Actually for HP/Stamina and MP/Magic the Pixel Remaster changes how it works, instead of just increasing your chance base on HP/MP at the beginning of the fight minus HP/MP at the end of the fight, it simply takes into account the total HP and MP you lost through the battle, without caring for healing this means for instance if you lost 100HP heal and then lost 100HP again the game will still count as if you've taken 200 damage, so in other words you don't need to finish the fight at low HP and can take as much damage as you want before ending the fight to pretty much guaranteed the HP/MP/Stamina/Magic growth. Worth also to talk about Agility and Evasion, Evasion being the most important stat in the game as it's actually more important for reducing damage than Defense or HP and it also determines who act first during the turn and the higher Evasion% is the higher the chance to get an increase in Agility (which increase base Evasion even further), hence why it's actually better especially at the early game to run with no armors on as most of the armors early reduce Evasion%, Evasion's Hit increase depending of how many time the character got targetted by an ennemy physical attack.
Yeah I noticed later on that even after healing back, I would get HP/Stamina up. That's a great quality of life enhancement. I talk about evasion and agility in a video I recorded earlier (and I think I mentioned it) called Perfect Evasion Guide. It's not as popular as this video.
@@omegamaelstrom1001 give everyone fire, hope you survive, if not restart from quick save until you do, once you have enough HP, just physical attack and level all your characters. My firion had level 16 swords before I got minwu
That's just the exploitation of the system. If you play normally then it makes sense. If you are struggling to beat stuff, you get stronger faster. If you are easily dunking on stuff you don't get rewarded with a ton of "experience" or stat boosts.
Yeah, evasion is the counter intuitive gimmick of this game. No reason not to keep a shield equipped at all times. It also boosts chance of agility gain. Only issue is massive magic penalty.
@omegamaelstrom1001 that's absolutely hilarious because where you first wake up if you return and talk to the tutorial wizards they tell you going unarmed and shield is a fools path.
I was expecting a mechanics guide, not a grinding walkthrough. At 10min in, this seems decent. I am not at all a fan of the self-flagellation strategy over gaining hp by playing normally. But if grinding is someones favourite part, this game will definitely allow it 😂 I'm not willing to watch more of this to learn whether you cover evasion and equipment weight, or maximizing the first action bonus over a whole playthrough rather than grinding magic monotonously in one area/battle. Beating yourself up is a trap that sucks the fun out of the game.
Please stop pushing this. Hitting yourself is NOT NECESSARY and Im tired of this old bandwagon of "yOu HaVe tO hIt YoUrSeLf tO gEt BeTtEr!" You DONT. People just saw that this was ONE way of doing it and started believing that you HAVE to do this.
@@cyberius100 I agree. I got a whole bunch of FF2 playthroughs showing how you can easily beat the game without grinding but the one video where I say hit yourself gets the views.
Thank you for this guide! I cannot wait to breeze right through the game effortlessly lol
Great video! Your explanations were very helpful.

"hey Firion don't beat yourself up over it"
"If only the enemies did a better job of kicking my ass"
I always use the captain inside finn to strengthen myself, blink and heal, attack until dead (physical or magical either will level quickly)
Also great drops like toad tome and golden armor, golden bow
Yup. If you're strong enough, Captain is really a very convenient spot for stat grinding.
@@omegamaelstrom1001 it's my first grind, I don't even do anything before going there, last time I did it before getting minwu
How do you beat the Captain that early in the game?

This game leveling systems are bizarre, if you want to become stronger you need to be as weak as posible

Shields are way OP in this game. They boost your evasion and can make your unarmed skills so strong you won't need regular weapons.

Stamina contributes to magic def%

@@omegamaelstrom1001 lol yeah
not good to have everything on everyone.
Why not?
@@omegamaelstrom1001 I mean you can but its a waste of time you should have single characters that are specialized.
@@ChickenPermissionOG Oh yeah I agree. But atleast stats don't go down in this version.
Just hit your self a few rounds you will have alot of hp.
Wear nothing, cast magic.
TLDW it sucks ass.
