"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
    “Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on TH-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on TH-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

I am pro-Palestine, and active with groups where I live, but not all villages nearby are illegal nor armed. Some of those attacked were not at all the crazy illegal settlers. @@norbertgeorge I am an activist for Palestinian rights, for over 20 years, but that does not change the facts that the Geneva Conventions apply in all circumstances, at all time, for all factions. I tell pro-Israelis that nothing can justify crimes of war, so why would I say otherwise towards resistance fighters?
Moreover, there has been no elections in 16 years and Hamas took over Gaza by force, in an open armed conflict against Fatah a few months after the elections (where, yes, they had won, but within a political system).
The Crimes of war and Crimes against Humanity (such as the blockade) committed by Israel does not justify retaliation with a Crime of war. I tell pro-Israeli the exact same thing: one crime does not justify the utter destruction of Gaza, collective punishment, etc. "They started it" is an irresponsible response used by pro-Israelis, so maybe we shouldn't answer the same thing: Israel certainly started the whole thing, no doubt, but freedom fighters have the same obligations in general as to extreme limits to warfare.

The Nuremberg Tribunal went out of its way to clarify:
      || “A city is bombed for tactical purposes… it inevitably happens that nonmilitary persons are killed. This is… an unavoidable corollary of battle action. The civilians are not individualized. The bomb falls, it is aimed at the railroad yards, houses along the tracks are hit and many of their occupants killed. But that is entirely different, both in fact and in law, from an armed force marching up to these same railroad tracks, entering those houses abutting thereon, dragging out the men, women and children and shooting them.”
Let alone going house-to-house far from any tracks or military objectives, point-blank shooting civilians in their beds or safe rooms, dropping grenades into bomb shelters, gang raping women to death - and after, burning alive captives - including babies, mutilating and beheading corpses - including of babies, and taking hostages - including babies.
Nor has Israel massacred anyone. For starters, the number of women and children killed was just reduced - almost in half, after the hamas ministry was forced to admit it didn't actually have data on 11,371 deaths.
UN Halves Its Estimate of Women and Children Killed in Gaza
      www.cfr.org/blog/un-halves-its-estimate-women-and-children-killed-gaza
Consider further that the terrorist to civilian casualty ratio is thus about 1 to 1. That's an order of magnitude (~10x) better than the average conflict (9 to 1), despite the unprecedented scenario of a terrorist group which spent $Billions over a decade to embed and entrench itself among, behind and under its own civilians.
Ninety Per Cent of War-Time Casualties Are Civilians
      press.un.org/en/2022/sc14904.doc.htm
While people love to mindlessly echo "indiscriminate killing" and "carpet bombing", when that happens (e.g. the Syrian Army in Hama in 1982), the civilian to rebel casualty ratio was about 100 to 1.

The more I watch this unfolding tragedy, the more I perceive the past traumas and errors of judgment committed in decades past.
It's like a family drama where an uncle abused and martialed a child and the parents reacted too late.
Since then, they've felt so guilty that they let the kid do anything he wants without boundaries, letting him become the exact image of the uncle who abused him. But the boy feels it's not right, and in his trauma, he goes further and further, breaking more and more laws, more and more blatantly, a little to to take back the power that his uncle demolished at the time, but above all to force his parents to take care of him for real, to realize that letting him do everything without rules or sanctions is not what he needs. And as in all family dramas, the story repeats itself, with the past victim becoming the aggressor. More and more, the kid takes it out on his little brother, or someone in his class. He repeats everything he's been through on a new victim, because no one really accompanies him in the pain of what he's been through. His trauma becomes an excuse to take it out on whoever he wants. And the parents repeat their mistakes by reacting too late, failing to protect the new victims properly.
Double victims this time, martiralized by their tormentor and accused of being evil and inhuman if they dare not accept their fate without flinching.
Thanks to all the Jews who know how to see the crimes of their government and who dare to brave the wrath of their own people by supporting the Palestinian cause.
Thank you to all the Muslims who know how to distinguish between Jews and genocide supporters and who dare to hold the hands of their Jewish brothers who support the Palestinians.
My thoughts go out to the Palestinians, whose suffering I can't even begin to imagine.
So many new traumas, added every hour to the mass of suffering that is already far too great.

You are making the mistake of reading history in reverse. Palestine 100 years ago was the foreign, Greek/Latin-European name for Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel. The Arabs, led by Sharrif Hussein, were consulted. They were given 99% of the Ottoman Mideast holdings, while Jews were allocated the 1% that was their historic homeland.
Let's go forward through history together:
1899: the Arab Mayor* of Jerusalem, from the al-Khalidi clan, wrote:
      || Who can challenge the rights of the Jews in Palestine? Good Lord, historically it is really your country.
      * Jews then constituted the majority of Jerusalem's population, but were barred from serving as mayors.
1905: First use of "Palestinian" as a noun, to describe Jews living in their homeland, "Palestine" but its Latin/European name.
      1911: Encyclopedia Britannica:
      || Palestine: conventionally used as a name for the territory which, in the Old Testament, is claimed as the inheritance of the pre-exilic Hebrews.
Note that there was no Palestine district, jurisdiction or demographic in the Ottoman Empire at that time.
1919: The Arab Congress in Jerusalem resolved:
      || We consider Palestine nothing but part of Arab Syria and it has never been separated from it at any stage. We are tied to it by national, religious, linguistic, moral, economic, and geographic bounds. ...[it] should be not separated from the Independent Arab Syrian Government
1926: Arabs petitioned the League of Nations to have Palestine (English) officially equated with Surial Janonbiah (Arabic, for southern Syria) - just as it was officially equated with Eretz Yisrael (Hebrew). The Mandatory rejected this. (But what would you be arguing today if it hadn't?!)
1937: Awni Abdul-Hadi testifies before the Peel Commission:
      || There is no such country as Palestine. 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented. ...Palestine is alien to us.
1946: Dr. Philip Hitti (the Ivy League professor who founded the field of Arab Studies), testified before the Anglo-American Committee:
      || There is no such thing as Palestine in history. Absolutely not.
1956: Ahmed Shukairy, who a decade later founded and was the first Chairman of the PLO, testified before the UN Security Council:
      || It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria.
1977: Zuheir Mohsen, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, told a Dutch newspaper:
      || The Palestinian people does not exist … there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese. ...We are all part of one people, the Arab nation. ...Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons. ...Once we have acquired all our rights in all of Palestine, we must not delay for a moment the reunification of Jordan and Palestine.

Herodotus was the one who translated Philistinia into Palestine in 5th century BCE. With Egypt's power waning both Israeli tribes and Philistines received their independence around 1200 BCE. Philistines continued their Aegean traditions by ruling through a union of five city-states. Israelites created their own kingdom around 1047 BCE. United Israeli kingdom broke up into two around 940 BCE. All three waged war against each other and other Canaanite polities. All were eventually wiped out by Neo-Assyria and Neo-Babylonia.

Most of the occupants of the Kibbutzim are military, active or reservists as all Israeli Jews must enlist in the military for 2 years of training by Israeli law and when and if they leave the military they are considered to be reservists. Ask Israel how many Palestinian hostages they presently hold in Israeli jails with no charges for indefinite periods of time. Even if every one of those I$r@eli were reservists, it still constitutes a war crime. A combatant is only a soldier that poses a direct threat. If a soldier puts down his weapon, he is no longer considered a combatant in war crime law and must not be kil!3d. Also, a soldier that is wounded can not be attacked. Obviously, these 2 rules have been broken many times in history, but that is the law under the geneva convention. So even if all those people ki!l3d were military its still unlawful to attack them while unarmed. So yes, H@m@s did commit war crimes too. But that pales in comparison to what happened since.

Actually, the Israeli citizens who live in the so-called Gaza envelope are mostly either ex IDF members or active IDF soldiers. These Israeli settlements were built primarily as part of the Israeli measures to hem in, and besiege the people of Gaza. So the inhabitants of the so-called Gaza envelope are in fact serving a military purpose by living there, hence they can be treated as combatants.

Dear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau & Members of Parliament,
Please accept our email into the Official Record. As constituents in the Toronto-Danforth riding, we are also "horrified" and devastated by what happened in Rafah on Sunday night - an Israeli airstrike triggered a fire in a tent camp in the southern Gaza city that killed 45 Gazans and injured 250 people - many were severely burned. Despite the ICJ ruling on Friday that the offensive must stop, Israel is blatantly ignoring international law with horrifying consequences.
It is unacceptable for Canada to remain on the sidelines while Israel carries out daily massacres of Gaza's civilians. We are deeply concerned about the lack of action on an arms embargo against Israel, despite a motion that passed with a majority in the House of Commons in March, 2024. As Canadians, we condemn our government’s complicity in the atrocities the Israeli state is committing against innocent Palestinians. As our Liberal Member of Parliament, we are calling on you and your government to revoke all military export permits and impose a two-way arms embargo on Israel immediately.
We also ask that Canada agree to execute eventual arrest warrants should Prime Minister Netanyahu or Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant ever visit North America. If Canada respects the independence” of the ICC, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a legal obligation to co-operate fully with ICC investigations and prosecutions in accordance with the Rome Statute, which is the basis of the ICC’s authority. (The ICC has made it clear member states like Canada, do not have discretion to “choose to co-operate with the Court … on the ground of a disagreement with the Court’s interpretation and application of the Statute.”)
How many more massacres in Gaza will the Liberal government tolerate before it acts on the ICC and ICJ's orders to arrest Netanyahu & Gallant and stop this genocide, as the body count soars to 36,000 dead Palestinians. It is absolutely shameful that Canada is not leading by example, as it did when defending the sovereignty of Ukrainians from Russian military aggression. There cannot be two extremes to justice - hiding behind the criminality of Israeli apartheid only implicates Canada further in those crimes.Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter and we await your response.
    Sincerely, Davis & Rhonda Costas-Mirza

He's drawing violent, bloody pictures of people being killed, and when he gets in trouble for looking for that and looking at ammo online at school, his mother says, "Ha ha--I'm not mad at you. You just need to learn how not to get caught" (slight paraphrase)--just before he goes on a shooting rampage with the gun his parents gave him.
