This is an absolutely great hack. I did it this weekend and it worked great. The one piece of advice I would add is using sandpaper to shave off maybe a 1/16 of an inch around the rubber cap before trying to squeeze it into the collar. It makes it much easier and still fits in very tight. There is also what appears to be a cable tie that keeps the silver collar in place, make sure it's not sticking out when trying to push the rubber cap down or it will make it nearly impossible. Also while the Skunk2 knob you installed is cool, they cost like $50+. I bought a knockoff that looks very similar for like $9 on eBay. The old factory installed piece of crap knob was completely shredded to the point where the center cap wouldn't even stay in so I really needed a replacement. Sometimes cheaping out pays off. For the commenter who couldn't get the old knob off, just firmly grab the silver ring and pull down. I didn't need to use a screwdriver as other suggested but if it doesn't come off my way try the screwdriver. Once the collar is down I unscrewed the old knob by turning it counter-clockwise with channel lock pliers, very simple. Thanks again for the video, I never would have come up with this on my own.
Awesome video, this worked perfectly with my type R shift knob, no gaps and feels very secure without having to modify or change the original shift boot. I wish i could add a picture here. Thanks again man! 👍🏻
Thank you, had to shave down the bypass cap to get it to fit right on my 2014 v6 coupe, but what a difference with my old school (1960s) cue ball style knob.
Hey to get it off you pull the boot down and get a flat head screwdriver and there will be a little hole you can put the flat head in then you pull down and unscrew the knob
Gerson Rivera You pull the silver portion down some and then need a flat head screw driver to push in the tab and then push down as you push in. Look at the end of the video so you can see the knob removed and see the tabs..

bro, i wanted to see how you removed the old knob. woulda been really helpful if you showed it at the beginning.
Right? Only reason I'm here. Install is pointless without removal

No it does not. Stupid video, literally skipped the step of removing the OEM knob
thank you just bought my shift knob and don't know what to do..now I know...thank u ..
life saver. I had some good ideas on how to keep install clean. yours is the best. thanks.
you sir, are a hero
Great video thanks for your efforts!
Good looking, syoee clutch, I hate how mine slides after the aftermarket
take a screw driver or trim tool from the end of the knob where the silver plastic ring is. pry between them and the ring will slide down
I can't seem to get the caps to go down. How did u do it?
How do you get the original one off? When I try to unscrew it the whole boot spins as well
What did you do with your old shift knob? I have an 8th gen and my dog tore up my shifter :/
do u know how to take off the gear boot off ?
good fit thanks
How do you take off the original shift knob,? Idk how to unhook the clips
