    XEFE so I heard is not even broadcasting on virtual channel 2.1; they had to move to 17.1 to reserve virtual channel 2.1 for XEW -TV and all its repeaters in Mexico.

    About Mexican stations:
    XHY-TV: At that time, a Gala TV affiliate, branded Gala TV Mérida. Now, XHY-TDT, it is an independent station branded SIPSE Televisión. Gala TV, now NU9VE, is available on XHMEN-TDT second subchannel.
    XEFE-TV: Now XEFE-TDT on channel 17, is an independent station that used to be affiliated with Televisa, mostly with channel 5. Today, channel 5 is available full-time on XHBR-TDT second subchannel.
    XHVIZ-TV: Indeed, a Las Estrellas network station. As a digital station (XHVIZ-TDT), it also carries NU9VE on the second subchannel nowadays. Those hourly automated call-sign displays are now mandatory for every station in Mexico.
    XHGV-TV/TDT is a "public" station owned by the State of Veracruz. They use the branding TV MAS, a statewide network.

    I have wondered, during an e-skip event does it even matter what direction the antenna is pointed at? Say I am picking up FM stations from New Mexico in Atlanta, would it help any whatsoever to aim the antenna to the W-SW or does it even matter at all?

    • @christopherdunne7848
      @christopherdunne7848 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As I am the one who originally recorded these, the answer is a resounding "yes". Indeed it's better when aimed at the station.

    • @toddstewart9070
      @toddstewart9070 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The reason I asked was because a few years ago I was able to get west Texas stations in crystal clear, even though my large outdoor Radio Shack FM antenna was pointed to NW. There was a very strong opening that day here in North Atlanta area. Once I recognized where the stations were coming from, I immediately ran outside and aimed the antenna to the W-SW and was able to get the stations in all day long, with occasional fade outs to other stations within 500 mile radius of there. I recorded the entire several hour event directly to mp3 through my computer's sound card via my good old 80s Pioneer receiver which has a really sensitive tuner. That was the last time I have gotten anything of that magnitude here, signals from west Texas/NM/OK/Mexico were just booming all day long, even taking over the local stations.

    • @christopherdunne7848
      @christopherdunne7848 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that XEFE-TV "cherry picks" from any and all Televisa networks. This was a common practice even in USA in the early days of TV, when many markets had two or less TV network affiliates.

    • @JASFMXL
      @JASFMXL 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct. Nuevo Laredo is an odd case because almost all cities have channels for every Televisa Network.

    • @OM19_MO79
      @OM19_MO79 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, it wasn't an odd case. Televisa doesn't have stations for each of their networks in every corner of the country. Certain markets had only one or two Televisa-owned stations and independent stations would become part or full-time affiliates of networks without a proper station. This, however, is being phased out due to digital sub channels, Televisa is multiplexing their programming so networks can have a wider coverage using their own stations. Just this year, a station in Chihuahua and another in Chiapas lost their NU9VE and 5 affiliations, respectively. This is due to how Televisa acquired their stations and how restricted they are to get new ones nowadays.
      TV Azteca, on the other hand, got their stations from the government that built a huge infrastructure of two networks over several years that nearly covered the whole country as a plan to get a state-owned commercial television (which crumbled and got auctioned in 1993 to its current owners). That's why they have the biggest coverage for both their networks nationwide without too much use of subchannels.
      Imagen got the bulk license of about 120 stations to ensure the creation of a new privately-owned nationwide network, this, however, didn't include an existing infrastructure, so now they are struggling to build it.
      Another network was also auctioned along Imagen with the same number of stations, but the bidder refused to pay the license and had to pay a fine and lost the license. Some of those "lost" stations were auctioned individually to several bidders in 2017.

      However…..since 2021 or so, a low power digital TV station in downtown Miami uses the 66-72 MHz frequency. It maps on screen as “channel 3”-WMDF-LD.

      These videos are from my collection, and Ryan G had good equipment to transfer. Click on my name, and there are one or two “Canal 2” videos that are more recent. One of them (“¡Sonría!”) was actually recorded while I was away from home (I was at my church on a Sunday morning).

      @@christopherdunne7848 Sorry Chris, couldn't find the video. And the joke was my personal opinion on the quality of YSWR-TV.
