I'm a US Navy veteran from '78-'83, VAQ-138, VT-22 Powerplants mech. 3 Med, Med/IO deployments aboard JFK and IKE. It's really great to see the cooperative exercises with all these different countries and NATO allies. We did a bunch of this stuff in the Med back in the day, but never to this big a scale. I'm happy to see our young sailors and officers engaged in this sort of practice in these days of cutbacks. The global threats have seemed to gotten bigger since the Russians sort of left the scene with all that is going on and the recent huge increase in the Chinese Naval presence. We need to be ready.

There's different kinds of formations. The one you're probably thinking of is a CSG (Carrier Strike Group), where the center point would be the Carrier. I don't think there's really a known formation of this size. Also, the disparity of ships would make it weird since every year is different!
The main attack method these days is missiles, so I don't think it's a problem to be in the front. The number of torpedoes has also decreased considerably.
Need to get the Wisconsin up and running again if for nothing else than to put on a show. Out of all the iowas, it's in the best shape. Least hours on the engines and least wear on the big guns.
This has nothing to do with the Middle East. It is a military exercise carried out by the United States by gathering dozens of countries and using China as an imaginary enemy. We have to admit that the United States is in decline today, and it can still win over so many countries, and some countries are still convinced. Will America dare to start this war? There is no hope of a war, except nuclear war. Even a nuclear war, without the industrial system and the ability to rebuild, would ultimately be worse off, and would be forever guarded by the garrison of a victorious country, even worse than today's Japan. Am I scared? No. The nation that will witness history, wage war, the chance to wander for 2000 years is no longer there, you know who, can not say right?
This is so important. We need to show off how big and strong our ships are to justify why we don't take care of our own people's basic needs in America
