This might be super cheesy, but the soft background vocals and solo from 5:14 and on make me so emotional. It’s like a tribute to the Whitechapel victims
Not cheesy imo. That focused melody and guitar tone can absolutely bring me to tears. Also the lyrics are pretty devastating too. For as popular as they are, they're still terribly underrated.
This was the most fitting end to the record. Around the middle of the 5 minute mark, Imperium starts playing. The old, corrupt empire has fallen, and we are again at the start of the record where a new one (hopefully better) is rising. This also fits perfectly with Tobias's view for the future, which is optimistic, as he has stated in a lot of interviews. An amazingly well-done song, and album by him.
Musically, Styx did the same thing on the album Paradise Theatre. The album opens with A.D. 1928 and the theme, then the second to last song, Half-Penny Two-Penny, segues into the closer, A.D. 1958 and the theme. Good stuff.
@@swissmed4606 Well it is more upbeat than the starting Imperium, so to me it sparks a positive vibe. But of course that could be the case as well. I just thought about it together with some stuff Tobias had said in interviews about having a positive outlook of the future.
It's absolutely magnificent, but without hesitation I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. We need to reserve the term 'masterpiece' for those few in a million among all artists. Although they did well enough that some ought to call it that, so that's a win.
This song is so beautiful...I've been a fan of Ghost for about 3 years now, went to my first ritual a week ago. I'll never stop being in awe of this band, immediately after the ritual I wanted to go to another, and another..Not only are they talented musicians, but incredible performers and above all, a FAMILY. It's clear now that they've grown to have a beautiful bond with each other, and I couldn't be prouder of Tobias and all that he has done. They really outdid themselves with Impera, can't wait for many more years.
Have you seen them play miasma live? It is so beautiful looking and sounding, still today i can't put into words the feeling o got. This band is on another level.
This might be the best saddest song. It was a graceful good bye to someone who realized their time had come. They know they're going to die or they're society is crumbling and a hoard is coming over the wall. Great song, goosebumps every time.

Thank you Ghost. You don't just sing random rhyming lyrics, but lyrics with meaning, stories and history. I love pulling apart your songs with my man and the discussions it leads us to have. Another awesome song!
Think of this for a second - English is Tobias Forge's second language, and he still writes better lyrics then so many people who grew up speaking it... The guy's damn good.
Tobias Forge is brilliant. A true master of sound. Very rarely can someone rend my heart apart with beauty in its music with almost every single track.
I really feel like the people who don't like the new album are so one dimensional, and I feel sorry for them that they can't let songs like this one touch their soul. Tobias is a genius, how the lyrics tie into the actual music and they speak to each other in a way very few bands can accomplish. I mean the guy puts songs on his album with NO words that are pure magic. If you can't see that, feel that, and respect that, I really feel bad for you. As much shit as our world has been through the last few years, I gladly accept this gift from Tobias. It's beautiful. Just beautiful.
This song is fire so thats where we stand there. In total agreement. Besides this song and call me little sunshine this album is trash. So how does a shitty album make me one dimensional? You know when the best time to become a ghost fan was. And its not just cause its where i started but actually makes the most overall sense. Melioria more specifically cirice. That was when you wanted to be a fan at. Why some may ask. Its right where you love the satanic awesomeness but arent stuck on it having to be strictly satan all the time. Prequelle is by far the best put together album therefore making it the best album period. Even though you have multiple huge huge songs that by themselves are the best song compared to any single on prequelle. You cant beat how well prequelle was done in every aspect. This album i almost cried because its that terrible but this song alone is enough to make the entire album worth the money but then its backed with call me little sunshine. Honestly this album shoulda been a 2 song wait 3 song lp and call it a day. So no you are one dimensional thinking everyone who hates the album is one sided. No dude its cause this album is fucking terrible and its sad that only two songs are sry 3 songs title track included are worth a damn. We waited like what like 4 fucking years for bullshit. And tobias owes each and every fan a fucking blow job from his own mouth to right this injustice. Its even worse given the fact he took bullshit and made his bull shit awesome by taking such an awesome song like this and the other two songs and mashing it into an album. Tobias owes this song a fucking blowjob for doing this to it.

I also wasn't a fan the first time I heard it, I'd been listening to a lot of thrash metal the last few months, so I think my brains had expectations were skewed by thinking Imperium was an intro and It just wasn't what my brain was expecting when Kaisarion started playing. I had to put the album away and revisit a few days on a cleaner and more open mind. And yeah, when got back to it it just sorta popped with how brilliant every track is.
I love it when an album makes it difficult to pick a favourite song... and Impera makes it exceptionally difficult as even the "weaker" tracks are not weak by any standard, just that others are a bit more inspired than the rest. Pure brilliance. The best album I've listened to in many, many years. No amount of praise is too big for this...
One night when I was 18 I was walking in my hometown in Florida at 2 a.m. I walked into a cemetery and in the back was a decent size duck pond. It was a full moon night. The moons ambient light was one of the most beautiful sights in my entire life. To see the moons reflection off the duck pond and the illuminations of the gravestones. The sky was the perfect dark velvet with many stars blending the scene. This song reminds my of that scene and how beautiful Gothic nature can be. So beautiful I stayed for 2 hours. I couldn't leave. As such wonderful things in life nothing last forever!
Been a fan of Ghost since 2016. They always have amazing music! The guitars, keyboards, harmonizing vocals, they are truly talented. I love that they have roots in old school rock and have definitely carried out their own vision. Thank you Tobias!!
Considering Jack the Ripper spoke with a heavy Yiddish accent, I don't find that realistic from that point of view. But sure, as some sort of super villain as he is portrayed, I guess it works with a noir mood and vivid imagination.
Unlikely, as the women he targeted would not have gone with a "foreigner," especially not one they identified as Jewish. He had an upperclass "toff" accent, or affected one.

We're here in the after of a murderous crafter
The past is spun like a yarn and mangled
With flesh and blood and bones, I wonder
Did no one hear the distant thunder
The autumnal reaper, the stains of this creeper
Will last, the shine and the sham entangled
Like salting earth with tears of Jesus
He sliced and diced our dreams to pieces
For the dreams that you dreamt
Can become just as real
As the blood that was shed
With the slash of his steel
Now the street walking dead
Was quite a scene, wasn't it?
For the lost and mislead
Were promised seats by the pit
We will break away together
I'll be the shadow
You'll be the light
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night
We're leaving this city
So this is farewell
Goodbye, Seven Sisters
And Saint Jezebel
The moon in the gutter
Has a story to tell
One day he will come back
From the bowels of hell
He appeared to ascend
So we all stood there in awe
Now we have to pretend
We didn't see what we saw
When the curtain unveiled
To the sound of applause
That the king that we hailed
Was the Wizard of Oz
We will break away together
I'll be the shadow
You'll be the light
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night

Been there since 2012... This is a really good song... Period.

We're here in the after
Of a murderous crafter
The past is spun like a yarn and mangled
With flesh and blood and bones, I wonder
Did no one hear the distant thunder?
The autumnal reaper
The stains of this creeper
Will last, the shine and the sham entangled
Like salting earth with tears of Jesus
He sliced and diced our dreams to pieces
For the dreams that you dread
Can become just as real
As the blood that was shed
With the slash of his steel
Now the street walking dead
Was quite a scene, wasn't it?
For the lost and mislead
Were promised seats by the pit
We will break away together
I'll be the shadow
You'll be the light
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night
We're leaving this city
So this is farewell
Good bye seven sisters
And Saint Jezebel
The moon in the gutter
Has a story to tell
One day he will come back
From the bowels of hell
He appeared to ascend
So we all stood there in awe
Now we have to pretend
We didn't see what we saw
When the curtain unveiled
To the sound of applause
That the king that we hailed
Was the Wizard of Oz
We will break away together
I'll be the shadow
You'll be the light
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night

Basically the whole song is about the book of revelation told from the side of the devil.
@@lostless00 I thought it was also about Jack the Ripper, as he left his victims by the Spitalfields in London. I think he merged some themes. What a masterpiece

BEST Band of the 21st century...PERIOD!
I've been saying that for a long time
If it wasn't for my daughters I would have never found this awesome band. I raised my daughters right
Damn right you did
May God bless you and your family.
same
I helped my mom find this band too! She said their musics actually pretty good and she said my dad would be so proud😭
My eldest daughter brought me here too.
Wonderful!
This might be super cheesy, but the soft background vocals and solo from 5:14 and on make me so emotional. It’s like a tribute to the Whitechapel victims
The ending solo with the tone change, Tobias harmony and guitar riffs make me weirdly nostalgic for the entire human race. Now who's super cheesy 👻
Not cheesy imo. That focused melody and guitar tone can absolutely bring me to tears. Also the lyrics are pretty devastating too. For as popular as they are, they're still terribly underrated.
Cheesy need not always be "cheesy", a good pop-hook done right has tremendous emotional effect, that's just brilliant songwriting...that's the point
Why do people act like being cheesy is a bad thing ?
@@TheFuryLz Probably because it implies a negative relationship with authenticity, and is often irritating in certain context.
An amazingly well-done song, and album by him.
and considering current events...
I take it way more cynical in that as the old empire falls the new one begins and starts the same cycle all over again
Musically, Styx did the same thing on the album Paradise Theatre. The album opens with A.D. 1928 and the theme, then the second to last song, Half-Penny Two-Penny, segues into the closer, A.D. 1958 and the theme. Good stuff.
@@swissmed4606 yes exctly. Heard of the Fall of Empires artworks by Thomas Cole? Pretty cool and suits the album
@@swissmed4606 Well it is more upbeat than the starting Imperium, so to me it sparks a positive vibe. But of course that could be the case as well. I just thought about it together with some stuff Tobias had said in interviews about having a positive outlook of the future.

It's like a yarn untangled.... I wonder did noone hear the DISTANT THUNDER!!!! It's Tobias!
It's absolutely magnificent, but without hesitation I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. We need to reserve the term 'masterpiece' for those few in a million among all artists. Although they did well enough that some ought to call it that, so that's a win.
2:07 The BEST Solo Ever Written.
Now that's the kind of Ghost comment I love
Have you seen them play miasma live? It is so beautiful looking and sounding, still today i can't put into words the feeling o got. This band is on another level.
What an absolute MASTERPIECE.
This might be the best saddest song. It was a graceful good bye to someone who realized their time had come. They know they're going to die or they're society is crumbling and a hoard is coming over the wall. Great song, goosebumps every time.
I saw/ heard this song on Rite Here Rite Now movie and my mind and heart exploded. I wish I could see this film once again.
comes out on dvd/blu ray early december
I wouldn't complain if every album ended on a 7-minute epic track like this.
This album has shook me to the core. Unbelievable. So many emotions. Masterpiece.
There's a tenderness in the midst of a great cynicism to Ghost's best pieces. This one especially.
I feel like it’s Tobias’s way of saying, “Hey, it’s pretty shitty right now, but we’re in this together.”
Go to 4:50, turn up all the way, close your eyes and just FEEL the music. It bring me to tears every single time, it is just pure bliss❤ Thank you Tobias
Yes it is. They played this live on the last tour cycle. We had been out there for several hours and when the ghoullettes started singing the end we all were in a form of ecstasy, truly religion without guilt.

@@nola281 Yup. I've met papa ;)
the line "the moon in the gutter; has a story to tell" hits so hard!
Its the rock ballad era of music LOVE IT
I really feel like the people who don't like the new album are so one dimensional, and I feel sorry for them that they can't let songs like this one touch their soul.

Still can't put into words the feeling i get. The more albums they put out, the more proud i am to be a ghost fan 🤘🤘
Why can’t I stop listening to this song over and over again? I’ve been a casual Ghost fan over the years, but after finally giving this album a listen I am absolutely won over. What a great rock record. This track is easily the best on the album, it’s just dreamy and rich, and has a quality to it that I can’t quite describe. There are no words to describe all what this song makes me feel, a mix of emotions, I would like they never end, so I listen to it over and over. Thank you Ghost for taking me out of this horrible world.
Kudos for the people who saw the brilliance of this album on their first listen. I hated it at first, but after my second time I fell in love with it. They say that albums that grow on you are the best, and here I am to confirm. A gorgeous masterpiece, absolutely wounderful. This album has been on loop for me for the past three days and it will be for weeks to come. Thank you Tobias for yet another banger of an album.
It's always the same with Ghost. First listen you're like, 'meh, not bad'. Then it clicks and you can't stop listening to it.
And yeah, when got back to it it just sorta popped with how brilliant every track is.
this is one of the greatest songs i've ever heard. kind of has a november rain type of feel to it.
Oh shit I've never even thought about November Rain but you're 💯 right!!!
Yes agreed.......but this song technically blows November Rain to smithereens💥
When Imperium comes back in for the outro, I shed a tear or two. It is a piece of art.
2:06 that guitar solo with keyboards and drums put together makes an unbelievable piece of music. During listening of this part i ascended to heaven.
5:13 This final solo is soooo good

nah bruh, it is the best song on the album.
I get goosebumps when he sings "Was quite a scene, wasn't it?". It's almost as if a proud Jack the Ripper is channeling Tobias voice at that moment.
I thought the exact same thing!!!! Wild.
Reverse?
Considering Jack the Ripper spoke with a heavy Yiddish accent, I don't find that realistic from that point of view. But sure, as some sort of super villain as he is portrayed, I guess it works with a noir mood and vivid imagination.
@@bulbasaurbrutal5137how do we know he had a Yiddish accent? Did he write some slang or? (he sent letters right or were those fake?)
Unlikely, as the women he targeted would not have gone with a "foreigner," especially not one they identified as Jewish. He had an upperclass "toff" accent, or affected one.
