This is Hysteria for the 2020's. Every song a potential hit, an album you have to hear front-to-back. Killer guitars in the extended outro, this was absolutely amazing live.
Just imagine thousands of Ghouls and Ghoulettes singing in unison, *"SEARCHLIGHTS! LOOKING FOR THE WATCHER IN THE SKY!"* This song is meant to be sung live. Hands down, the best song from Impera. Thank you for another modern classic, Tobias Forge and co.

Usually new Ghost songs are a "grower". I loved this with the first listen.
HAH I still think about him doing that bit daily and giggle over it.
I'm really not sure about this album. Maybe it will grow on me but it seems too poppy or butt rock and not the good butt guilty pleasure butt rock.
So far none of the songs from the album appeal to me... I'll hold off buying it, but I'm afraid Ghost shifterd too much from "what I like" into "what sells to a broader audience".

Despite the gloomy imagenery, the satanic lyrics, the sinister costumes, Ghost actually music is so uplifitng and happy, makes more contemporary stuff sound depressing. Bad mood is gone away and I want to get drunk in a bar singing this chorus.
When asked Tobias has said that he wants the shows / music to be a celebration more than what the usual black / death / metal bands do...
@@GaryGoRound-to7ld I've had the pleasure of seeing them twice now live. The whole show is a massive party. Square Hammer as a closer leaves no one sitting down. Everyone is up and dancing. Awesome energy in the crowd.
Ghost concerts are like a party and Tobias is known for comparing the shows to an orgy, which is why the energy for the music is high. I went to my first ghost ritual last month and it was incredible energy!

Honestly when the track listing was revealed a few months ago I felt like this would be the best song on the album, and it sounds pretty much exactly like what I thought it would. I assumed it would be essentially Ghosts take on Wheel in the Sky by Journey, but heavier. Very Impressed with this one

This entire album is a jaw dropping masterpiece. Guitars, drums, vocals, backup vocals, etc etc etc. Choir. All on point and amazing

The bassist is killin' it on this one !! No "Metallica/"Jason Newsted Syndrome" with this band!! You get to HEAR the bass line, and it KICKS !!
I love all aspects of Ghost but the bass has always been my favorite part, especially on the Infestissumam album (the album that introduced me to them in 2013.) That tone is so good!
Agreed. They did get a great tone on the bass. Overdriven and heavy AF. Although I wish it was more present in the Twenties song. To me, the lack of bass in that tune makes kind of thin sounding.

You know that feeling when you listen to an iconic classic album for the first time? This gives me that same feeling and that’s probably the best compliment I could possibly give an album.
First album is GREAT! When they released the single Year Zero I thought "they cannot match this". Not only did they "match this" but they fucking obliterated it with Square Hammer. I thought "theyll never match this!" Not only did they match this but they fuckin blew it up with Rats and I nearly died. Then they do 7 Inches and i fully die. Resurrecting me is this masterpiece and I dont know what to expect.

This is great. This is a legit 80’s rocker.
So Tobias and his Ghouls main goal is to revive the 80's Rock Metal soul. And its coolest attempt for that genre in this decade. This album is real masterpiece.
Guitar dive bombs, tapping, harmonies...Love that 80's heavy metal vibe.
This should be all rock, or more than just one group nowadays, And I STILL don't hear this on the radio, but I know they have a few times.
Lots of nods to Van Halen and Def Leppard on the album I feel, and the choruses are blatantly singable and designed for arena rockers. Did not disappoint in concert

After the first 2 beautifully crafted and strange albums, they reached the top with “Meliora”. “Prequelle” wasn’t the album i felt it could have been with all the drama with ex members at the time probably contributing to that. BUT this, here my friends; is Ghost reaching for the highest of the high, and actually getting there.

@@zemocon2868 I can appreciate that people could be of that opinion. It's just as valid as mine. Just for conversations sake, I think that "Meliora" was the first time Tobias's vision of the perfectly crafted Ghost album was as close to being realised as he originally envisioned. "Prequelle" I felt, while brilliant in parts (and I actually enjoy it more in hindsight now that "Impera" is out) I feel was a clouded and affected work. IMO it didn't have the same sense of being captured and taken to another realm, or on a journey that "Meliora" and now, "Impera" has. "Prequelle's" highs were as high, but not as often. The twists and turns were there, but less surprising/more predictable. The album is really good, I can enjoy it now, where I couldn't before for awhile. It felt like one big missed opportunity. Thats where what was going on around the band at the time IMO creeped in and affected the work it became, a flawed masterpiece. I find "Impera", to me, the album"Prequelle" could of been under a different set of circumstances. "Impera" captures everything that was great about "Meliora", expands upon it musically and conceptually, then exceeds expectations in every way. I have followed Ghost from the beginning and will until the end, regardless of where it goes. Bands like this are rare and I'm on for the ride for all the highs and lows.

Tobias mentioned he was aiming for that killer Def Leppard production and songwriting and I can actually hear that now, not aping them but shooting for Hysteria level production and he pretty much nails it, even Joe Elliot said he has this album on regular rotation now, that's gotta feel pretty good for them to hear that.

This is a start to finish masterfully helmed album. The excellent songwriting paired with this elevated musicianship is exactly what Ghost needed. The choice of hiring Fredrik Åkkeson from Opeth was brilliant. I listened to the whole thing on viny last night. I'm just blown away. Tobias is really recapturing the magic of 80's metal/rock with a fresh take. All the best elements of their sound from previous records have been dialed up to 11. Ghost has a whole is like a homage to this lost era of rock/metal, and with their incredibly unique sound it's really cementing them as a worthy successor like no other band in recent years. Excellent work Tobias! My faith in Ghost has been restored since the fallout after Meliora. Prequelle doesn't come close to topping that album, but this album is up there.

An instant classic. This new album is epic in every. TF is proving to be THE prolific musician of modern times. Different genre of course, but almost reminds me of the run the Prince was on from 82-88. Could literally do no wrong.
