      I dunno man, they align rather well with Candlemass-style doom.
      They're also pretty close to the British band Hell, and Diamond Head.
      It doesn't make them bad, but they're not Primus or Mr. Bungle.

      @youknowthatthefogishere 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@JeanMarceaux Tobias takes a lot of inspiration from various bands - I believe Candlemass is one of them. If you take their entire discography though, there is no one style to describe everything. Each song has its own unique style. Some of the styles contrast brilliantly - it’s a work of art. You have songs like Helvetesfonster, Life Eternal and He Is, then there’s things like Rats, From the Pinnacle to the Pit and Griftwood. I don’t know about you but it’s awesome to see how effortlessly he can make these things work so well together.
      This is merely my opinion however. Everyone has their own opinions and I respect it. I do agree with you, there are aspects to the band that resemble other bands. There is also inspiration from bands such as Queen and ABBA I believe - hell, they even did an ABBA cover.
      It is up to the listeners to interpret how they feel towards the music. Don’t let what I’ve said make you feel like I’m trying to taint your opinion. I’m just letting you know my perspective on this.
      Have a good day/night! :)

      In anyway, it's not particularly emotionally heavy on the lyrical or melodic aspect, it instrumentally grooves and sounds great, it's mixed incredibly well, in that respect it's "heavy".
      I still really enjoy this band, heavy doesn't define quality of music for me, there are many bands that are "heavy" that I don't especially like.

      I got into metal listening to Metallica and the mentor who got me into it passed in 2010 as Ghost came out. Around that time I got the discography and fell in love with it. I can pick gems and see something deeper in the lyrics or instrumental work in *all* of their shit. Then I found Avenged Sevenfold (which came up fronting for and touring with Metallica) and repeat. Now I've found Ghost. I love their Prequelle album, the one with Copia because it's very 80s-esque. I grew up listening to hair metal, classic rock. So naturally, that one and Seven Inches of Satanic Panic are my favorite. I always end up coming back to them! And I know heavy when I want heavy. Sometimes to be heavy, you don't need to be cookie monster behind the mic and spam the same 2 chords. What truly makes something heavy is composition. Sophistication, or sometimes just a lyric that is open to interpretation. So there's a song, an album, a band for every mood and thought, feeling you can possibly have.

      @t r If you had to ask that question you need to go back to why do you listen to it in the first place. It's not about how you sound or how violent you scream. That's why I'm talking about their concept in particular. The ideology behind an alternate/reverse church or religionism, is dark and mysterious, and twisted, and metal likes to keep it that way. Talking about how Emeritus gets the attention of people just like how the Pope does the same thing but vice versa. Music wise they use the same elements the church uses too

    • @DEE-jk3rb
      @DEE-jk3rb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

If u got a problem with Ghost just dont listen bro its that easy.

      Ironically, this song is the reference of the main antagonist's stand in one of my Jojo's tabletop rpg, and the man's state of mind is not very clear (he claims to be the antichrist yet it is unclear if he has a split personality like Diavolo, if he truly believed to do good when we first saw him as an ally, if he played with everyone all along, if he got possessed .....) so seeing someone with a Jojo picture under that song evokes a lot to me, especially when that song relates to someone who got killed by Diavolo (lots in common between the two characters on top of the fact that one is called Devil and the other thinks he is the son of the Devil, but they are still distinct)

    One of my best friends died a few years ago, and this was his favorite ghost song. I remember thinking at the time that this music was too demonic and so I didn't like it, and it was the song that also he thought out of all the songs I would like it the best, that I would love this band. And now all these years later, I rediscovered them, and......he was right, I love this band now. And this is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

I think of Ghost as being more influenced by 70s bands (Blue Oyster Cult seems to be the popular point of reference) with a bit of a modern update, but I can see hear a little Mercyful Fate in some of their songs, and that band started and peaked in the 80s.

    I feel your presence amongst us
    You cannot hide in the darkness
    Can you hear the rumble?
    Can you hear the rumble that's calling?
    I know your soul is not tainted
    Even though you've been told so
    Can you hear the rumble?
    Can you hear the rumble that's calling?
    I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart
    I can see through the scars inside you
    A candle casting a faint glow
    You and I see eye to eye
    Can you hear the thunder?
    How can you hear the thunder that's breaking?
    Now there is nothing between us
    From now our rood is eternal
    Can't you see that you're lost?
    Can't you see that you're lost without me?
    I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart
    I can see through the scars inside you

    Lyrically speaking, this reminds me a lot of N.I.B. by Black Sabbath: Both are disguised as love songs, but when reading between the lines, it seems like they're about a poor soul being tempted by someone, with Sabbath talking about being persuaded by the devil, with Ghost, some sort of pope. In a way, the songs are almost like the polar opposites of one story.

    I'm a ghost fan, pretty diehard. I've loved them for two years. I've recently found a love for this song and have been playing it all week. Tonight I was sitting in my room with the lights off (closet light was on) and I was listening to this song. I have a habit of closing my eyes and reaching my arm + hand out and mouthing to "don't you know that your lost... don't you know that your lost, without me". Well, tonight I did that again as I always do and my vision when black, heart sank and everything went cold. And I felt something touch my arm. If you've ever had sleep paralysis, that's pretty much what it felt like. (When I say my vision went black, my eyes were closed but there was a small amount of light reflecting into my eyes witch made it look brighter, and it suddenly went away) I immediately ripped off my headphones and started gasping for air. 10/10 would do it again. Thank you Ghost

      That's not really true because Black Sabbath mostly wrote about injustices in humanity from a dark human perspective, and Ghost specifically comments on injustices in humanity from Satanic perspectives, with Satanic imagery, using the same religious stories that are seen in the Bible and in the Satanic bible. They are specifically using Satanism as a window, so you could say they are Satanic. There are many types of Satanism, however, and most of them are not evil at all. If you mean to say people shouldn't assume they are evil, you're correct in that. But saying they're a Satanic band is not outlandish, it's in fact quite accurate

  • @quentenburnett7296
    @quentenburnett7296 5 ปีที่แล้ว +294

    I always interpreted this as a cultist trying to deceive a young, naive, and perhaps lonely and sad person to join them. They aren't evil, menacing or threatening, quite the opposite. They try to be kind, to see the best in the person that they try to seduce. Saying things like "I know your soul is not tainted even though you've been told so" is essentially saying that they see the good in them that the rest of the world doesn't, so if you come along and join us you'll be with a group who finally understands and accepts you.
    Which is funny because that's actually how most cults irl actually work. They don't kidnap their new recruits or threaten them, they try to appeal to people who feel lost or without purpose by being kind and attractive, when in reality they're anything but. That's why I like this song, it's actually very dark and eerie, but only deceptively so.

    You don't need to scream to be metal. This is a unique and in my opinion, beautiful approach... It reaches me more to understand what the hell you're saying and what I'm listening to lol

    The sound of this song is a mixture of Slayer and Blue Oyster Cult. The arrangement is a very classic rock feel. This band is a breath of fresh air. My favorite band of the 2010's.

      Can you tell me what nemA means? I know it's from the prayer in Ritual, but I've not been able to find it's meaning.

    This song made me realize I wasn't alone on the path that I've been on and I need not to be hiding but be more of a very good positive person who has no reason to be angry at the world but use my emotional energy to my advantage to do my will instead of letting my stress level eat me up

    When I was about to be a sophomore in high school almost eight years ago, I was introduced to this song by way of the best TH-cam ad I have ever seen before or since then. I listened to the whole song as an ad, then went to listen to it again. I don't even remember what sort of video I was about to watch, but I got introduced to Ghost instead and loved it. My mom and stepdad soon came to love Ghost as well, and they took me to see Ghost open for Iron Maiden in the summer two years later.

    Ghost played as supporting act for Foo Fighters yesterday, this was the first time I heard them. It was fucking awesome, as is their music, their entire act, their scene presence, everything just clicks.

      Burdjur Ghost + Foo Fighters gig = Grohl as a Ghoul somewhere.. :) He produced the "If You Have Ghost" EP and they recorded it in his awesome house studio thing with the same Neve mixer Nirvana's Nevermind went through.. when it was in Sound City.
