- The 2017 Subaru WRX STI is obviously a legend, a fact that everyone knows and accepts as fact. As one of the least subtle sport compacts on the market with one of the richest histories, the STI’s fanbase is even more fervent than the general Subaru fandom, which makes sense, as the STI is the flagship product of the Japanese automaker’s lineup that represents the very best of what Subaru has to offer.

I am 57 and got my first Sti this Jan so had it for about a year. It's an absolute joy to drive even more fun than my Z06 or my previous AMG 55. those of you complaining about the "same old engine" don't know jack

I'm 53 and I'm just about to buy an STI. There's so much negative online about the engines not lasting. I keep seeing these videos and it's pushing me closer to buying it.

I owned the 2014 one just when it came out, top spec and it was a bloody cool car but it's motor is a little behind now, yes, but still great fun and an awesome drivetrain... Best handling car i've driven.
mitsu needs to bring the evo back to life.
Can't believe that the lower-end WRX (non-STI) gets a newer engine and more refined powertrain (I've test-driven both). I hope that this'll benefit from Subaru's new platform, interior and newer engine soon. It basically has that market for itself now that the Evo is gone, and the Civic Type R hasn't arrived stateside yet.

Koncealed seriously. I laughed. I have a '16 STi and it doesn't start boosting til nearly 3k... and there's very little torque until then lol

If you are reving 4500rpm before you hit it, there is no turbo lag ;-)

Matt Coffey lol I drive a Saab, I'm a total skater kid who works in the trades. Saabs are pretty fast too. It's not a WRX, but I sure do smoke corollas who try to get up next to me.

Peak torque is NOT available at 2000. It might help to know the stats before doing a review.

Too bad Subaru killed the WRX/STI hatch. Save yourself some money and buy a Mazdaspeed 6. Slick 6 speed manual, award winning engine, strong AWD drivetrain, stealthy sleeper looks, more refined suspension tuneing and a higher quality interior. A car that is 10 years old might not have all the tech gadgets, but is a compelling choice in this category of affordable sport sedan.
Be easy on her. Yes she said no turbo lag lol but she did say how much fun the sti is. I'm making it my number one goal to make this my next family car...hold on tight kiddos! Yes the focus. Rs is prolly better, but not with dealers adding there markups
Deleting that spoiler would make this a sleeper car and improve the looks dramatically. That spoiler is only helpful if you are doing triple-digit speeds

When I had my 03 evo it made me feel that way she said but I traded it and bought a 14 focus st and hated it and traded for a 14 evo and it definitely wasn’t the same but when I traded that in a bought a 17 limited sti I had the same feeling I did when I had the evo 8

Another boring review of a performance car. Does autoguide tell its reviewers they can't go over 30 mph ? At least show an acceleration run onto a freeway or something. If Craig wasn't still on this channel I would have unsubscribed already.
Such a great review! The best test on the STi in long time. Experience is very important = raw feeling! Subaru keep the rumble in the STi.

I would take a Focus RS over this, but still a fun car.
DevPack focus rs definetly better but a lot more $ especially with dealer mark ups
the interior of the RS is really bad, i prefer the previous version to be honest.
Exhaust holes are very beautiful.

there is one thing....old engine means more ways to mod this car in the market. switching to a new engine needs time to get more modification kits. but for me, i will not do any mod, so please have a new engine.
Idk y everyone is hating on this car. It's an awesome car!!! The update is coming next year but get ready cuz it will not have that boxer rumble anymore it's going to be a lot more advanced but ppl will hate on it cuz it's not like the old ones but if they don't change it like this gen ppl bitch that it's the same make up your minds ppl!!!

A lackluster and lazy review. Very little relevant information was presented here. It lacked information about the brakes and the brake pedal feel. No mention about the suspension setup, the driver seating position and the type and size of the tires(even though the front tires were shown in this clip). This is not just a subaru fanboy car but an enthusiast car. A review on a performance car should have all these information. As a long time autoguide subscriber, I expected better.

I totally get what she means, my daily is an 03 GMC 2500 6.0L and my toy is an 01 LS1 Camaro 6 speed every time I drive the Camaro I drive it like a complete idiot lol but its hard not to when you can light the tires or get sideways with a burp of the throttle!
I understand your guys concern with the same engine but as long as a car is a gas combustion engine, its all going to be the same so I there's really no reason to be complaining about the engine. Subaru did spent a billion dollars reegineering the platform.

24 mpg on the highway is so-so for a sport compact.

No power hike for this MY? This has become outdated and Ford and soon Honda will have passed them by with their performance. I loved my 98 RS coupe but Subaru seems to be stuck in pushing this model forward :/

If you take time to really look into it, there really is few other awd worth having over an STI.

The WRX STi is a legend, the 2017 WRX STi is an obsolete product that is no longer competitive. Subaru have dropped the ball unfortunately.

Kids love WRX's and Evos and GTRs and Skylines and all those Japanese boy racer cars, strictly because they are A, convinced that everything from Japan is faster than anything from America, and B, because they are all AWD cars, which give people who cant fucking drive, a false sense of competency as well as safety. Great and all for casual gamers and kids who like fixing shit when it breaks, but it also takes all the exhilaration out of driving. And no, I'm not some meat head muscle freak, I drive European cars myself, so I'm also an interior snob, and dont think a $40,000 car should feel like a rental. But that's it in a nutshell. Drive a WRX or even an STi and youll realize they arent very fast. Hell I've walked plenty of subarus in my fucking volvo lmao. And if you end up actually wanting to make it fast, you'll end up with a blown motor like every other subaru owner who decides to install an MBC on their car without a proper tune.
