good guide. heres some extra tips for anyone who is a beginner:
in the early game you only have a few build slots available, so if you can get away with it in battle, do not make any recruitment buildings (unless there's a game changer unit e.g cathay cannons) and just go for money and growth. this will help you get out of the early game mud easier
you can check if a province has any armies stationed in a province by looking at control. if the province has a bonus "military presence" buff it means there is units inside one of the settlements. the amount of units inside will be public order bonus/number of settlements in province, so if ai has 2 settlements in a province and has 7 military presence control bonus, one of the settlements has an army of 14 units inside. if it has one settlement, that settlement would have 7 units inside
blitzkrieg is the most effective way to take out a troublesome faction. the ai is inefficient with armies; it raids, sieges down settlements longer than it needs to and recruits multiple turn units all the time. this means that your armies can take their settlements much faster than the ai can do to you. if an ai sends an army into some non-essential heartland, e.g gerslev, and you don't have the resources to both kill it and take their settlements, ignore the army, finish off the ai settlements and circle back around. chances are they wont even take a settlement
be efficient with your turns. why? because the ai can and will always come back just as strong if you do not pressure them to death. do not do anything that will add extra turns to your conquest time unless you absolutely have to. this includes multi turn recruiting (e.g global recruitment) with a functional army, trying for an ambush when not necessary (like in the vid but lets not talk about that lol), making an encampment for replenishment when you could just attack, etc
plan out your army movements; zigzagging to different settlements adds turns to the conquest time, which means ai armies have longer to recruit, and you end up fighting harder battles. beelining for essential settlements is sometimes fine, for example black crag for orcs in wh2, but usually the ai will be fine without their capital settlement
control can be tricky on higher levels. revolts can derail your armies giving the ai vital time to strike back, so best to avoid them. you can turn off taxes in the side with the checkbox to add 4 control to that province. adding control companions to spare heroes and putting them in troublesome provinces can give it a lifeline. buildings and heroes that remove bad corruption faster is a huge help for public order. if your army is about to leave an imminently revolting province it is best to cause the revolt on the next turn by raiding, or looting the final settlement so that the army can deal with the revolt next turn and keep going. generally, keeping provinces under control will speed up conquest
expand in one direction. this is sometimes hard to do but if you can choose, expand in the direction with the best loot (e.g gold), and secure every other side of you with alliances (temporary or permenant), and chokepoints with strong garrisons. this helps against army zigzagging, which in extreme cases can have you losing more settlements than your gaining.
eat whoever is worth eating. even if they want to be friendly, if they are sitting on some valuable stuff like a goldmine or easy and rich settlements, take that stuff and leave with no regrets
confederation is better than conquest if you can do it, because it means you can focus on other fronts militarily while adding extra settlements diplomatically
alliances with potential confederation options is a bad idea as the ai will add your strength to theirs when deciding if they should confederate. secure friendship with trade, non aggression pacts and military access then eat them
in mid/late game, having 10 of a recruitment building reduces the global recruitment duration by 1 turn. build a bunch of recruitment buildings in spare build slots in minor settlements, and get some more global recruit buildings to get 1 turn nesquick insta armies! great for plugging holes and maintaining momentum in far off campaigns
chaos rifts are the worst. you can stop them from spawning in a province by building the torch building in the brown garrison section.
experience gained is based off of 2 things; how hard was the battle in autoresolve and how much damage value the main lord did. you can check damage value after the battle by hovering over their kills. this system favours caster lords, but even with fighter lords, letting them kill the expensive squishy units will net you tons of experience. if its an easy battle sometimes just let the lord solo it, if they're good enough. it also means supporting armies will ge tthe same experience that the first lord got, so you can have low level trashy lords leech off the chad max level greater demon as he solos 4 armies
big settlements in red territory will not be useful to you, so sack them of all its worth before occupying it, though keep in mind sack and occupy reduces a settlement by 2 levels, but looting and occupying reduces it by one (its only one level contrary to what some commentors say).
in battles, a unit will be wiped out if its army wins but it has lost 95% (i think) of its entities. if an army loses however, that unit will die at around 80% losses. so cycle out any units that go below 1/4 hp, and only run down enough of a unit to kill it, e.g with a 100 man squad getting them below 20 will wipe them out.
a loss can be a win. if a troublesome army has some squishy units and you are going to lose the battle no matter what (and this will always happen in a campaign), if you want you can fight the battle manually and snipe the squishy stuff to make the next battles easier. this is super effective with chaos furies, flamers, artillery pieces (excluding the sky junk), flesh hounds, snow leapords and if you have enough missiles, giants and unarmoured greater demons. if your confident with your damage output, aim for the raid boss units like stonehorns, exalted bloodthirsters, bear cavalry etc
putting a naked lord just into attacking range of an ai army will cause it to target the lord. retreat with the lord every time its attacked and you can send doomstack armies on a wild goose chase while you deal with its settlements
situations will arise when armies are stationed outside the settlement. attack the settlement if the enemy is weaker than you, otherwise the lord will run away and make it tricky to catch it. if the ai THINKS its stronger than your forces, attack the army outside the sttlement drawing the garrison out and murdering them
ill maybe add some more stuff to this if i remember any useful tips that apply to all types of total war players, in the mean time thank you for listening to my ted talk
EDIT: im starting to stream some warhammer content so if you need any help with campaigns just hop on there and ill help you through anything your struggling with. also watching legendoftotalwar, lionheart, mercythemad, and dameoffensive is a good way to learn new tricks

Best tip here is the warning about alliances and confederation. Confederation is usually something that players will plan several turns in advance, spend many turns building up the relationship, and can easily get stuck in a frustrating and confusing situation where the target stubbornly refuses to accept the deal, ruining the entire flow of a campaign.
I say this now being pretty sure I must have made this exact mistake on my Bretonia campaign, which set me back a simply infuriating amount of turns. I never understood what the issue was at the time, but can avoid making the mistake the next time.
Alliances in wh3 no longer reduce confederation. You can yoink an ally army and make confederation easier.
I'm not entirely sure how experience works but units get experience for themselves based on their damage as gold dealt.
Alliances are still the biggest noob trap in the game. They bring you into so many unnecessary wars or tank your reliability which affects diplomacy with every other faction and takes a billion years to mend. Just keep your neighboring friendly partners as trade partners and get money from that until like very late in the game.
Another scouting aid you didn’t mention was checking the enemy settlement public order tooltip - even if you don’t have visibility, you can still see if they are getting a Military Presence modifier and if so, how much, giving an indication of the size of any garrisoned army.

I did enjoy that, and it has helped me quite a bit. Not only am I struggling to remember my ‘rock, paper, scissors’ unit match ups, but I find myself running back and forth a lot to defend my provinces. Inevitably losing some to try and wipe out bigger armies. Thanks!
Cheesy tip that I found in my second Katarin play through, with the Vanaheimlings being a quest faction intended to be wiped out quickly, they do pretty much nothing if you leave them be. Instead of attacking them first, go after Praag first and loop around with the Vanaheimlings town being the last that you take. Their quest army won't move or grow, and their second army only grows to about a half stack, by doing this you have a "safe" eastern border until you feel like completing the province.
Loot and Occupy does come with a much more significant cost than public order; it downgrades the captured settlement by an entire level - on top of the automatic downgrade you get for taking in the first place. This can be no problem; if you only want to hold onto the city temporarily as a staging post for your armies, even level 1 is fine. For high-growth factions it can be fine to drop a small town to level 1 instead of level 2; it doesn't cost too much or take that long to upgrade later, especially if you've got full-level towns elsewhere. For high-level cities and especially low-growth factions, it's an awful idea - the difference between level 3 and 4 can be a dozen or more turns just to get the growth then 4-6 more turns to actually build it up, plus whatever buildings you lose for loss of slots.
For minor settlements, if your faction has a level 2 garrison then dropping from level 2 to 1 is a huge problem - you have now taken the town from 3-4 turns to being self-defending against junk armies and rebellions, to 7-10 and much more gold. The sooner you can leave your garrisons to defend themselves, the better for your frontline forces.
i think you mean sack and then occupy. loot and occupy only drops one level. sacking and occupying drops 2.
Some factions can get large bonuses for sacking a settlement. Dark elves for example get large bonuses, and their economy is based on having a lot of slaves in a few well developed provinces.

Occupying reduces no level and does no damage.
Loot and occupy reduces no level, but does damage/demolishes a random building.
Sacking damages and reduces settlement by one level.
So when you do not like the buildings loot and occupy is a good choice for rich cities, especially when you have the time for autorepair.
Edit. Im unsure now what is correct. It could also be that Loot and occupy reduces one level as even occupying does. Then sacking reduces also by 1 level, but since you need to occupy it later you will reduce another level, ending up with a practical 2 level reduce. But my main point is that "occupying" and " Loot&Occupying" does the same in terms of reducing the settlement. Hope you see my edit and what I mean.

yes occupying always reduces a level. same with loot and occupy, but also damages buildings.
sacking reduces level, damages buildings, and the income is usually huge.
i often sack and then occupy.
its usually not much time to rebuild the settlement levels up with growth...and even a lvl 5 settlement will anyway go down to lvl 4, so im ok with getting it to lvl 3 for a HUGE sum of money.
most buildings i want to destroy anyway usually...and to build it how i want.
this way i get a ton of money, and dont have extreme public order problems.

In my experience looting and occupying is awful, costs just as much sometimes more to repair the buildings in the town than you make
yup. the only time looting and occupying is useful is when you have a city you don't intend to hold, but you don't have enough movement points to sack and then occupy
you dont have to repair it. it will repair it self
It's good against huge factions. Destroying tzeentch netted me around 10k+ from each settlement. This was around the 4th soul, so late game.
Even if you'll keep settlement, looting early can give you those first items for lords/heroes.
also usefull for money transfer from looted city to main region in province if u cant afford big buildings
I love those videos which teach general concepts because they are applicable to all of your playthroughs and i feel like they help me the most in understanding the game.
Required movement remaining is actually done by points, not percentage as the game suggests. Look at your movement bar and long as the number is at or above (game will sometimes round down and fail to display so staying at least 1 point above is advisable) the required number for the stance you'll be allowed to use it.
pro-pro tip since it wasn't mentioned in the video: Make sure you've got a bit of extra movement for ambush stance or adopt the stance then move. For reasons unknown to me, there's some rando variable(either terrain or campaign movement modifiers not displaying the number correctly) to taking a stance that if you're at 25-27% movement, you still won't be able to activate ambush stance.
Make sure that number is closer to 28-30% if you're going to go into ambush after movement. Personally I'd advise just going into ambush before movement. It doesn't actually cost you anything since the 25% movement cost gets refunded if for whatever reason you change your mind.
Also go hard at the AI in an ambush. At least for the first little bit they prioritize escaping, not fighting. Who would say no to free damage? IT'S FREE DAMAGE!

Loot and settle can be useful if u need a temp outpost to regen in enemy territory u can’t stay permanently inside of.
Believe it or not its easier to hide an army in a whole bunch of trees rather than out in an open field...LOL great one

Sylvania seems always the best choise for me to take first or second.
Don't even need to watch the video, here is the real tutorial TLDR.
1. Start the game
2. End first turn - someone declares war on you
3. End second turn - more people declare war on you
4. After third turn, you are in war with everyone around you. So you either need to kill them or lose the game.
By the time you finish killing everyone who declared war on you, you'll be 50 turns deep, have a huge empire and then finally, you'll be able to declare a war by yourself just to tear them apart with your mighty armies. Since obviously, by this time you'll be the strongest one on the whole map
Love ur channel Zerc but this video was basically a guide on how to get the first province with Kislev. Yes you mention Scouting, and um.. looking to see if there are banners around.. but as a "guide" you should really have these concepts broken down into a list maybe, of important strategies for empire expansion.. such as 1 - Scouting, 2 - Aim for whole provinces, 3 - Exploit opportunities 4 dont over-reach etc.
Should re-do this but with the new Chaos Princes DLC. Very very different experience, especially with Gore Queen trying to steam roll you around turn 20.

aren't single cities the worst to build up because you only have one settlement providing growth?
but I agree that taking praag first is best, because otherwise it might result in their final army defending the city
actually single cities are better because the other ones are limited to lvl3

I'd recommend just going east and consolidate the province like the game wants you too. The first settlement battle against the Kislev faction can be a bit hard but the rest of them are just garrison battles. Yn your way you will meet a weak ogre faction which you can destroy for easy xp and money. After that move to Praag with as much archers as possible. Lure their army out with a second lord and Katarina in ambush stance. You don't have to starve them out at all. Just position your army on the south west side because there are no towers there that can hit you. Shoot easy targets like Kossars with your archers and use magic. Don't shoot the Tzar guard from the front because they have shields. You don't even need to enter the city to win.
Do you disband units when you've taken so much to save cash for upgrades, or do you hold onto a standing, but maybe expensive, army?
I'm playing skaven on TWWH2, everyone that would help me fell, i'm fighting back against Dwarfs, Empire, Brettonia AND High Elves (dark elves went poof and they killed chaos invasion in 50- turns)... I'm crawling at the dwarfs so i can finish and focus on empire, but they confederated all dwarven factions... It's a meat grinder out there

I see one mistake: when You dont have siege engines to destroy turrets BUT You have mage with free winds of magic, You can just go every turn to drop some magic without any loses instead of just waiting for them to start get attrition

You forgot to mention Norsca's tactic of early expansion, where you just need to defeat the enemy warlord in battle and then you can force his faction into confederation.

Then the fog came alive before the black knight Tulum it mocked him and whispered to him then a face appeared within the fog staring back at him Tulum slash a wide Arc towards the face out of fear
But the fog reconstructed its face back over as it smiled back at him it invaded his body by going through his mouth and nose and ears
The Black Knight fell to his back as he screamed in Terror he convulsed and his body shake then it froze
Then the body rise from the ground levitating his eyes open with a flash of a red glare he smiled the most evilest grin as he picked up the long broadsword and walked off the field of death
It was night time in Kislev as Lance and his friends were at the wounded
Polar bear inn and tavern as the Witch Hunter paid in advancement of 5000 crowns for the whole entire month for his group he gather them all at the front of the drinking bar
He stood in front of them as they held drinks Baurick Raven hand chaos dwarf knew something was already not right and he was not the only one
For Maxwell and poison star also knew since they were connected with Lance more than anybody.
Then Lance raised his hand towards everybody as he give the speech to them
Friends and conrades we've been through a lot together I know sometimes it is not easy going through some of my principles
And seeing so much of the death that we've triumph over together
But now there are some things I must do alone you all must understand this I want to share this toast with you all treasure these moments my friends for they are our last and whatever is to happen to me my good friends know this I loved every one of you for what you wore

Campaigns are big things made up of lots of little parts. This is a perfect example of how to deal with one of those parts.
Unless CA fixed it - you need 25 movement points to assume the Ambush Stance, not 25% of your MPs.
Well after countless hours and campaigns, the terrain impact on the chance to ambush was new to me. How did I miss that after all this time?!?
6:25 If they have two armies though and head out to fight you, can't they easily win that fight? Even though you ambushed the other army it looks like they've mostly healed up and would be joined by the settlement garrison on the field.
i know this is an older comment so i apologize if this isnt relevant anymore but even if they head out to fight you can always choose to retreat and then the settlement garrison cant follow if the single army decides to chase, if they allow you to keep sieging then its an easy starve out, also it is not nearly as close as auto resolve would have you believe as katarin ice magic plus the overall quality of units the army has is a lot better than the garrison and army the ai has, since a lot of the scary units they have are all armoured while players army has a good amount of anti armour damage

In immortal empires, I have several campaign starts where I get attacked from one of two sides with very heavy armies (east or west for example). If I leave to fight one, the other side gets taken, and the game gets increasingly more difficult as I lose key buildings and have to rebuild them.
I know you touched on it slightly when you recruited that lord out to help with the garrison defence, but in general how do you judge the right time to start raising another full army?
Depends a lot on faction. If you are using your entire income on armies, then only raise if you see a threat coming that will wipe out a major city or developed town, and disband soon after - negative income is highly risky.
Otherwise, if you can raise a whole army and still have enough to keep your settlements building, go for it as long as you have a specific plan for them. For Kislev, Empire, Elves, Cathay - factions that make most money from their cities and trade - you need to leave spare income for buildings. For Ogres, Greenskins, Beastmen - factions that get big bursts of money from winning or sacking - you can go down to only just positive income and use loot money to build.
The big thing is you need to actually have a plan for that army, a way for them to make you win more or keep you from losing. A small army that follows your real army around is useless if your real army wins every fights easily; a defensive army that fights once in twenty turns saving one settlement is useless - even if you can afford the 3000-6000 gold per turn, that's a lot less gold you're pumping into your settlements. You need to keep your empire's snowball rolling or it'll get crushed by the big boys.

doesnt loot and occupy lower the tier of buildings in the settlement more than just occupying? i tought it was the case and that the looting didnt cover the cost of repairing and upgrading

I'm pretty if you loot and occupy you lose a settlement tier as opposed to just occupying. So it's OK to do tier 1 and if you're not wanting to build it up
I hardly need this but it will still be very interesting and intruiging

This is a really great guide! My problem is that when I focus on expanding to this degree early on, I won't have the time/power to do the chaos rift. Is it something I can neglect this early? I fear that I might lose later because other factions got ahead
You can safely ignore the first rifts and I often do. Just make sure to attack any faction you run into in the Realms- that usually stops them from winning
as of patch 1.3, which is today, you can fully ignore the realms until you feel like doing them. There's no rush, as long as you keep your main Lord's army strong.
how do you get to an open campaign map like in TW2? i beat the main quest but i dont see a regular open map campaign option in TW3
Orrr you can build second army and take over eastern province and send the queen to Prague. Divide and conquer works even on Warhammer 3 :)

I can play every modern graphics game at 75 fps
Im worried i wont be able to run warhammer 3 campaign map

Play on smaller unit sizes maybe that will help since the default is the max size
I would try looking a bit at what the recommended specs and and what your PCs specs are as and maybe go to wh2 and try seeing if some of the little settings like making dead bodies dissapear straight away and small unit sizes as was said can help a lot and turning off shadows if you haven't done any of that before and see if it helps much because you can do that for game 3 aswell

i dont like the idea of taking praag that quickly it leaves it very open to attack while you take eastern oblast
Yeah but if you don't take Praag you risk letting your enemies muster forces in there, leaving Kislev vulnerable to attacks. So it's a good idea to take Praag early on (and not invest in it yet) so even if you lose it later to a surprise attack, it will serve as an immediate shield to Kislev. With that in mind you can focus on the eastern front while Kislev is safe.

Nice video, but ambush stance fails all the time
Nothing you can really do about the rng aspect of ambushing, but you can use a lone army-less lord to lure enemy armies into those forests. If the lone lord is within attacking range the ai will practically never fail to take the bait. All you gotta do then is find some high percentage ambush terrain within that range, plop that lone lord there, and put your proper army right next to him in ambush stance. Easy as pie.

I tried playing as Kislev, first time playing in ages. Normal campaign and hard battle. It was going okay but slow. I had one army trying to fight the norsca and my LL went south to help empire with the vampires.
I got ambushed by 3 vampire armies and ran my army off, everyone got out…. They stole my LL unique weapon… i rage quit and uninstalled lol
that's easy, just never lose a fight and win every fight
if you made a mistake just be lucky and win anyway
Tip 1: Play your first minor settlement battle and realize 80% of your battles in campaign will be this. Uninstall and go back to 2.
Nothing about "expansion guide", it's just a Kislev 10 turn start guide for dummies, meh. Content collabs with CA are awful.

you just get you like 2 regions and just defend till the rifts apear and just end the kampagne after 4-5 rift openings

Yeah, Warhammer 3 current state is still just like Warhammer 2 (Vortex campaign) when it was released. It only has it's own campaign mode focused on a certain part of the world instead of being a sandbox like how Mortal Empires is, and how Immortal Empires will be.
In WH 3 you only need like 3 or 4 regions then beat the rifts, the worst thing about this game is that if you play in legendary you gotta do every single battle manual, it took me like 80hrs to complete it,
What a shame of a game that force you to play it on their highest difficulty rather than play it by itself... =(

Why would anyone play on legendary it isnt even fun
I'm having fun with it. You just need to nail down the first 10 or so turns. Usually it takes experimenting and restarting a few times. Once you have a solid start you can go from there and the challenge makes it more interesting. Late game becomes easy and you steamroll everything anyways.
@@BloodHassassin I respectfully disagree with you because in Legendary difficulty the AI just massively cheats on you, which creates an inflexible and stale campaign and a huge grindfest.
In lower difficult settings you can actually afford to mess around and have fun, even when factions attack you.
Simple answer… I’ve played 2000 hours of WH2 so anything other than legendary just feels totally trivial.
Once you have learned how the AI factions work anything short of Legendary is just a boring effortless tidal wave of expansion.
NEVER do what he did there! LOOT AND OCCUPY should only be used on an ENEMY TURN, to save time on your upcoming turn if they sally out and fight. You Win and you can take their settlement, also depending on what you want to do with said settlement. ON YOUR TURN however. especially when you've sat there building siege equipment, you should just occupy if you plan on building that settlement up to save time and resources spent on building. (Looting and sacking lowers settlement by one tier leaving it damaged and in need of repair, "More Money Spent" before upgrading it back to where it was before you sacked it. "More Money Spent". it also dmgs everything else and destroys buildings associated with lost slots from the settlement tier lowering. "More Money Spent" and give you a huge public order penalty to waste time with an army countering or a rebellion to deal with. So did you make money or lose it? Save time or lose it? Here is what you want to do and why!
SACK THE SETTLEMENT, and then OCCUPY; & ONLY if you're willing to sacrifice the money of one settlment for something else quick cash related that short term is actually more worth it. Sacking lowers the "ENEMY public order, Not Your Public order(It's not yours yet)". Then Occupy, which switches the public order to become fresh and neutral with only the basic "Occupy a settlment" public order effects which are very minor.
TO ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY AND TIME JUST
"OCCUPY" Then "DEMOLISH" any Buildings you don't want or would like to replace; Which will also give you more money then if you sacked or looted as well. (half of whatever it cost to build, Which could be a upwards of 3200 - 5000 a building or More if it is a high value building) And if there are buildings you would have built anyway. There is time and money not spent on that by just keeping them.
