    Also, browsing the dilomacy screen instantly informs you of the number of settlements a faction has, and their power ranking :
    If a faction only has one settlement left, you can deduce that whatever army they have is parked there, likely a 20 stack
    if a faction's power rating drops overnight, you can reasonably assume that their biggest army just got wiped out, and now might be a good time to take risks ;7

      @@TotalWarriorLegends Well, it's diffcult to go into even more detail without sounding condescending... when you select a faction on the diplomacy screen, there's a strength bar that shows how the computer calculates their power relative to yours (the same as when you go in pre-battle); it counts both armies and settlements. So if your green suddenly overtakes their red (even if ally), that means they just lost a major settlement or army.
      There's also a number that is their overall rank of power compared to eveyone else. at the start of the game, the weakest faction might be rank 147, while at turn 200 it will be rank 33 only by virtue that there are less factions left... Obviously, if THAT number tanks, go for the throat ;7

    This is another reason why I rarely ever raze a settlement. Even if I know I won’t keep it (not easily) or don’t plan on expanding that way soon, having it there gives me an advance notice like a watchtower as to anything coming my way. Alliances can also help with this, though that is more of a benefit of an alliance rather than a good strategy for intel. It certainly won’t help with quick challenges like a newly declared war or finding an enemy army.

    I usually keep 1-2 heroes in an army and send them out to scout when needed. Having a hero all by themselves just feels like a huge waste of income. Plus actually doing things with them just sucks out more money. Most factions I've played, several heroes cost as much as an entire 20 stack.

    • @lcdcstudios
      @lcdcstudios ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the only reason to use heros out of an army is to check for ambushing armies IMO, they are too costly to be used as a scout and their abilities are a waste of money even when specialized to t3. tbh I wish heroes could place down watchtowers like older total war games and just scrap the entire system of spending money on a slight advantage which 90% of the time wont work and if it does just is not worth it

  • @danielgloyd4529

    I've always liked using heroes that have the steal technology ability as scouts. That way, they don't feel like wasted upkeep not being a part of an army. You run the risk of a critical failure, but the boost in research is nice. Especially with a faction like Vampire Counts that have really spamable necromancer heroes. You can easily get your tech rate to 3 or 4 hundred % with little investment, all while providing scouting information.

So thats gonna be wood elves, beastmen, dwarves, orcs, and skaven armies can move into unexpected locations, and if you are ever fighting them, I suggest prioritizing getting rid of them (though you can usually wait with wood elves since they most just sit in one spot and raid for awhile).

    Dedicated scout units would be cool. Either in the form of heroes or a type of army that has reduced upkeep/no supply lines impact but very limited troop options. Hero counts are often fairly low and their xp mechanics really discourage using them for scouting instead of levelling them up. If they earned xp at a constant rate every turn rather than for doing actions/combat I'd be way more inclined to scout with them.

      Heroes like the waywatcher seem made for use on the campaign map, but there are indeed too few of them and, if you want to level them, actions are very costly compared to leveling in battle.

    • @emanuelalfred1565
      @emanuelalfred1565 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve found heroes who can assault garrisons can be very useful. Particularly, in the early game when one might have a weaker army and has the opportunity to target a key settlement. They can do a fair amount of damage until your actual army gets there. This makes the siege a lot easier and less casualties occur leading to less time replenishing.
      I use a mod that increases the strength of garrisons so this strategy comes in handy for minor settlements too since they cannot be taken as easily.
      The cost of the hero and the action saves the lives of my army, keeping us moving forward. Sometimes, I won’t make a full twenty stack to leave space to embed my heroes when needed.
      In order to get a boost to research I’ll attack a settlement with my hero in he army and use the hero to steal technology after the battle. This doubles the XP my hero gains in a single turn. I feel actions like this can help a hero be more cost efficient and use all of their abilities vs just the combat abilities.
      Heroes can be useful for Azazel and N’kari by spreading the gift of Slaanesh as well. Of course defeating an army will do this too, but you can spread it quicker and then use the gifts to your advantage in combat when a fight takes place.

    Damn I never think of using agents for non-army use. Very rarely do I use one when there's an area with an unusually high frequency of enemy agents buzzing around. Agents cost upkeep, right? It always feel like a waste of money, but this video showed me how wrong that impression might have been.

    • @arthanor9631
      @arthanor9631 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agents do cost upkeep, but they cost upkeep in your army as well. And they often can move further than your armies (outside forced march).
      Especially in areas where settlements are more than a turn of normal march away for an army, it is quite worth it to detach heroes to scout before moving your army. By the time your army can besiege the next settlement, the hero will likely be able to rejoin for the battle. And if you have the funds, you might be able to perform an action (kill an agent, block an army you found while scouting) that will result in gaining a level and maybe even a useful trait (a lot of the "hates X" and action specific trait are quite nice).

    • @emanuelalfred1565
      @emanuelalfred1565 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I’m not mistaking, heroes do not lead to trespassing penalties neither. So if you’re trying to build relations with someone, you can send a hero to help aid them on their war front. Use hero actions against their enemy to help boost relations. This prevents you from having to declare war. Where this tactic can be extra handy is if you have defensive alliances or vassals. If the hero targeted faction finally declares war on you, they’ll drag themselves into war with your defensive Alliances and vassals. Declaring war on another faction does not automatically pull your vassal in.
      This action can also help clear the fog of war and give info on what’s going on in an area you cannot see without leading to trespassing penalties.

    • @emanuelalfred1565
      @emanuelalfred1565 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Jixxor no problem! Glad to help. Having a few heroes on the map early can also give newer armies a bit of a boost by adding one or more of those leveled up heroes into the newer armies (especially for factions like WOC who can be limited in what units they recruit). They’ll gain levels via hero actions (when outside of your full 20 stack). This can help heroes who tend to be weak at early levels such as wizards until they unlock their better spells. They’ll be able to hold heir own better since they shouldn’t be as squishy.
      Lastly, keeping a few on the campaign map but near armies can help you quickly replaced a lost unit which could save you valuable time. Thus, I’ve found it more beneficial to only pick campaign maps skills I’ll used the most, then fill out their battle lines vs. putting all of the skills points on their map effects. Of course, you’ll end up with more than enough skill points to max out everything on hero’s but it helps make the earlier levels more efficient for those heroes.
