We have a relatively short drive to visit Leavenworth. The lot you were in I knew as the P6 lot, which has historically been clearly signed as a single overnight stay with no more than 24 hours total. We’ve boondocked there for a single night on at least 2 occasions in the past. While in Leavenworth we spent money, mostly on food, but usually 3 or 4 meals and additional snacks, and we’d . We might do a round of mini-golf at one of the two mini-golf courses. We’d easily drop $300 on all of this in a 24 hour period. Then we’d pick ourselves up and head home. We have also stayed at both of the campgrounds you biked through. The first one has recently changed hands. We haven’t stayed there since the management changed, but it was always pleasant, even if the sites are pretty tight. We’ve stayed at the KOA once. We were happy with it, but they don’t open the pool or any of the services early enough in the season for us, we usually want to visit over our daughter’s spring break. There is another private campground down Icicle Rd. But I’m not familiar with it, and it is a ways out of town, so you either need a vehicle to get you back into town or you just camp. If what they have done with the P6 lot is true, that is very sad. They already had it limited to 24 hour stay, so aside from some other desire to develop the lot, removing the 24 hour stay provision make no sense.

Seems that many of us have a similar story then! It's a shame, but I suppose if they feel any impact by it, they will create another lot somewhere. It's a pretty cool tradition to visit for families out there!

We’ve been seeing this a lot in small cities around Colorado for no overnights. Colorado Springs & surrounding area was especially challenging. I’ve always felt like of these places would just “enforce” laws for 24hr parking then they wouldn’t be fighting this homeless encampment issue and in some cases a lot of these small towns don’t even have that issue, but they’re being proactive, because of fear. Sucks for us fulltimers, but you’re right, I guess they don’t want our money.

We've never seen it in CO, but we'll have to swing by and take a look. Personally, I think if cities can do two things, they'll prevent issues:
      1. Give a few reasonable locations, such as simple lots like these, for folks to park. Maybe it's a small donation fee to keep the lot up and running, add a dumpster, maybe a port-o-potty, depending on funding. Keep it simple, out of the way, but give folks options.
      2. Enforce parking rules equally and consistently. If there's an alternative, help folks find these locations and ensure that they're safe spots with a few extra patrols.
If Colorado Springs and those areas are anything like Seattle, the issue really isn't with parking or RV encampments and the like, but instead with addiction, severe mental health issues, and crime. That's a harder one to tackle, but I can imagine these bigger cities all struggle with similar issues. 😕

Camping bans suck, boycott all towns with camping bans.

I reckon the city updated their laws at the behest of the campground owners. Who would want to spend 250(k) on a motorhome, only to have to pay $40 per night to park it? The city is short-sighted in their zoning laws, and I suspect other RVers will feel the same as you. 10:57 The wife is spot on. If that's 'camping' than I'm the Queen of England.

It would appear so. KOA is $110+/night, but the state park can't even park a rig like ours, according to their site! It's wild that a town can make an issue out of simply allowing a place for folks like us and many others to pull off, enjoy an evening, spend our money in the town, boost the economy. Oh well, we'll vote with our wallet, though it's a shame because it's such a cool spot to stop and spend a day or two! And no joke, there's not much in the way of "camping" there! 😂

On the other side of that..if you can afford a 100k sprinter van...you can afford to pay 40 bucks a night to camp at a state park. Plus towns like leavenworth are already packed far beyond their limit with regard to parking...I can't imagine it's in their benefit to have to manage overnighters as well.

Wow, such beautiful nature surrounds yet so many campers cooped up in an overcrowded and overpriced campground. Would definitely vote with my money and go elsewhere.
ROFL to your reactions to the cold water 😂😂 and styling the Crocs and sock tan lines 😂👍

It is so beautiful! But not a chance I'd be spending so much every night for a crowded place to park in this beauty!
Hey, sock tan lines just show how dedicated to the cause I am! 🐊

I totally agree with you !!! This town is failing! I first found Leavenworth 40 years ago, and it was truly magical for my children and myself. Now, I stay way clear from it. It is sadly ruined now. And I too will not support it. It has become greedy money making people, and erroneously over crowded rude city slickers.
