Thanks. I try. 🙂 I hope the series gets better... It will likely "feel" better when it can be binged over a few hours, but it's not working well as a 30 minute weekly episode.

I actually feel a little better about the film since it’s a tighter structure and they traditionally put more attention to detail into their theatrical releases.

We learn so much, In the subtlety and nuance of development as Osha and Mae swop quasi-masters and are now by the side of Qirmir and Sol as they all journey. I loved it. Seeing, considering how messed up Sol must be, not just after loosing a team but about it all, what foulness has blighted him, Mae and Osha, the team of the time and now Yourd and this team, Brendon, so many killed, juxtaposed with how clear, calm and warm Qimir is. Dangerously warm, attractive, charming, like the dark side... Seductive.
    How he touches her arm.
The swim, vulnerability, naked, omg the scars!!! On the back, whipped.
    His fitness, his strength.
The metaphorical washing of inequities, the opportunity to kill Qimir not taken, The levered honesty, pupil and master, not Jedi and Padawan, the light robes, the care, another opportunity offered, like King Richard III!
You saw Vernestra use her light sabre whip, (that is her weapon) and then to see the scars on Qimirs back, did you not immediately wondered if he was her padawan and if she whipped him, and crikey, that is heavy stuff. I knew Vernestra had a whip light sabre, was that too quick a scene, too subtle, easily missed. When I saw the scars, I was like, holy cow, that's serious, on so many levels.
Sol has to force Mae to listen, once he is told who she is, how far has he strayed to miss that, or did he want to hug Mae. . . while Qimir offers Osha so many opportunities and choices, swim for the ship, to kill him, she can walk away.
The failings and failure of the Jedi are clearly set out, are they transparent?
It's clear we are at a time where there is a true arrogance, and their abilities unhoned for both battle and being at one and seeking, feeling the force. They have lost their way.
The aspect of the cortosis helmet is ace, there is power to Helmits that are masks in Star Wars, the open face Helmits of the troops on the Tantive IV against the stormtroopers.
Vader. Kylo Ren. The Knights of Ren.
The power of the mask. Fear. And here we have a Helm with the ability to short out kyber crystals, to deflect blows, to hide thoughts, and as Osha lowers the helmet, into a darkness, we see light through the eye slits, narrowing, sharpening, focussing her perspective, as she consciously choses to place the helmit on, choosing, the steady breathing, reminiscent of Vader, it's not the same amount of breaths from the meditation scene in Empire as his helmet lowers, but damn, it resonates. The breathing.
I Liked the juxtaposition on the two pairs, I liked how we learn about Qimir, how Osha is challenged so much, how Mae still wants to kill Sol, I'd have liked more, longer episodes, sure, but is the story progressing, for me, absolutely.
Sol is traumatised but has it been brought on by himself, by corruption? It's great to see the given to trying to come to terms with the past and face it. Or face a victim of it. Or is there more, is he complicit rather than the villain.
It's quite a jump you make about a new audience. I am impressed with Amandla and Manny especially, I don't really care whether the internet likes or doesn't like something I enjoy, before the internet, fans when asked about their favourite of the original trilogy that didn't say Empire was their favourite, experienced something similar, right?
I think new audiences can figure out what they like. There's easily a new star wars product, every day.
I would love to hear what YA readers of the High Republic Vernestra stories think, did they always see a dark side to her?
Were they horrified in the moment that we saw whip scars... Or is that a misdirection.

Hi James! You make some good points, and you are right that the story is progressing a bit. However, I really do think that they are flattening the episodes too much. Learning little bits of information is one thing, but there hasn't been a fulfilling arc in any episode except for the one that featured Osha and Mae as children. Even if they kept the scenes that we've seen so far without solving for any of the other issues in the series, they could have restructured the 6 episodes into 4-5 episodes that were meatier / stronger with actual story arcs within each episode that setup a conflict and then provided resolution and payoff to the conflicts.
With episode 6, we are now 6 episodes in with Sol (who I really love as a character) looking weak and ineffective in his ability to communicate with either Osha or Mae. He's had so much time to at least start the conversation, but never does.
We also learn in episode 5 that Qimir says the Cortosis helmet can keep Sol from sensing his thoughts. The helmet's properties also eliminate outside distractions to give focus. If you think about it, he just basically told us that the helmet blocks the force. The metal either blocks the force or it doesn't. He has is on to protect his mind from the Jedi. That doesn't quite line up with cannon, but if we go with that description from the episode.... he could not use the force while wearing the helmet, and yet he does. So, they made the helmet, which is cool, into an object that makes no sense.
I did just realize from your comment that the marks on Qimir's back do look like whip marks, and I do think the green Jedi master is likely Qimir's old master. One of my complaints was that the scars couldn't have been from a saber because they weren't straight lines. Her saber is actually a whip. So, it's likely that she did inflict those wounds on him, but how likely is it that she could do so many cuts and just keep them surface level enough to go up and down and across the length of his back without cutting his ribs and spine. The logic just doesn't make sense.
As for Osha, I find her the most interesting of the two sisters, but given what we know of her to-date, I believe she would have swam out to the ship or at least tried. In fact, she should have tried and nearly drowned. It would have given Qimir the opportunity to save her life a second time. It was the perfect set up for that conflict and resolution to build energy and tension between them.... and I think that it had to have been in the script.... and that it was cut. Instead we just get the high points in the story that are the payoff moments, but they aren't paying off any moments... so it all feels easy and flat.
There are so many moments like this that just keep piling up. I want to love this story. It has or had so much potential, but the more I see of it, the more I see short cuts in the storytelling that undermine the tension and conflict that should exist between characters. It's disappointing... even 5-10 minutes extra per episode would solve some of these problems. 😞

@@ErinUnderwood I think you definitely analyse and consider the show very differently than I do, I don't think the technical aspects that you like, or woudl like, especially in regard to stroy telling, are aspects that even, well, impact upon my viewing as I do not at all feel it is going slow. Or is flat. This was a dialogue heavy episode, and I liked that, last one, was a lot of action. Liked that too.
Force users are incredibly powerful, and one can see that in the difference between force choke and force strangle to death. So I would expect Vernestra, a Jedi Master to be easily able to control her Light Sabre Whip, skilled whip users can do that anyhow, so it is not illogical at all to me.
Of course, Vernestra could be miss direction, it could be Darth Pleagueis, who was also Palpatine's master, and in other stories, iirc made use of cortosis. So, maybe.

Well considering that the “skilled light saber whip” user, Vernestra (aka: Leslye Headlend’s wife) gets a woozy tummy when traveling in hyperspace…….. (known because of a horribly written script)……. Ironically she is a “skilled whip user” with the Force but can’t use to force to skillfully avoid a tummy ache……… make a long story short…….. this script is a horribly written mess and probably the worst I’ve ever seen or read……. And I’ve read a lot of them……🤨

Ohhhh and please enlighten us as to when and in what “stories” does Darth Plagueis use a Cortosis anything????………
I’m curious or are you just making this up as you go along?………. 😉
