I am Irish crocheting my handfast dress. I have a dress on a dress form and laying out the motifs on top. What are some tips for doing the infill without taking everything off the form? If doing it that way isn't possible; what can I do to make sure it maintains the shape I want?
I would make a background cloth and make a copy of the dress or area you want to cover and stitch the motifs onto that , make the infill and then sew it onto the dress. It will keep the dress pristine and clean and you will be able to work on the flat. You will have a piece of lace that is independent from the dress and can be cleaned and pressed separately.i hope this helps
there are 2 ways of working this. If you are making a piece you'd make the edges first and use that as your beginning row but if you are making just the background, you make the chain as wide as you want the piece to be.
The size will be determined by the size of thread and hook used. It's much smaller using no 80 thread and a .60 mm hook. It's mainly used as background to Irish crochet motifs
