    I'm so very pleased that I finally found these instructions! I taught myself how to crochet and didn't know the correct terminology to help my search, so it took me all night to get here. This is such a good tutorial, thank you so much! One step closer to getting to the Irish Lace cape of my dreams - one day :)

    Thank you for making this video!
    I must tell you though as a proud native, the stitch you mentioned is called a Clones knot, pronounced "Clone-Iss", from the town in county Monaghan. My grandmother was a lacemaker for her aunt's lace business (based in nearby Derrylin, county Fermanagh) since she was five. Sadly I didn't get to learn directly from her, but she worked extensively with Clones lace authority Máire Treanor and in turn I learned a lot from her -- especially Clones knots. 😁

    Thank you so much for sharing your expert knowledge. I have attempted this kind background filling in a few times and have just laughed at myself for not realizing that I could use trebles and dcs to move around more easily. I really should have known that.

    I love your tutorials! I'm about ready to learn how to do the background, and I have a question - are you using a thinner thread for the background? (BTW I'm left handed too so I know the struggle of converting crochet patterns!)

    • @master_diemos
      @master_diemos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Umm “NaNa” 'Salama the infill thread looks like a size 30 and the hook would most likely be a 1.00mm

      You need to ask a tailor to make a pattern on plain panel of textile...that will be your base

    hello it was a very clear and helpful Video, thanks for sharing. I hope you don't mind me asking. You connect it but Motiffs are all on wrong sides, why?

    • @allieg6401
      @allieg6401 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering that too, maybe so when you do the joins for the stitches that are hidden because she comes from behind when she does the stitches, but could just be because shes left handed? dont know.

    • @two-headeddogproductions5890
      @two-headeddogproductions5890 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many do it on the reverse side so the connections are hidden and you can weave in your ends so as not to be seen. Particularly when you are working with different colors, you don't want the places where the background connects to be so visible. Also, she mentions that she grabs the underside of the rose because grabbing the top will pull at it and cause it to be misshapen. When working with multiple layers, you'd want the background to connect to the very bottom layer so as to not flatten it out as well, which is easier to grab from the underside. Hope this helps!

    What size/material thread are you using to crochet? Is it regular cotton crochet thread found in sizes 10, 20, & 30?

    • @lacefromireland
      @lacefromireland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cotton thread is graded by size of thread. The thinner the thread the higher the number. This pattern can be done in any size thread but usually this type of Lace is made in sizes 30 to 100. So very fine. As you become more accustomed to Lace making you can start using the finer threads. I would normally do the background with no 80 thread using a .60mm hook.this video was made to show the technique. I hope this helps

    very interesting to watch! I think that i can do this will prob practice with regular yarn.
    Was very helpful to know about your 7 chain guide line. it was a little odd to watch a leftie in some places as it just looked awkward but it was well presented.
    Thanks a bunch for a great video!!
