Sea Fishing After Work: Nice Few Hours And A Fantastic Sight!

- St Brides Sea Fishing has always been a part of my life and I've probably fished here more times than any other Bristol Channel Sea Fishing mark, more times than any other Newport Sea Fishing mark! Situated on the Severn Estuary, this spot has a special place in my heart. Many great memories and the wildlife is always on top form. Talk about fishing and mental health, spending a few hours here can do wonders for the mind, it usually does the trick! Over the years I have caught many species here, including Cod, Spring Codling, Whiting, Pouting, Flounder, Sole, Rockling, Conger Eel, Silver Eel, Thornback Ray and Bass.

Yes it was a great sight Paul and funnily enough, I spotted a pod of 4 Porpoise down at Goldcliff a few days ago, I was walking along the seawall. Two sightings in two weeks! Cheers for watching, much appreciated 👍

Am over from Ireland this weekend with my wife , her first time over since her stroke.
We visited the Marconi Village down at Lavernock to see old friends as we had a chalet down there before we moved to Ireland .On the cliff path towards Sully Island there is a bench which overlooks Flat Holm. I scattered my Dad's ashes there. I talked to him for a while whilst staring out on the channel . I asked him to help our four week old granddaughter who is struggling at the moment. He will.

another "CHILL OUT" fishing trip yep it is not always about the catch it def is about the prep and expectation of enjoyment and losing yourself in the moment . yes gareth those congers/rays save the blank and allow us to wallow in our success of a job well done when sitting home by that warm fire with our family . The bristol channel offers so much scenery and challenges and moving down the coast 60 miles or so our thirst for macky and clearwater bass tactics are fullfilled we are so blessed and you are right fishing has become more of a challenge than it used to be for many reasons but that makes those success much more satisfying . keep those vids coming gareth TIGHT LINES

I just enjoy spending a few hours next to the water, at picturesque locations. This particular evening was beautiful, the sunset, the wildlife and of course the Porpoise. That's it, the fishing locally is very hard work these days, it was easy when I was a kid but these places continue to lure me back as they're special to me. Many years ago, I had the pleasure of living in Peterstone Wentloog and you are absolutely spot on when you talk about the wildlife and sounds down at the channel. That mud is an incredibly rich ecosystem and draws the bird life in from hundreds of miles away in Autumn/ Winter. Loved watching this video, just reminds me of time spent with my black labrador just chilling out on the sea wall and taking it all in. Many thanks for your great camera work Gareth, the fish are just a bonus👍

Used to go down there with my cousin who lived near Marshfield in the 1970’s with our air rifles. We would roam around all day, different times. Nice to see the reens still there. Lovely vid Gareth.

You do get to see & hear some incredible sounds/ sights.

Nice Conger to break the blank. That Dolphin was probably feeding on the fish you should of been catching. Back in the early nineties down Redwick I used to catch loads of Conger. Unfortunately the numbers have definitely dwindled over the years. Thanks for the upload. Always a pleasure to watch your perfectly crafted videos.

This section of coastline while rather bleak has a beauty all of its own. You capture that atmosphere really well Gareth. As a fisherman I know what I want to see in your videos and the fish keep popping up. Even without fish I still love the videos. I am hoping to get down to Brixham next week...stock up on some baitfish maybe. All the best.
Yes I'd agree with you there Paul, the bleakness is quite magical and the wildlife is always on good form. I caught far more fish when I was 10 years of age than I do now but I still enjoy spending a few hours on the mud, it always lures me back. Two years ago fishing the transporter bridge I watched a porpoise head up on the flood it came back down later on the ebb. We used to see the occasional, along with salmon, many years ago when we had our boat on the river. Its good to see at least the porpoises are still around.
Ah right, so they even go up the Usk then, that's interesting. Like yourself, I used to see a lot of salmon jumping near the transporter bridge but not so many nowadays. I've actually just got in, I had a quick pleasure session down at the Pink House near Goldcliff and a pod of 4 Porpoise were about 70 yards out, they were swiftly heading up the Estuary! Seems that there's quite a few about at the moment. Thanks David 👍

Nice conger too! 😁 The rip tide you mentioned reminded me of fishing Dover’s Admiralty Pier at high tide and 8oz was needed to even try and hold bottom! 20 odd years ago I was working near Goldcliff so went for a walk along the sea wall during my lunch break and sadly came across a dead porpoise washed up by the base of the wall.
It was about 6 or 7 feet long from memory.
Who knows what else is swimming out in the channel.

Great video Gareth it is therapy I marked off my first year of fishing with my first small eyed ray it was my first double figure 10lb11oz down the knap last Thursday and haven't stopped smiling since and it was something I was targeting which I haven't done till recently being new to fishing 😊

Nice fish, if you are ever in NYC the striped bass are chomping and if you're around for the spring or fall run there's a couple of brits who'll put toy on the fish. 8 fish to 30lb last week from the shore!
