Your collections of French ephemera are so interesting to see. I'm intrigued by the medals collected and pinned to clothes as protection--would that be almost like saying a prayer every time you heard them jingle together or you touched them? Fascinating.
They are! And while I am not big on adding charms to my art journals and handmade books, these do make a cool, swing-y element to the cover of an altered prayer book. It they don't all sell that is where they will end up. I'll be sure and show that in action as and when!
Wow! What a glorious haul, Kelly. I envy all of your dreamy acquisitions. It was great to hear your plans for some of your bits & bobs. Thanks for sharing. 👏👏👏😎
Kelly these are amazingly beautiful! But I especially love The Lords Prayer booklet! Any chance it’s still available? Loving binging these older videos!
Hi Linda. That is actually a piece I am keeping for the permanent Kelly Boler collection BUT I do have a digital printable version. Can I email it to you?
Love all your fabulous finds, love looking through what treasures you find . The age of the items and the history they each hold and the detail and quality of them also . Thankyou for sharing xx
If brocante shopping was an Olympic sport you'd be a serial gold medal winner Kelly! The tiny book of cautionary tales is especially adorable. And while I can totally understand that the huge ledger was a justifiable addition to your luggage I do have some sympathy for your husband having struggled to pack all the vinyl LPs etc that Gordon bought when we were in UK, France and Spain recently - yes - including Swansea!! ;)
Ha. The record albums. Too right! But if you sympathise with Gabriel I have to say that I can cut Gordon some slack: you gotta get that stuff where you can get it, then make it work. 😺
Thanks! For sharing Kelly everything is beautiful. My favorite was the cardboard books and the religious cards. My mom’s sisters still collect those and also have lots of rosaries. I am Catholic & the only sacrifice I can think of is giving up anything you love or enjoy for a certain period of time like during lent.
Thank you for sharing! I totally forgot that I have my father's St Christopher dashboard medal - seeing yours brought back some good memories. The triptych shrine was beyond amazing. Lucky you for finding that treasure!
Best. Haul. Ever. I loved your vids when you repurposed the Italian bank book, so I particularly look forward to seeing how you do your next notebook! Dinner’s overcooked but who cares…best TH-cam viewing all week! Xx
Why Sandra, this comment made me laugh but feel grateful at the same time. Thanks for this - I almost deleted the thing because it was over 40 minutes long and that doesn't get views and then I thought - tough, if it gets 40 views those 40 will be the ones who love gaping over old, beautiful paper while dinner dries out. Thanks for this and proving this to be the case. Kelly
Hi Linda. You can use these without a printer. Simply download them to your phone/photos or a thumb drive and then take it to an office supply store or big box store or any place that does printing. They can make copies for you easy easy. Or ask a friend with a printer - you can send her the files and in exchange make her some cookies or some art. Hope this helps! Kelly
Thank you for sharing these precious finds. Very interesting…and beautiful. I’ve always been drawn to the French religious pieces, too. So hard to find here in Oregon! Makes it more precious!
Wow my creative friend, you certainly hit the big mother load on this past trip!! Such goodies you brought home, and I can see why the hubs, wasn't thrilled with your one suitcase that weighed 30 lbs. plus, from the great big ledger book! I L O V E D that marriage license/certificate, that was entirely hand written and gigantic! Who was the poor sap who got to do all that hand writing? I know, I'd be so nervous that I'd screw up the second to last line on the page! Man, they just put sooooo much detail and hard work into all these older pieces. Those lacy cards pushed me over the top. As always, thank you so much for sharing all of these with us Kelly! Can't wait to see what you do with many of these goodies! :)
I love your method for altering books. I did try making one, and was very happy with the result. Thanks, for being so encouraging, and sharing your talent.
The bag is interesting. The U with circle around means kosher... I looked up different grocers in France the U has many different stores. Perhaps they sell kosher foods? I don’t know. But the ephemera, bag included... is all so very interesting. The sweet little triple booklets in a box... look like treasure! All the different booklets are so nice. I have watched past videos of yours where you altered the Altoid tin...and they are nice little curiosities. Would love to be entered in your drawing for the bag... would love even more to win! Good luck to all of you!
Hi Miss Patricia, you are indeed entered for Friday's drawing. Now, in France U is just the name of a supermarket chain. A little on the downmarket side but they do have great carrier bags. I bought a bunch for my friends - great souvenirs that don't weigh much. Thanks for touching base! Kelly
I get it, Kelly! I do. I love your ledger. Well, I absolutely LOVE everything you bought!! I was glued to your video and kinda sad when it was over. I collect small vintage and antique Bibles, rosaries, and religious metals, so this video was heavenly!
I love everything you have found!!! I am catholic and love all of the religious items youve found. They all look like they are in such good shape. I didnt see this video in time to get i to the drawing which makes me sad. But its ok i will be going to your website and looking at your ephemeera packages which i am very interested in. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful items youve found!! Looking forward to your next video!!
Love the protection pins, I use vintage jewelry and make charm necklaces, how lucky to find them.. would love to vintage shop in France… a girl can dream… thanks for all you share
Kelly: what a fabulous collection of religious articles. I was absolutely mesmerized. Being Catholic, it even intrigued me more. Some of those things I knew about, but several were unknown to me,- like the baby crucifix with the Angel on it. That was really something. Carol from California
Hi Kelly, I love everything you found in France! And the shopping bag from Super U is amazing! Would love to win this for sure!! Thanks also for all your free scans😍
Oh this is such a lovely video of awesome epherma and that U bag is so beautiful. Love the color. And designs. On it. ❤❤❤ entered for blog i guess that is enetered to for your giveaway. If not. Lmk. ❤ ty have a lovely crafty day. ❤❤❤ Those books are so stunning.
My grandfather had a St. Christopher, that was a kind of magnet, in his car. It had his name and you could also put a photo near the saint. And he had my photo. I didn’t get to keep it, for unfortunate reasons. My father also had the saint in his car, but after he got together with my stepmother, he stopped having it. I’m a catholic, but I’m not a person who owns images of saints (except a few that belonged to my mother), however it was a beautiful and touching tradition. And I still have the guardian angel that hanged from my crib. When I had my first bed, my mother put the guardian angel on it (on the “board” that’s on our head direction, I’m sorry I don’t really know the name in English, but I think you know what I mean) and I’ve always kept it in my bed till this day. It’s a wonderful memory from my mother. It’s really old (53 years old, my age) it’s made of fabric, but I can’t wash it anymore because it would fall apart 💙💜🧡🩷♥️🩵💚🤎💛🩶❤️
You mentioned that your carte de visit photos don't seem to scan well. I found the same when I was trying to scan some old photos of mine. Instead, I used my phone and took photos of the photos, and that seemed to recreate better copies. Maybe a little more work, but give it a try!
Hi Lynn. Most books prior to 1840s had rag content. You can tell by the feel - it should feel a bit like cotton. Also it is a little lumpier, not perfectly smooth. You are welcome to send me a photo via email if you like and I can have a guess. Kelly
I do! Try vodka. Get the cheapest kind and put it in a spray mister then lay the cards out flat and spritz the heck out of them. Turn them over and repeat. Because it is a spirit it will evaporate and not stain the cards. You may need to do it a few times, letting it dry then testing then spritzing again. I use this for books and paper with mildew and it works a treat. Keep me posted!
Hi there. I'm sorry for the delay. Now, I have an HP Envy combo ink jet printer and scanner. It actually was not expensive and I use the HP ink scheme that saves money, as well. The scanner is solid and I use it all of the time. The funny things is that printers and scanners get better and cheaper all the time. I hope this helps. Keep me posted!

Okay now, I just told my husband I have to go shopping. He said where are you going? France, I said, France. 😂
Say when, Lisa Rose. And be sure and bring an extra suitcase. 😺

Question How do you know if a book has rag paper?
Hi Lynn. Most books prior to 1840s had rag content. You can tell by the feel - it should feel a bit like cotton. Also it is a little lumpier, not perfectly smooth. You are welcome to send me a photo via email if you like and I can have a guess. Kelly
My Catholic friend told me about collecting those protective pins. Her mother pinned hers to her undershirt!
I have some cigarette cards I purchased but they reek of tobacco! Any ideas on how to de-stink them?
I do!
@ awesome, I’ll try that! Have a great day!
What an amazing collection you have! Also, and totally unrelated… you have the most calming voice. You should narrate or do voice work!
Anyone who cannot appreciate vintage paper/writing, cannot be of this world!
Sure is "the good stuff ". The animals!!!!
Kelly what scanner do you use? Im shopping for one currently! =) thanks in advance!
