    You've probably already heard this , but that 5200 is one of the first ones. They had all kinds of problems and died a lot. My friend bought one and it was dead in less than a week. He took it back to Sears and they gave him a new one that got rid of the weird auto-switch and only had two controller ports. It never broke down. I still have it. I also bought one new and still have it too. The controllers were OK for about 6 or 7 years, but eventually the side fire buttons started having problems. I modified a couple of mine by putting micro-switches in each side. That worked great.

    Owned a 2 port 5200 back in the Day. The version I had used a standard power brick and a standard rf adapter. The Hole beside the Channel 3/4 Switch was actually where the power Brick plugged in to on the newer models and the wire in the bottom plugged directly in to the tv with the same TV/Game slider switch systems like the intellivision used. My 5200 was pretty trustworthy. Never had many issues with it and my controllers held up relatively well. I think we had it 2 years or so before the first controller broke. Good luck on the repair!

      Sadly mine didn't last a week before it wouldn't power on. Atari tried.... I'll give them that much. Returned it and picked up a Commodore Vic-20 if memory serves.

    bought a gameboy game last year which had 6 missing contacts.
    I was able to glue some Pins onto the board using epoxy (preferably heat resistant one, but normal epoxy works just as well )
    and solder them to the circuit. Worked out ever since for me.

    The Atari 5200 is basically an Atari 400 with simplified boot up OS. Its games can be run on Atari 8-bit computers though the programs need modified for joystick input because of the 5200 controllers.
    The 5200 was the first game console with an auto switching RF box. You can modify a 2600 to use it.
    Best Electronics in California might be able to help with controller issues.

  • @KISSbestfan
    @KISSbestfan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ive never played the 5200, as well as the PC Engine. In the 90s there were lots of the Family Computer clones around here, plus Atari 2600 ones, but thats pretty much it. Plus there wasnt any official distribution, so you could only buy one imported privately, and those were really expensive. This is why computers have been an object of bigger interest ever since. C64 mainly, as those used audio tapes, but also the Atari 800, ZX Spectrum, and some guys had Amstrads. Since a few years this is slowly changing, because major brands had hit the market and its no longer a problem to buy a console.

    Excellent mail day!!! Looking forward to seeing you crack the 5200 open! You want a great game computer, try to get an Atari 800 XL or Atari 130 XE computer and some carts for it. The games and sound are great! You could also get disk based games, but now it's easier to load them through memory cards! The Atari 800 is what a lot of people like because it had 4 joystick ports, but it's HUGE and didn't come with BASIC.

    Game bit/security bit drivers for those old carts can do wonders...they are so worth their money. So much crud can accumulate inside mishandled carts it's not even funny.. Also, keep some really fine grit sandpaper for really troublesome carts, used gently, it can help bring back some really badly worn contacts. You going to show us attempting to fix the Conker carts?

      Hard to say with the snes. Unfortunately a common issue with the snes is a dead cpu or ppu, and replacement chips aren't available so they have to be removed from another board. I don't have a test unit to diagnose chip issues yet, so i wouldn't be able to do much. I generally don't bother with bad SNES systems unless it's a no power issue.

    If you can get bonkers bad fur day for $90 in America that's amazing I seen a unboxed copy in a shop in Liverpool for £400 a few moths back

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's crazy. I don't think Nintendo did nearly as well in pal regions, so im guessing a rarer late release like that is actually quite hard to find. There aren't alot of really expensive n64 games in North America, only a couple worth more than like $150

    • @R0G3RZ87
      @R0G3RZ87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep anything retro and nintendo are extremely collectable clay fighter, star craft 64 and Mario party2 will fetch around £100-250 depending on condition and as for the consoles anything other than the grey console starts at £100 so I hydrodipped mine

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang, i recently picked up starcraft for $20 locally. It's still about a $60 game, but not nearly that bad.
      Clayfigters sculpters cut, worms Armageddon, bomberman the second attack and international superstar soccer are some of the only really expensive titles for the system. ($150+) its a good console to collect for as they didn't make that many games either, reasonable to get a full set.

    • @R0G3RZ87
      @R0G3RZ87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only one on that list that is cheap here is ISS get that for about £5 with England being a footballing nation they probably made alot of copies but I agree n64 is a good console to collect for as it is a tough console and there's many still around it will take me years to finish but heck I get a nostalgia kick and can't wait to have the whole set

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iss was just rare and a late release. Sports games are usually worthless here, so this is certainly an odd exception.
