A very nice bowl. The profile is quite elegant. I really like the pattern that the drawer liner left behind. I am looking forward to getting some Hampshire Sheen here in Canada. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for posting the video.

I love the shape of this piece!
Started watching woodturning videos because they're so relaxing!
But now, I'm going to spend a day next week trying it for myself! Very excited and very grateful to yourself and several other youtubers for inspiring me.

Thank you, Martin, for another great upload. Your artistic flair continually shows through.
I agree with Mike below in that the pith adds to the project as it shows you've worked on a product of Mother Nature.
    Best wishes,
    Alan.

Hi Martin, I really like your new creations, both your New Hampshire Sheen and your Bowl. The effect looks a lot like what carvers use when they carve Fish lures to get the effect of fish scales! But they go heavy on the colour of scales.
Brilliant work mate, I've been trying out my new lathe and tools over the day or two, hmmm not as easy as You make it look. And aren't the Catches something else lol. Take care mate.
    Cheers
    Andy

Great looking piece Martin. Seen similar things done on cars where they used lace to provide the pattern. That new finish looks great also.
    Martin.

That is one beautiful piece Martin. Really good walk through on the method you used to achieve this excellent end result. I personally think the pith gives a little extra character. ...but that's just me :).
    Take care

Excellent video very inspirational as always. Just a thought for one of your camera angles, the camera above your lathe looking back towards the tail stock. Turn the orientation from landscape to portrait. That way we can see both you and the piece you are working on. Not just your head in the bottom of the frame with the rest filled with the roof and shelving of your workshop. Keep up the excellent work

You've managed a beautiful effect, and once again you've got me turned on to air brushing... alas, I'll need to wait. But hey, it just means some good things will come, or so I've heard it said before :) On a different note, love the new styling, looking man, almost good enough for print ;)

Martin just watched your video! And really enjoyed it. I just wish I could get some lighter coloured timbers such as sycamore here in Western Australia . I agree with Mike Waldt a simple and beautiful piece Thank you MartinCol

+Martin Saban-Smith Hello Martin thanks for reply . Well yes here in WA there are some lighter timbers such as "Marri" which is becoming very popular in furniture making as well and we do have an abundance of beautiful timbers not to mention Jarrah and Sheoak but it is very hard to get nice white woods to colour stain such as sycamore, Ash, etc. We do get some imported timbers but the import restrictions here are very strict.
I have enjoyed your use of colour and texture in your videos
      Kind Regards Col

Hi Martin, great tutorial, What acrylic sanding sealer do you use???

  • @scottyhighlander6321

Try TAK rags after the final clean up before coating with a finish.Paper towels tend to leave a dusty microscopic residue and also prevent oils from you fingers possibly contaminating the finish,Great concept with well explained processes . Agree about plain rather than grain for colouring stuff which tend to detract from the final overall 'look'

Hi Martin very nice bowl like the texture finish on it! Have you ever thought of using a piece of net curtain to give you a pattern there are lots of different ones out there just a thought.
    Thanks for Sharing.

Enjoyed the video, new to airbrushing and always appreciate learning more. I do have a question(s) about the sanding sealer you used.......is that water based or cellulose, does it require thinning, and did you apply it with an airbrush, paint sprayer, or is it available in a spray can? Thanks, and keep the videos coming...........

    • @msabansmith
      @msabansmith  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Bill. The sealer used in this video was acrylic because the stains were spirit based. Now I usually use water based dyes so use a cellulose sealer.

Hi Martin, bowl looks stunning & just an observation not a criticism I agree with Ian regards the camera angles. It would be better to see what you are doing. The design reminded me of custom vehicle paintwork I used to do using lace & ladies fishnet stockings for fish scales.
Keep them coming, oh & I love the inclusions being left in. I thought you might have called it ; Taking the pith but maybe that's not exactly PC !!!

Martin, have you ever thought of using other woods to color a piece that really has no color in it. I saw a video that the demonstrator used Kokobolo (i don't know how to spell it) to color some texture. I immediately thought of you. This may be something you might be interested in.
