One of the best lines, for sure. Not even that genius of a lyric, but (much like the whole song) the words, cadence and chords bring out the best in each other, no doubt.

Lol reminds me of that scene with popo and bulma in DBZ abridged, "oh the ship is voice controlled?" "POPOOOOO" The ship yeets backs to earth in seconds "No it just knows better"
I figure foot controls. That could have been an interesting idea for the character, where his arms are paralyzed, so he does everything with his feet. That would have been why the drummer-bot waved to him, the drummer-bot was his hands back at the base. Unfortunately, his arms moved in the scene where everyone was getting in their ships
@qwertysub2038 They wanted to make Starlight Brigade into a full series. They had a few close calls, but studios turned them down so they don't have hopes it would be made. In away this music video was like a pilot episode. I hope people like them come to realize you don't need to deal with a big Studio that will easily shoot down a series because we have ____ all ready. If people online click with it enough, crowd fund it.
@@AlkseeyaKCOh man that’s devastating. As much as I would also want them to go without the need for a big studio it’s quite hard to accomplish that as well. They probably needed a lot more people and a bigger budget which is hard to get with only the 8 of them that worked on this music video. I have to wonder though, did they ever reach out to Adult Swim? I do remember that channel showcasing this music video a couple of years back?
It has a beginning, and an end I don't see what a whole show could do out of this though the concepts and art style would be nice to see together again

Why in the seven hells of Washington D.C. was this never made into a series from 1984 to 1987, ending with an unsatisfactory cliffhanger, a movie in 1989 with an epic soundtrack that answers nothing, and a revival film in 2008 that didn't capture the feel of the original, only for the Fandom to make an earth-shattering free-to-view movie in 2012 that's entirely computer-graphic'd but with the appearance of proper cell shaded animation, and the surviving voices of the original cast, minus two who tragically passed away already?
the only aspect you're forgetting is when they did the fanmade movie one of the voice actors no longer sounds like the character anymore and people complained about it online for a few years but then everyone came to sympathize and respect a dedication to carry on working despite no longer having the voice and people start defending it instead.
So like, when Arin sings with NSP, together they are just Starbomb. So now when NSP and TWRP perform together, can we just call them The Great Starlight Brigade now?
It feels like I watched an entire series, fully understand every detail, and it tied off all loose ends and ended perfectly. All while never knowning a single characters name, and in 1/100th of the time

A youthful main character who never gives up ✓ Weird geometric aliens that steal the stars from the sky ✓ Epic space wars ✓ An amazing final battle in space ✓ I can see Studio Trigger making this into an anime.
ZenithKnight true...but they were also the mastermind behind KILL LA KILL and Little Witch Academia, so despite that screw-up I’m sure they figured out what not to do next time they make a series. Not only that KILL LA KILL’s getting a game called KILL LA KILL:IF and so far it looks f$%king amazing!! (Though I guess that isn’t that relevant to this conversation in the first place)
This feels like best cartoon I've ever watched growing up that never was. I like how everyone seems to agree that this could be an amazing show... or even a movie. Edit: It just occurred to me, this heavily reminds me of The Last Star Fighter, an old 80's movie.
SOMEONE REMEMBERS THE LAST STARFIGHTER?! My dad showed me that movie when I was younger and I still consider it my favorite movie of all time. Just so many tropes and one liners I still go back to these days.
@@techticianlarsproductions6180 It's one of my all-time favourite movies too. I've even gotten to meet Lance Guest (Alex) and Catherine Mary Stewart (Maggie) at a convention.
Strive saves the universe by reaching for the stars - and this is the really important part - not by actually touching them. He only ever touches the stars in a dream/vision. It is the striving, in and of itself, that changes everything.
ravermunky1 It might be a bit of a stretch, but I suspect there was also inspiration taken from Daft Punk’s Discovery album/Interstella 5555. Cartoon animation - Sci-fi setting - Human-like aliens with blue skin - vocoder-like backup vocals at the end of the song that are very similar to those of Daft Punk (2:30)
Somewhat tempting to pull it up on my old laptop that has a TV-out socket and dub it to tape in all honesty. Then leave it somewhere to be found and confuse the absolute hell out of whoever finds and plays it.
DISCLAIMER: Not every meteorite contains a badass ship that takes you to an adventure full of starlight and introduces to you a colorful cast of pilot pals.
the amount of people doing the animating means little if time isn't an issue. It can make things turn out better overall sometimes because you have an inherently more unified vision of what you are working towards.
@@PixelaGames2000 start a project, complete it, analyze what mistakes or deficiencies your work has, and aim to have advanced a notable step with your next project. The old Madness flash series (which is still ongoing!) did exactly that. You can see a VERY clear progression in quality and effort between each video during the first ten or so. and even after the increase between vids drops off (or perhaps becomes more subtle) later vids continue to come up with new bits here and there that are clear to see. Story, sound, choreography, framerate, detail. You will definitely be able to reach this level with time and effort, but be sure to complete your projects to avoid a habit of leaving things undone.
I've realised the genius of this, and why so many people have the uncanny feeling it's like a pilot for an amazing show that only ever came to air in an alternative universe ... it's because it's cut like an AMV. And certainly myself and more than a few of us here will have consumed a good few of those and know the feeling caused by a perfectly edited meld of pivotal, highly emotionally charged, action packed (...or just humorous) scenes from an already beloved anime, and a killer piece of music that encapsulates the mood set by the visuals. And there's at least a couple of great shows, and a couple of great bands, that I've been introduced to through that medium, browsing through what people have made for one or the other, or just at random. And coming across this video evokes that emotional memory. So, maybe the show we've discovered through this virtual AMV isn't real, but at least the band is... (This came to me in the scene where they make the first attack and Strive's ship gets hit by a shot from the baddies; I had been playing the tune in the background whilst working, as is the way I normally have TH-cam music going, and just happened to close a tab such that this came to the front a little before that, and I therefore wasn't fully into the visual rhythm. It struck me that if it was an actual movie, or a scene from an episodic show, it would have all played out a _lot_ slower, with interstitial dialogue and moments of dramatic suspense. But as there was a need to both tell a certain chunk of the story within the limited time allowed by the music (yes, I know it's edited down as well due to the ironically appropriate budgetary constraints), and to keep to the beat, most of that was edited out in jumpcut fashion, retaining just the most important and memorable parts, bringing maybe a two minute segment down to... [spins back to check] ...approximately five seconds. Eight if you want to be generous. Which is VERY AMV-ish, particularly for anything that covers a large swath of or even the entirety of a 13-episode show or 90-minute film (never mind anything longer!) with fast paced music over the top. But then the star-chasing part and the renewing of their internal fire is arguably uncut from the "original"... Which again rather puts me in mind of an actual Nausicaa or maybe just multi-classic-Ghibli (looking at you Laputa) video that I once saw. Pick and choose what to spin through quick without actually cutting so you can include that slower moment in full. Kinda get the same feeling from the Rudo animated videos for Siamés' tunes too. Be fun to see a four-way collab between the two studios and two bands...)
i never noticed that, youre so right! even keeping in mind the time and budget constraints, i cant think of another animated music video ive seen that was cut like this, other than AMVs. everything feels like theres less breathing room, even the moments that are slower. it really does feel like something larger that had all the fat trimmed so only the most important and flashy stuff remained. its super cool, and honestly impressive they pulled it off so well without there being a preexisting show people already know, so they cant rely on fans already being familiar with the story, they have to land it on their own. its probably why they used such a familiar story structure (aside from it matching the lyrics), it makes it way easier for us to follow
Every time I come back to this I think "Surely it wasn't THAT amazing, I must be remembering it wrong." Then 4 minutes and 8 seconds later I have full body chills, tears on my face, and a hole in my wall where I punched it out of sheer joy.

“Halfway between the black and grey is no place for a life to waste away” and “Black knights and dark side battle cries all die once they’re in my line of sight” are a couple of the most awesome lines of lyrics I’ve ever heard. This song and video are both so amazingly good.
@@grahamcaldwell5492 Good luck with that. Even if you manage to get enough signatures to get TWRP, NSP, and KotLT on board, you'd need to find them major studio backing for it to happen (animation is super-expensive), and I just don't see that happening when that style of animation hasn't been popular in anime since the '80s *and* anime is still seen as primarily a niche genre. Don't get me wrong, I'd *love* to see it, but it's never gonna happen.

One of my favorite things in this video is that you barely got a glance at each character, but you got the entire personallity understood. The other 5 of the crew have so much personallity without uttering a single word. For example, at 1:40, the samurai ninja snake guy on the left draws out his knife. Such a tiny detail gives him so much more personallity, showing that he's keen and skilled, but also won't back down from a fight. Fantastic!
And does it _fast_ ... like I think it's basically one frame - no knife, next frame - possibly a flash of light or movement, third frame - knife. Plus whilst they're flying through the realm of pure _nothing_ at the heart of the enemy tetrahedron, that little bead of sweat ... showing that he can feel fear, or at least anxiety, just normally keeps it under perfect control. But this time a tiny bit leaked out... things must be really intense.
@@markpenrice6253 The only other time he has a little bead of sweat like that, and you have to look cause it goes by fast is when Strife's ship gets shot and starts falling.

It’s technically “no place for a life to waste away” since Dan is saying that sitting idly by doing nothing isn’t where he wants to be. That’s why the next line is “I’ll take the road with all the stakes”. Just thought I’d share as that makes the lines more impactful for me :)

@qwertysub2038 They wanted to make Starlight Brigade into a full series. They had a few close calls, but studios turned them down so they don't have hopes it would be made. I hope people like them come to realize you don't need to deal with a big Studio that will easily shoot down a series because we have ____ all ready. @@AlkseeyaKCOh man that’s devastating. As much as I would also want them to go without the need for a big studio it’s quite hard to accomplish that as well. When I look up at the sky, what meets my eyes?
Can I just stand by while the world dies?
(While the world dies)
A starship idling nearby, is it my time?
I crawl inside and turn the cockpit clockwise, toward the sunrise
I hear a voice in the back of my head
Screaming "this is suicide! Did you hear what I said?"
But then it fades into nothing with the rest of the light and sound
I'm on my way out!
Lift off!
The firestorm ignites
Last thoughts of a life by candlelight
Inside this speeding satellite
Today, so many moons away
I safely say
We stand as one
A bond beyond the vast wave, until the last grave
The mission orders typed and lights up our screens
Ignition flights
A thousand minds move simultaneously
Into the night a fleet of firelight jet engines scream
Turn the key
This is my destiny!
Last flight!
I'd gladly give my life for one night as a justice acolyte
Light shines only for the blind
Escape the endless dream of space, black seas that I can't navigate
Locate the great Starlight Brigade
Starlight within will guide us to the other side
Lift off!
The firestorm ignites
Last thoughts of a life by candlelight
Inside this speeding satellite
Halfway between the black and gray
Is no place for a life to waste away
I'll take the road with all the stakes (Starlight Brigade)
Black knights and dark side battlecries
All die once they're in my line of sight

The old Madness flash series (which is still ongoing!) did exactly that.
I dunno. It reminds me more of Daft Punk's Interstella.

"What do we do about those shields, sir, our weapons cant get through!" "All ships about face! Ramming speed!"
ironically, it seems the prisms's shields are made of glass to reflect laser beams or light weaponry. And did not do very well to projectiles XD
That kinda reminds me of those ships in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1
You see Ivan, when you ram into other ship, you no have to worry about flimsy shields
Ramming Speed!
We all know this is not your first time here. Welcome back.
Thank you
Nope! It's my 100th. And thank you!
Actually this is my first.
@@TrueLadyEvilChan Give it time....
Thank you
You know that feel when you only just find an amazing song on spotify, look it up on TH-cam, find the best anime you've ever seen, only to realise it's a goddamn music video?
That's how I feel right now.
*That's how I feel.*
That's rough, buddy.
ikr i fell asleep while listening to spotify it appears spotify decided to play this for me I remember hearing danny's voice in a magical vibe i realized it wasn't a nsp song then i fell asleep again when I woke up the first thing I did was searching for this song both spotify and TH-cam and boy. This song is really the only good thing 2020 gave me
Same
The exact same happened to me today. haha
thats what you get for using SPOOFY
They are actually pitching this as a show! We should try getting this up to 20 million vews, minimum. Maybe the stars will actually align and we'll get an actual show!
We need a full series!
No wait...
Two full series!
No wait...
6 Seasons and a MOVIE!
Your walking a slippery slope toward a live action version with miscast actors
Another Person yeah just keep it a season or mini series.
i wouldn't ask for too much right now, i'll be happy with ONE season, maybe just a short season like 10 episodes would be fine.
but with merch eventually :)
Ok but whatever they do. Can we just avoid identity politics. It just never ends well.
"Halfway between the black and gray is no place for the light to waste away" is fucking beautiful.
Yes! It's such a simple line but it's just *chef's kiss*
It’s technically “no place for a life to waste away” since Dan is saying that sitting idly by doing nothing isn’t where he wants to be. That’s why the next line is “I’ll take the road with all the stakes”. Just thought I’d share as that makes the lines more impactful for me :)
@@HEAVYMETALER589 No, it's light. The aliens stole all the stars.
@@Bacxaber I have the physical album, it comes with a booklet of lyrics, it’s life.
@@HEAVYMETALER589 This is a "I wrote it so it's ki-ma" situation, despite the undeniable fact that the audio is indeed "ch-ha".
How long until I can get a starlight brigade poster??
You can get a poster of anything as long as you don’t sell it
Find someone who has a poster printer and print out a high res screenshot from the video
they would be stupid not to sell an official poster of this. also i’d rather support them than make one myself
Hi TWRP - I would pay good money for a poster from this video as well. Like, a full size one, like a wall scroll size. Actually, how much for a wall scroll???
@@AislinKageno a full sized poster would be rockin
almost 5 and a half years ago this video came up here on youtube
5 and a half years of wishing it could have gotten an actual series about the starlight brigade and their fights with the darkships who were stealing the stars
man do i love this song
