    Government construction sucks ! There is this highway I take to my dads and they added a road for these two interstates to connect for the fast pass and it’s been 5 YEARS and they just finished. Keep in mind this bridge isn’t more then 30 feet off the ground and is only maybe a quarter mile long and one lane wide. I’m not a construction worker but that sounds slow to me!

      Judging by what you said i imagine it could be built in a week or two.

      The Empire State Building and took less than 2 years. So it taking 5 years to build a one-lane the short Road is ridiculous.

    when you watch interviews with Milton Friedman, you quickly realize that all John Stossel is basically doing is applying his sentences onto current events (and often even using the exact same wording he did.)

      @AmericaFirstMapping taxes disproportionally hurt minorities more since they are less likely to have income and tax advice to be able to effectively reduce their tax burden. There. Spread the word.

    What? Silicon Valley and Seattle are far away from Washington so they’re free to innovate? What the hell does that even mean? Federal regs aren’t like a nuclear blast emanating from DC. Regulations vary by state and California is swimming in regulations.
    I love Stossel but some of this stuff is just so sloppy. I wish he’d tighten it up a bit. Too many holes.

    There are certain things I think the government needs to regulate....such as high rise building codes. The past, and even today, it has been shown that contractors will give subpar materials if given them chance. No structures....no problem. Don't regulate it.

    • @anjiruhyure2080
      @anjiruhyure2080 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I partially disagree. If they really allow it to become a private business, NO business would dare cheap out and the companies that do use the best of the best will have their name out there and they'll blow up, building the best of the best buildings because they'll have to compete with other private construction companies that also want to be the most trusted for commissions. Maybe slight regulations would be alright, basic safety things and banning certain weak materials, but other than that I don't think the government should be involved in anything.

      Stossel has a video were he explains that health and safety among workers went up gradually over time, and regulations did NOT improve the rate of improvement.

    • @tallswede80
      @tallswede80 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you have to compete for workers, all conditions improve, because workers want safer conditions. But if the government prevents economic growth, companies don't have to compete for workers. Regulations only make things worse.

    I am 100% for government regulations, in regards to, common sense safety features and warnings ( if you do something most people would be considered stupid, you don't need a regulation, you need a friend to keep you from killing yourself from being stupid). reasonable restrictions on pollution, and anti-monopoly. Past that point regulations tend to be a matter of one group getting special protections from the government, or our insane culture of suing, because you yourself was stupid. As always I agree with some of what J.S. says, but not all. By the way, Stossel isn't a journalist, he is an opinionist who cherry picks what evidence he will or won't present. His decisions are made before any kind of "investigation". Which is common, but he isn't looking for "the truth".

    Watched the first 5 minutes, never heard so much BS.
    Comparing the Empire State Building to World Trade Centre is nonsense. For as start, the ESB was constructed on existing foundations of the old Waldorf-Astoria, while the World Trade Centre had to be built in a swamp. 70 feet down, beside a river, AND on top of a railway line.
