To be fair he went from zero to hundred in one fight. His most serious fight before Kaido was.. I don't know.. Either that one panel against Kyoshiro during Yasu's execution or few short clashes against fujitora. Pica was more of an stalling annoyence to him than real opponent, and Hordy was a joke, even then. This is first time Zoro has struggled in battle ever since timeskip.

This video makes me realize how when rayleigh said I was teaching you the basics he really meant the basics. Luffy couldn't get help with his devil fruit so he was on his own for that. However, since mihawk was a swordsmen zoro was not only getting haki but swordsmen tutelage so he was basically receiving the best of both worlds.
That is the point, luffy really needed fight with OP characters after time skip, to grow, zoro did not, couse he got perfect teacher that fits him. With sanji is kinda same, also powerup from suit helps

Zoro would not break a self imposed handicap even if he was going to die. I always imagined his scar was either self imposed for accepting help from Mihawk (his supposed enemy), or self imposed/ordered to remain shut by Mihawk until a certain condition was met which may well be the moment they clash again, or Mihawk is killed.

I didn't get around to watching this episode until right after i finished chapter 1010 and im beyond hyped as a zoro fan, Tekking had no idea what he was about to learn about our favorite swordsman
He is the best swordsman, that means he can defeat anyone in sword techniques. That doesn't mean he can tank her punches. Same goes for Shanks. Mihawk can defeat him in swords but that doesn't mean Shanks can't win in punching/kicking. We don't know if Shanks is a full swordsman or if he is better at physical battle.

In the chapter zoro has his eye closed only twice confirmed the other times it is covered or blacked out. One of them was when he standing still and the other was when he was coughing up blood.
I just had an idea: Onigashima is being flown to the flower Capital. What if Kaido is beaten when the Skull is already over the city? That would be a great way for Momo to redeem himself and have his own "Mountain God" moment by stopping the island from killing all of the residents.

Hands down, Zoro is the best and most developed character who managed to maintain his hype in One Piece.
That's why he's my favorite.

@@teriiyaki_god A backstory helps, but it isn't really necessary. In Zoro's case, his backstory explains his goal, his fighting style and one of his swords. Zoro has a few moments as vice-captain, which are iconic.

In the chapter zoro has his eye closed only twice confirmed the other times it is covered or blacked out. One of them was when he standing still and the other was when he was coughing up blood.
