- Deadpool & Wolverine has finally hit digital, which means its time for a movie commentary. Now, whilst I enjoy this film a lot, I do have to raise the question- is it actually a good movie?
Let's discuss...

Deadpool & Wolverine is a 2024 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Deadpool and Wolverine. Produced by Marvel Studios, Maximum Effort, and 21 Laps Entertainment, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). The film was directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay he wrote with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman respectively star as Wade Wilson / Deadpool and Logan / Wolverine, alongside Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Aaron Stanford, and Matthew Macfadyen. In the film, Deadpool learns that the Time Variance Authority is set to destroy his home universe and works with a reluctant Wolverine from another universe to stop them.
Development on a third Deadpool film began at 20th Century Fox by November 2016, but was placed on hold after the studio was acquired by Disney in March 2019. Control of the character and Fox's X-Men film series was transferred to Marvel Studios, which began developing a new film with Reynolds. It integrates Deadpool with the MCU and retains the R rating of the previous Deadpool films, a first for the MCU. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin joined in November 2020 as writers. Reese and Wernick returned from the previous films for rewrites by March 2022, when Levy was hired as director. They, along with Reynolds and Wells, had difficulty figuring out the film's story until Jackman decided to reprise his role as Wolverine from the X-Men films in August 2022. Several other actors from the X-Men films and other Marvel productions also returned as part of the film's multiverse story, which serves as a tribute to Fox's Marvel films. Filming began in May 2023 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional filming in Norfolk, Los Angeles, and at Bovingdon Film Studios. Production was suspended in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, but resumed in November and wrapped in January 2024. The title was revealed a month later. Rob Simonsen composed the original score, while numerous artists were compiled for the soundtrack.
Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 22, 2024, at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City, and was released across the United States on July 26 as part of Phase Five of the MCU. It has grossed over $1.33 billion worldwide, becoming the 20th-highest-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films produced by Marvel Studios. The films are based on characters that appear in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The franchise also includes television series, short films, digital series, and literature. The shared universe, much like the original Marvel Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.
Marvel Studios releases its films in groups called "Phases", with the first three phases collectively known as "The Infinity Saga" and the following three phases as "The Multiverse Saga". The first MCU film, Iron Man (2008), began Phase One which culminated in the 2012 crossover film The Avengers. Phase Two began with Iron Man 3 (2013) and concluded with Ant-Man (2015), while Phase Three began with Captain America: Civil War (2016) and concluded with Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). Black Widow (2021) is the first film in Phase Four, which concluded with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), while Phase Five began with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) and will conclude with Thunderbolts* (2025). Phase Six will begin with The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) and it will conclude with Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
I've posted this comment elsewhere, but it seemed appropriate for this video.
I love this movie. I'm a 42 year old man. I grew up watching the Fox universe form. I was in the theatre for Daredevil, Electra, Blade, Punisher, X-Men, all of em. This movie honors that journey. It gives us a payoff over 25 years in the making. Some people may have a gripe about Deadpool breaking the 4th wall being a cheap writing tool, but Ryan Reynolds uses his power for good in this case. Not only does he honor the comics by actually including as much legendary comic imagery for Wolverine as he does (the suit, the variants) and all the Deadpool variants, but by breaking the 4th wall he honors the behind the scenes journey us fans have taken with them. He points out (supposed) beef between him and Snipes. Beef between Affleck and Garner. The hope of Tatum to play Gambit. The way studios have mistreated Cavill. The way Fox dropped the ball on their franchises. The way Marvel has been in a slump. The way fans feel about the upcoming Blade movie. But most of all, the way that fans have been dying to see a classic comic book Wolverine since they started making these movies. There are literally too many nods to list. It reaches a level of intricate decades long fan service that may never be duplicated, and it does it in a way that honors the viewpoint of fans rather than ridiculing them. Sure, there is a hand in your face jangling keys, but below it, the other hand is reaching for a handshake to say thank you to us. This movie shows us that despite all the Hollywood bullshit out there, there's a few people on the inside who have taken this lifelong journey with us. It shows us there are still a few people making these movies that CARE...about US. It gives me hope that maybe the best isn't behind us. Thank you Ryan, Hugh, Cavill, Garner, Snipes, Tatum, Dafne, and everyone else who still believes in the power of comic books and good stories. Let's fuckin go!
@@robertcomeau6873 Well put
That movie was fantastic! Some of you should build a bridge to get over yourselves!
@@NonaOstrander Did you actually watch the video because I said I liked the movie... I'm literally cosplaying as Wolverine! Why would I do that if I didn't like the film?
@@HamzaBoujelouah That was to those that were attacking the film! No one forced them into watching it!
@@NonaOstrander Oh. Please don't take my comment as me attacking you 😂
You were very whiny throughout ,itputme off
It wasn't a good movie at all with long stretches of boring crap, consisting of 90% hype. Weakest Deadpool movie.
You didn't watch the movie did ya? What part of it was long and boring?
No
What makes you say that? Curious to hear your thoughts
@HamzaBoujelouah too me, it's very clear that this film was made during a writers strike. A lot of half baked ideas and much of the 2nd act could be cut (when there in that throwaway dimension, I can't remember the name). Or if you think that stuffs important then focus more on that and less on the other stuff. But, with the way the movie is they're fighting to antagonists that don't really have much to do with each other. If the writers were given more time to iron out the script it would have fixed a lot of my issue. But, to answer your question to me the film feels very disjointed.
(In all honesty, I didn't watch your video, I saw it on my feed and thought it was funny if I commented No.)
