"The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is a 2008 high fantasy film, produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media and directed by Andrew Adamson. The screenplay, co-written by Adamson, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, is based on the 1951 novel Prince Caspian, the second published and fourth chronological story in the children's book series The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis. The movie is the sequel to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), and is the second instalment in The Chronicles of Narnia film series.
William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes, Georgie Henley, Liam Neeson, and Tilda Swinton reprise their roles from the previous film, while new cast includes Ben Barnes, Sergio Castellitto, Peter Dinklage, Eddie Izzard, Warwick Davis, Ken Stott, and Vincent Grass. In the film, the four Pevensie siblings return to Narnia to aid Prince Caspian in his struggle for the throne against his corrupt uncle, King Miraz.
Work on the script for the film began before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was released, so that filming could begin before the actors grew too old for their parts. Director Andrew Adamson wanted to make the film more spectacular than the first, and created an action sequence not in the novel. The Narnians were designed to look wilder as they have been hiding from persecution, stressing the darker tone of the sequel. The filmmakers also took a Spanish influence for the antagonistic race of the Telmarines. Filming began in February 2007 in New Zealand, but unlike the previous film, the majority of shooting took place in Central Europe, because of the larger sets available in those countries. To keep costs down, Adamson chose to base post-production in the United Kingdom, because of recent tax credits there.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian premiered on May 7, 2008, at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City, before it was theatrically released on May 16 in the United States and on June 26 in the United Kingdom, by Walt Disney Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics. Many praised the performances and visual effects; however, the film's darker tone and mature themes drew polarizing opinions. It was a moderate success at the box office, grossing $55 million during its opening weekend. By the end of its theatrical run, it had grossed $419.6 million worldwide, becoming the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2008.
Prince Caspian was the last The Chronicles of Narnia film to be co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures as 20th Century Fox became the distributor for the next film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010), due to budgetary disputes between Disney and Walden Media, but as a result of Disney eventually purchasing 21st Century Fox in 2019, Disney now owns the rights to all the films in the series.."

NO OSCAR NOMINATION for DENIS
And it is a literal crime against cinema
How in God's name did EP get more nominations that DUNE part 2 ? I watched DUNE part 2 twice in theatres. I hadn't even heard of EP. I will not be watching the Oscars. This is absurd. It feels like guys seeing DUNE part two were ready to convert to ISLAM.
The DUNE trilogy will go down as this generations LOTR, StarWars, The Matrix, the GodFather. This wasn't even a snub so much as a slap in the face.
For me it was a literal stab wound
Emilia Perez has more nominations than Return of the king!!! But Dune only got 5.
Wait, seriously? That's actually a crime against the arts...
@ I know. I’m an inspiring filmmaker in New Zealand. I have worked part time in the industry for the last 3 years and I’m about to go full time. But it has never been more embarrassing to be apart of this industry we’re horrible shows like Rings of power (that I worked on as a contractor, it sucked) and movies like Emilia Perez are praised as great art. But true art and great films like dune, are treaded like trash, and studios and awards institutions don’t listen to there audiences. It hurts to see Villeneuve get the shaft again man. Sorry but I felt like I needed to rant. Have a good day
@ Ah, not at all man. Good to let these frustrations with the industry we want to be apart of out. All the best from one artist to another.
Dune part 2 was NOT snubbed. The first film won 6 Oscars off of 10 noms. Most franchises do not get Oscars for multiple entries, as most Academy members see the awarding of one film in the franchise to be “the franchises recognition”. The Academy is actually going out of it’s way to continue to recognize the franchise. The problem is, they jumped the gun and gave all the accolades up front, on the first film, when they historically have usually waited for the last entry of a franchise to show recognition. Here, the PR would be better and the audience would have been more satisfied if part 2, the actual climax of the story had been rewarded instead of part 1. But as I stated the Academy is actually giving Part 2 all the recognition as well. It is nominated for 5 Oscars including best picture. Which, by definition, is not a snub, Timothee Chalamet, the actor most deserving and likely to get a nomination, is nominated for A Complete Unknown instead, so again, not snubbed. And let’s face reality, dylan was a far more challenging role than Paul. In fact… Paul is arguably one of the easiest male roles ever written… he doesn’t deserve an Oscar for it. Sorry not sorry. All this snub talk feels like it is coming from people who champion these types of films or this genre of films at the expense of all others frankly. Be real… no performance yet in dune is worthy of an oscar. Not even close. The only spot where one could say a possibility of a snub would be for director. But here is the thing… there is already a part 3 coming and Everyone knows this. So im honestly surprised that it got any nominations at all for part 2. I suspect, Denis V will be up for Directing when Messiah comes out.
Edmund fighting Trumpkin in the beginning is like the tutorial part in video games lmao I always wonder, when and where did they get Peter's armor for the duel? Did they go back to the treasure room in Cair Paravel? This is a small complaint but Caspian's crown is awful. It looks like a toy. I like Peter's crown from the first film, it's detailed but still elegant and beautiful, and realistic enough. And same! I want Rhindon, Peter's sword, too! It's so pretty. It certainly looks fantasy but not unrealistic. Like sometimes in movies, the swords are so over the top that they look like plastic.
Honestly, the Trumpkin and Edmund fight feels exactly like that!
Good luck on your works! Definitely will check out more of your commentaries
Thank you for tuning in!
A new subscriber here! Really enjoy your commentary. And i agree with some of your points. This is gonna be a long comment. Imo the book is pretty boring so I appreciate how the movie added more conflicts. I don't mind Caspian being much older. But they should've removed the romance and focused on his relationship with Peter instead. Add some scenes where they actually get along and learn how to be a better person from each other. I have a mixed feeling about Peter's arc. The idea is good but the execution is not so much. At some moments he's too out of character. We never see him as the high king, why is he known as the magnificent? They should let us see more of his noble and honorable side, turn down his brattiness (idk if that's the right word) please. Caspian is supposed to learn how to be a good king from Peter. Peter's not really helpful here, aside from fighting Miraz. And even that is Caspian's idea, not Peter's just like in the book. I love Edmund and Lucy here. But I wish Susan was the mother of the group and the mediator between Peter and Caspian. She's supposed to be the gentle queen who doesn't like fighting. Here, she's more like the valiant one. The Telmarine stuff is pretty good. The aesthetic is wonderful. And I quite like Miraz as a villain. Adding more interaction between Aslan and Peter would be cool. Maybe Aslan reminding him that Aslan's always with him as long as he's looking and believing. And Peter apologizing for losing his way. The music... I only remember the ending song and Miraz Crowned score. The others are still good, but pretty forgettable. Also the movie feels less Narnia. Even in the ending the environment is like a generic fantasy kingdom, not Narnia. I know the point is that Narnia has changed, but please show us more unique magical stuff lol
This looks fire
Bez sukcesu Lotr, nie było by tego filmu. I też go lubię!
I thought the trailers sucked too. The trailers warned me but I didn't listen. Shame on me!
Please say spoiler when you mention anything about the next movie. I dont wanna know a single thing!
Dune being a White Savior Narrative is annoying because it ignores the underlying colonialism and Religious charisma manipulation that really leads to Paul's Rise
Yes, I oversimplified it for the sake of this video, but it overall isn’t about a white saviour. An argument can be made that Paul is in the first book (without the context of Messiah), but without Messiah it is undoubtably not about a saviour
EP had a drug cartel lord be glorified as per jesus in mexican land withouth it being in mexico and not one mexican is in the scene. How fucking dumb is that. It's also made by racist white french dog bro
Paul is not a savior, he is a destroyer, he is the villain of the story. The movie made that very clear. That's like saying Anakin in Revenge of the Sith is a savior because he is the main character.
Hey it is a terrific film overall. But in terms of storytelling it’s mediocre at best. Losing to Emelia Perez is crazy to me as well but I don’t care about Dune 2 either.
Dune 2 was mid but also the Oscars don’t matter
Mid is a strong word… but I do agree with the second part of your comment
@ That ending was real underwhelming
We don’t need u crying over the Oscar’s because you loved one specific movie, u made it very clear you have not seen the other nominated movies, and I’ve seen Elvis and the whale I loved Austin butler’s performance but I did not believe he should have won, u act like you’ve never seen the Oscar’s, go ahead and watch the other nominees
Bro dune movie suck tbh
Even crazier that Jacques Audiard got a nomination for best director for Emelia Perez over DV
I just watched maybe the first 20mins of EP and had to turn it off. What a baffling film.
@ absolutely… Dune on the other hand, and part two specifically, still leaves me in awe and I think my next viewing will be number seven… a shame to see the truly deserving not receive the proper accolades
Im so happy that I'm not the only person who thought this movie was atrocious. It's a "b" movie with an "a" movie budget. I think you nailed it on the head why it's so terrible. The constant "remember in Gladiator when..." is so overdone. And "if this movie wasn't called Gladiator 2..." is a perfect way to describe it
As soon as you brought up The Whale and said that Brendan so obviously didn't deserve to win, you lost me. Agree that Dune 2 shouldn't been nominated for more, but Brendan's performance was life-altering.
The Whale was a profound movie. I agree with your sentiments.
This is probably just me..But if it's nominated for Best Picture it has a chance to inscribe itself in history as one of the only sci-fi fits up there, in something in the vein of LOTR Return of The King that is standing proudly in the hall of fame for all of time being a film with Trolls and Wizards winning best picture. Which is insane when you think about it. That's not exactly snubbed now is it. I think regardless if it wins or not I sorta think it's the most important one.
Amen man! That was the single best viewing experience of my entire effin life and prolly my fav film now. I left the theater thinking, okay - "this time Dennis is for damn sure getting to kill it at the Oscars," - oh how wrong i was. The number of categories this movie was snubbed from getting even a nomination, combined with prolly not even winning many of the few things it's actually nominated for - makes this prolly the most snubbed film in recent memory. Absolutely insulting!
everyone knows (i hope) that The Oscars are BS. but no, Dune was not snubbed. it was a realy good movie, but nothing groundbreaking or even close to a masterpiece. Dune 1 is a much better movie also. Dune 2 was following a more standard movie recipe
crazy dead opinion

SO TRUE
Remember when Eragon and Percy Jackson used to compete for worst book adaptation in all of history. Amazon somehow did worse. With two amazing IPs!
At least the first Percy Jackson film is entertaining. All I see with WoT is wasted potential.
@ I believe wot and rop were made out of spite against its fans
I love this short film!
Thank you! That really means a lot
Don't read from a script. We can see your dumb eyes.

Gladiator has no sequel… Gladiator needs no sequel.

I just found your channel, and your commentary is really enjoyable and fun tho. Keep it up, man!
Thank you so much for saying that, I will do!
If you can, please give the Magician’s Nephew a read! It’s the most beautiful short story which also acts as a precursor to how this version of Narnia came to be, and yes, it is the professor’s story!
Yes, I definitely want to read/listen to it. Especially since my boy Kenny B (Kennith Branagh) does the audiobook. I’m just currently knee deep in the Wheel of Time book series. Hopefully after that I will check it out.
story so good idec that it has christian themes
😂😂
I'm glad you're giving S3 a chance! I highly encourage you to go into it with an open mind as it has potential to be the best season yet by far. Being a long-time fan of the books with many re-reads I can pick up a lot of things they're doing that make sense for an adaptation that might not be picked up by a first-time reader. I do think you have a lot of good points about the show (and a few I feel are unfounded). For example, they obviously need to explain the difference between Saidar and Saidin more if viewers aren't seeing them do that, but then again the show opens up saying the male half of the power was corrupted in the very first scene, and Liandrin saying "when you touch it you make it filthy", and all that talk about the Corruption (aka the Taint) on the male half of the one power, and how Rand is destined to go mad (but Egwene, Nynaeve, etc. are not), so it definitely is there. It's always good to keep a critical eye out and hold their feet to the fire on plot points and character representations that aren't necessary changes, but of course there will have to be a lot of necessary changes in an adaptation from book to screen, especially considering how few hours they have to tell the 15 book story. I thought showing us the Winternight attack in S1E1 was awesome since we never got that in the books, for example. You mention that you're not hearing a lot of talk about this from people, and I agree they've done a very bad job with advertising, but that's on Amazon/Sony, not the show creators. The show has actually done far better in viewership for its budget than Rings of Power and many comparable shows, even with the lack of advertising and smaller initial fan base. You say that being negative about the show isn't hurting anyone, but it does make you and those you talk to about it less likely to enjoy the show, so maybe that's another reason you're not hearing people talk about it. You wonder whether Faile will be in S3, so I guess you missed the shot of Perrin and Faile making out in the Two Rivers in the teaser trailer, and the other brief glimpse of her to Perrin's left during the scene of him fighting with an axe. All that being said, I do have my own frustrations with certain scenes and elements in the show, but I still enjoy it very much for what it is, especially when I look at it as new Wheel of Time content rather than a page by page adaptation (which would be impossible both for length and format and would not be as enjoyable). Here's hoping you come to enjoy the show as much as I do, and that they continue to fix the issues the show has had in the past. S3 is supposed to be a much more faithful adaptation of book 4 primarily, which is a fan favorite book of the series, so I think S3 will not disappoint for anyone not determined to dislike it. I also suspect when we get the full trailer we'll get a lot more scenes of the rest of the crew and what they're up to. Good on you giving it another go!
I’m trying to change the way I approach this show. I do think it’s a terrible show, but I do see the pros when I see them. I will do more content on the previous seasons looking at why it doesn’t work, but I also want to address the positives. I’m really hoping season 3 will be entertaining. It will inhibit my judgement on the shows overall quality, but if season 3 is good, then season 3 is good.
I missed the old ways of doing fantasy films from 2000s. They have something in it. If it is the story, direction, cinematography or just my childhood nostalgia for those films but most of those fantasy have charm that is hard to replicate nowdays. Even those weak movies like The Golden Compass or The Spiderwick Chronicles have something special. Most of those 2000s fantasy have magic in it, you kind of feel it. It is something similar to the old 80s fantasy, everybody knows how those 80s fantasy movies makes you feel and something similar happend in 2000s. Maybe they feel more epic on big screen. Having them all as fantasy tv show these days could feel a bit tiresome because that is entire diferent way of filming so it does not feel grand or epic as it should be like for the big screen. Instead they look small in comparison. Does Wheel of Time, The Willow, Witcher or Rings of Power have any sence of scale and wonder? I guess it comes down the vision of the director who is pasionate for the project. Hopefully Greta Gerwig can bring back some of the magic for her adaptation, she is set to direct two movies so I am really glad this is not another tv show. Her first film is suppose to be The Magician's Nephew so could be interesting. Also as side note, no Andrew Adamson, the director of the Shrek and Narnia, did not direct the third film. That was Michael Apted who directed it which is why it feels different. It was made under 20 century fox after Disney gave them the rights to Narnia when Prince Caspian felt short of their expectation.
Well said! Also, Google lied to me, it said Andrew Adamson directed VotDT. Can’t trust anything these days.
Because the people behind it have either... A.) Never read the source material. ... Or... B.) Hate the source material, it's author, it's fans and feel no obligation to any of them.
I couldn’t get past 5th episode, it just doesn’t feel like wheel of time. It could be a decent show on its own, but it just so shifted, the characters, the culture, the stories… that’s not it.
The Hobbit is my favorite trilogy, and I agree. The theme is amazing and should have been used more 😊.
Looks like youre having a lot of fun, dude. 😂😂

What an Idiot 😂😂😂
Your criticism is shallow man
Film and TV are visual mediums so complaining about outdated visuals or filmmaking is going to be shallow. Why can some people not read Manga or comics? Because of the art style.
@@HamzaBoujelouah They dont read manga and comics because they don't want to read they rather watch something animated, its the medium not the content. Regardless I figured i would tell you to have a more nuanced take for the quality of your future videos.
The Dune Miniseries seems to be like the right thing, produced at the wrong time; as, if it had been produced earlier, the creators may have relied more on practical effects, that would not age as badly as the CGI; and if it had been produced later, it would have looked better due to better technial opportunities. But even disregarding the effects, there were a bunch of creative choices in the show that were just ... distracting. As you mentioned, the costumes at times seemed to mismatch the characters (was anybody else distracted by all of these extravagent hats,) and at some point I was getting annoyed by the constant colorful lighting, the actors were exposed to, it looked unnatural and it wouldn't have been hard to change these. In isolation, I believe the script and the actors of this miniseries were pretty good, but something about the execution just felt off. But, I'm fully on board with Ian McNeice; though Stellan Skarsgård impressed me as the Baron, McNeice's performance of this character is in my opinion, still the most layered and intreguing.
It's not just the hats, but the quality of the costumes themselves. They look like costumes and not clothing worn in universe.
YES YES YES THANK YOU SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS WONKA IS FUCKING TRAGIC U GET ME THANKS
