That would be a really awesome truck to see back in service the way it was meant to be used…as a hauler. Weather it’s a farm produce, or equipment hauler makes no difference. Just seeing it back in service would be excellent, it deserves it being in that good of shape. You two always do vehicles justice, I just hope I’m able to see you complete it.
I've been doing rotisserie restoratons for many many years....I do all the metal fab, bodywork, paint, wetsand and final polishing....My buddy and I just finished a 49 Ford pickup for his dad, and now were doing another 48 Ford Pickup for another guy... and a bunch of other things inbetween...The respect you have for your adoring wife Joline....and clearly your passion for hand crafting and building one of a kind rolling works of art is astounding. didnt want this episode to end Archie is a right proper geezer as we say in the uk , great show it keeps getting better ! love it the cars , the people and you guys
Thanks Chad for the memories……..I enjoyed the last two episodes so much it’s like being there with my dad. Dad was a truck driver for over 35yrs and yes I know what the air valve tool was……actually was going thru so of his bits and pieces yesterday and found 3!!! Best part was the wire and the tail shaft. Dad was always telling me how to do things…….his way. But Chad even I knew how to ‘wire’ it up. Again thanks.
What a great new addition to the Hiltz team ! No longer looking for a hauler you have one ! Money saved instead of spent . Thumbs-up Jolene 👍 and 👍 great addition 👍. This is going to be a epic build and I'm ready !!!
You have a CABOVER semi truck that you can build any kind of huge hauler that you could want! That thing could easily haul buses! Put a removable ramp with a winch at the top of it
They have a semi diesal to haul anything with? I'm guessing they bought this old fire truck to haul Jolenes race car in to the race's they been wanting to go to. I'm guessing that other thing he started with that car sitting in tip of another car is a no go became a bigger project than Chad wanted to get into finishing.
I remember my dad doing the very same thing to me many many times. Made me chuckle thinking about the memories. Seems like all old men are exactly the same all over the world. God I miss my old man. Thanks Chad
That truck is a great find ! The original style is amazing - that grille. All the operational "period" features are remarkable. Some reflection on a simpler time can be relaxing.
What a wonderful story that man is, we could all learn a lesson on how to interact with fellow human beings, Thanks Chad &Jolene for sharing the experience
I purchased a 1948 ford 1/2 ton with the split rear end with a 4x block to keep a wood bed with steak bed sides from going to low. Could carry a cord and a 1/2 of 10ft logs. Had a 6 flat head, granny 4 speed no seincrow with the single brake fluid can under the drivers floor, Still had the floor start pedal and a Cruz control cable to hold your speed. The BRAKES WERE SCARY. Sold it for $500.00 after paying $350.00 and a lot of wood cutting and hauling small stumps. Told the guy I sold it to, about the brakes and to watch the fluid, didn't do it, crashed it threw a tavern block building wall in to the bar. No one got hurt just tavern excitement. Thoughts were the days. Cutting fire wood, having a beer at the tavern and selling your wood, going to the market and buying a steak, potato and cooking on a fire in the woods with your six pack. You still had $75 dollars in your pocket after gas and your meal. Enjoyed the vid, as you see brought back good memories, your just starting a new one for you. take care
I used a 46 ford flathead 8 with a 2 speed. We hauled handle blocks. White oak for the whisky stave mill and logs and firewood ect. It had good brakes however it didnt have a booster or power brakes. You had to downshift and it was always very iffy. I managed to buy a 66 Ford F600 that we still have. In 1972 and it only had 20,000 miles. Good booster brakes larger 8x25 x 20 tires . Still have part of the 46 ford.
No you will start a car hauler then move onto something else, lol. No problem with that just like to watch you work. Still want to see the cab over finished!
Yes a BadA$$ car hauler this truck would make. It won't necessarily be fun to drive in it's current running gear configuration, but will do great short run hauls for sure. Will be fun to watch what becomes of this great old rig.
The little red Ford truck found a new home and a new lease on life . Thumbs-up Jolene 👍 Chad 👍 great content . Love the idea of a new hauler . Helps save money and makes you money . Because everyone loves this little red truck ! From pics to calenders to owners . Thumbs-up on a great purchase . Dang it now I want a little red truck !
Hey Chat, the old guy is a legend...I am so impressed at how respectful you are to him...that will make you a legend! You guys are awesome, love your channel. My cousin Tracey lives not far from you...hope to go visit your area some time in the future again...been a while. Big shout from Lennox Passage,Cape Breton,N.S.
I think this is the best video I have seen in a long time ! Very wise and good man. Loved his soft voice and how he showed his wisdom to Chad. A big thumbs up 👍 👌 👏
Another vehicle going from sitting in a garage to sitting outside like that old dodge you bought it sat in a garage nd I seen it set outside. What happen to that idea of the Mercury cab over that was to be a hauler?
now i know how chad is that he respects his elders and listens to them and doesnt act pig headed i love the way you carry your self and i think the old man actually has respected you also thanks chad for bein who you are
Wow that f6 sounds and runs sweeter than some of the modern day vehicles Chad and jolene..and I think it would be ideal as a car hauler .especially if you keep on buying the amount of cars you seem to be getting. It would save you a lot of money cause you won't have to higher anymore trailers .keep up the great work the both of you 👍 👏
Chad, this one still has me laughing. Great banter, I think you meet your match with the guy who sold it to you. Congrates on the new project. These heavy duty trucks are gaining interest these days. I think I have seen about every variation of a 1/2 ton truck there is and these big trucks are now what catch my eye. Looking forward to the build.
Ok I do love when Chad makes his stuff his stuff but that truck is so nice I’d love to see it whole… BUT I didn’t buy it so the owner decides. Awesome truck
Does Chad do "restorations" ? Chad sounded like he might want to preserve the original red patina . A repaint would be great, though - maybe add little custom artwork ?
Solid truck not much you have to do with it put the front fenders on and build a flat bed with a ramp to haul car's on. If that's what you bought it for to be a car hauler? I have a picture of my brother's 1964 long bed Chevy truck with a small forgen car in the bed he was hauling off to the wrecking yard. Good thing he doesn't live to far from the wrecking yard because he would have got pulled over for shire. Well accully the car was stripped out so it was pretty light weight. Yeah that fire truck looks great as is just make the two front fenders match the rest of the truck won't be to hard to do. The hardest part is Chad to not chop the top or do some sort of radical change to it! Lol 👍🏾✌🏽💯🏁Go fast or cruise
They are a two piece rim they lock in the middle of each other plus there’s a boot and a tube . Those are safer then those damn lock rings Worked on lots of those truck wheels
@@nickchristensen2335 I found 2, one piece 22.5 for my 59 Chevy Viking 60 that I put on the steer axle. I replaced the widow makers on mine with the lock ring type until I can find more one piece 22.5’s (which are hard to find around here!)
Daniel is right!... don't stand in front of those Wheels when you air them up because there's a a chance you could lose a body part or your life.. If those are the Firestone RH-5( look it up) you want to get rid of them... They don't call them widow-makers for nothing... if you do make a car hauler you probably want to change out that rear end anyways it's not going to be fast enough for the Highway... the hardest part is finding wheels with that bolt pattern and yes you can cut the centers out of those and have them put into tubeless rims or find wheels off of an old U-Haul truck or something like that that with a one-piece wheel... but you might find it better to update the entire drivetrain to something more current with better braking, handling and Power.. those old flatheads can overheat sometimes and if it's anything like my 38 Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton that I restored that had a top speed of 45 mph with standard steering and no power brakes you don't want it.. it's only fun for the first day
Don't you already have a "cabover" project that has went to the wayside? Partial projects, and finishing none are kind of becoming the norm around here.😒 wishing to see something get finished!
Awesome... I once owned a 1960 Dodge flat bed with a Poly 318 and a stump puller transmission with 411 gears in the rear. That truck was a lot of fun. I look forward to this build :-)

Welderup and diesel brothers have nice rigs for hauling cars, would be nice to see chad do one.
4mpg from semi just to move the odd car around?? Seems wasteful
Was thinking a hook truck then you could have different bed attachments
@@thestreets5206 good point but when I bobtailed back home in my semi from bringing a load I got 12 mpg.

Watching him drive the truck on to the Dolly with a smile. PRICELESS!!
Yes you should build the car carrier. That F6 is awesome and would look cool carrying the flathead 6 race car
id keep it original as i could also
Nice old truck. Perfect for the custom builds on the rear. Build a nice ramp truck. I see that happening.

Use CAUTION airing up those old tires after deflating them. They don’t look like the lock ring type, but like the RH-5 WIDOW-MAKERS (split rims)!

They are a two piece rim they lock in the middle of each other plus there’s a boot and a tube . Those are safer then those damn lock rings
