@flatdash51 Hi Flatdash51 ... Yes the black Mk I Zephyr is still useing the original front end with minor modifaction. Glad to hear that you have a flatdash Mk I Consul.
The body is stock. Roll cage is removeable without damage. Fuel tank unbolts from the floor of the car so original can be replaced. Bench seat bolts straight back in. The engine is a Zephyr 6 with bolt on aftermarket hot up item called a Raymond Mays head. So the car is not changed much from its original state and any mods can be changed back without damage.
My grandfather had a '55 zephyr in Jamaica I was about 4 years of age then. It had a great engine but poor steering and brakes. He kept it for almost 20 years.
Were u over in Co.Donegal Ireland at a car show in september at an oil centre i think it was u ,u gave me a picture of this car we were in a green 1961 ford zephyr
If he used a mk3 engine, (2553cc) they used to give 109hp with standard carb, if i remember right. So mays head, inlet and exhaust manifolds, 3 webers, electronic ignition, electric fan maybe 170hp is possible, before it explodes.
Mel Aroha no one is making any claims. Of course new technology should be better. Surely you can just appreciate a 70 year old car for what it is. " A Survivor "

The Raymond mays head I had on mine in the 70s had 3 su carbs and a Tubular manifold on a mk2 ford zodiac it was a nice set up.
Beautiful, I bet the Raymond Mays bits are difficult to get hold of now!

If I remember well, the same engine setup was used for the AC ACE sport car ( the roots of the famous Cobra )

Is this still the Mk1 engine? Have there been modifications beside the May's head? Sounds good.
I'm thinking after market rods and pistons combined with accurate balancing to allow 7000rpm!
Anyone know whether this was running a different cam or other mods? 170hp even with a Mays head on a standard cam seems a push perhaps? ?
Checked the graph it's diffecult to read but looks like peak power at 5500rpm. So possibly is standard cam.
