    The problem with vids like this is that it doesn't have to be "better than". I have a '15 STI Launch, and I respect the WRX owners. The STI and WRX are made for two different enthusiasts -- those that like modding cutting edge tech, and those that are older gear heads who prefer working with tried mechanical tech. I respect the fact that Subaru made two different packages for each camp. You both have great cars -- the end.

      +Terrill Cooke all the information they gave regarding the DCCD was incorrect. It doesn't change the car to FWD or RWD. It simply shifts the bias of torque distribution between the front and rear axles.
      Then he said you can go up to a 70/30 split. That is also false. The older vehicles could go as far as a 65/35 split. The current STI, and the GR chassis before it, can go up to a 59/41 split. That's it.
      Then he mentions how no other car does this. The GTRs AWD system, and the Evo's AWD system are more than capable of doing this, and do it better, as 100% of the power can go to a single wheel at any given time.
      The list goes on

    You should talk about when the boost comes in. This makes a big difference as the boost in the WRX comes in much sooner than on the STI. The WRX is the pick for a daily drive - ie. and I would suggest that most folks use their WRX as a daily drive. STI is for those who do track days or simply want to be more of a show-off or don't do track days but irrespective of rational thought, just want the STI. There's no real right of wrong.

    I had a 2015 wrx base. Bought it new in December of 2014. Went stage 2 + in the first 1000 miles and drove it problem free until 31000 miles when I traded it in on my 2015 1LE Camaro in February of 2016. So 14 months ownership roughly. I got $22000 trade in and paid $25,800 for it new, and I got to keep all of my aftermarket parts to sell. I thought that was a hell of a deal.
    So you might ask, why did I trade it on a 1LE. Well, for starters, 1LE. Secondly, to go any further with the 2.0 DIT, would have required turbo and/or internal mods. An IAG short block was about $4000 and a turbo kit would have been close to that. I just couldn't justify putting that much more money into the car so I traded it.
    That said, I loved my 15 WRX. It was a phenomenal car.

    I'm buying a new car in the next few weeks. It is between a new/almost new wrx or a used STI of the current generation. I can't for the life of me decide which to go. It will be daily driver. It it was just a fun car, I would go STI in a heart beat. I've always wanted one. I've owned a FRS now for almost 4 years, and the ride leaves something to be desired for a DD. That is the only thing that gives me reservations about having an STI as a DD. I wish it was easier to decide these things lol.

    • @GroovesubaruDenver
      @GroovesubaruDenver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still own the white WRX that you see in this video and I would personally recommend it over the STI as a daily driver. I do wish it had a DCCD so I could do donuts more easily, but the better fuel economy, torque at lower RPM's, and the much lower cost make it a better option in my opinion. I went from a 2013 BRZ into this car and have been very happy. I highly recommend the short throw shifter. Good luck, I'm sure you will make whatever decision is right for you.

    The comment about the Stock STi used in the Wales Rally is 100% misleading.
    David Higgins from Rally America drove the car in the rally and did come in 20th overall, But they used the WRX Sti NR4 which is a factory built Rally car that costs over 100k not a stock STi for the street (Subaru claims it is closer to stock than the old WRC cars, but still a race car and not for the street).
    Also the NR4 uses the 2.0 EJ207 that all non-US spec STIs / Subaru Race Cars use (which is a stronger engine than the 2.5 that the US-spec STi gets)

  • @Roxas_DM

    They are both fun to drive but the sti def edges out the wrx. Also the sti motor is tried and true so as far as reliability is concerned I think the sti motor would edge out the wrx as far as longevity is concerned.

    I've had two Subaru's from new, they are great except for the head gaskets! You will only get 60K miles before they go. It has been an issue on Subaru for years and the dealers make heaps out of replacing them because the engine has to come out. If you see bubbles in the coolant overflow tank after a drive then the head gaskets are gone, there should be no air in the cooling system if the dealer says that's normal they are lying! Subaru know about it but they are making too much money on parts......Nothing like a bit of built in obsolescence

      You could get one as your first car. But take into account maintenance. It's not easy maintaining a performance car. You may be able to afford the car, but keeping it running can get pricey. I had a Subaru Loyale as a first car. Then a 2006 Mazdaspeed6, then a 2007 STi, then a 2017 WRX. After all is said I done, I am saving money owning the WRX in fuel and maintenance. Just some food for thought. Good luck

      Really all depends what you want. Both cars were an option and I went with the WRX for a couple of reasons. 99.9% of my driving is on the streets so the excellent drive tran on the STi would mean nothing and not worth the harsher ride. The engine in the WRX is really a much better engine, power ramps up quicker which means better and quicker driving in the city and MPG is much better, finally tunes can deliver more bang for the buck on the 2.0L then on the STi' 2.5L. The only thing I envy on the STi are the breaks and tighter steering.
      By the way the LED head lights have about 20% less light output then the Halogens according to Subaru engineers.

    • @krispewkreme4510
      @krispewkreme4510 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could afford the STi and the WRX....chose the WRX. I personally don't want to buy an STi simply because I don't to pay for upgraded features I will replace anyways. Here's why. FA20 is better. I'd be swapping headlights on both cars regardless. I'd swap coilovers on both. I'd want different rotors on both. I'd want better wheels on both. I'm going to swap seats regardless of WRX or STi. They both have garbage seats. But you see where I'm going with this. I love the STi but the 15+ models, the WRX was better for me especially since I saved money and get to use the saved money on parts I want. Rather than spending 5-10k extra for the STi and still end up swapping most parts.

I think I'd save the money on the STI and get the WRX, upgrade a few things (transmission mounts, exhaust, brakes, tune), and have a car that's better than the STI for still less money. If you wanted to keep going you could get a better suspension, intake, upgrade fuel system, etc.

      WRX: updated FA20 with instant boost (weak rods) \____both need to be built
      STi: outdated EJ257 with turbo lag (weak pistons) /
      WRX: smaller brakes (easy upgrade, but tires is a better investment for braking)
      STi: larger brakes (but tires provide quicker stops moreso than brakes)
      WRX: 6 speed (good enough for the majority of owners)
      STi: 6 speed (more stout, handles major power)
      WRX: AWD
      STI: AWD (DCCD, but not needed or entirely game changing. If it was torque vectoring, I'd understand)
      The STi is great out of the box, but bang for your buck and potential, I see the WRX as better.

    cobb accessport alone $600 turns sti into another animal(im stage 3 now still not happy) no sti review should be allowed until the ecu is jailbroken w a plug in OTS AP. Sti is embarrassing ly weak on stock epa map and factory did a shit job on it(lean running AND low power? lol) sti better car w resale value alone. 13:1 ratio hydraulic steering rack and diffs w 6MT and brembos. Resale alone is worth spending more.

    Clueless people.. the ride is rough cause it has performance suspension, that doesn't make the WRX better cause it's has a "better" ride. Also they didn't even mention the brembo brakes on the STi!!!

    STI is better than WRX. No argument there. STI are overpriced by at least $10,000 than the WRX, BUT if you Invest $2000 in the Wrx you can beat an STI.
    Wrx Simple Bolt on I/E and Cobb tuning will tie if not then beat an STI
    Smarter Choice WRX do some research and Invest some money.

    @thomas , 3 to 5,000 isnt about the straight line speed you obviously have never drivin a Sti? Price a brembo brake kit and that'll set you back 3K and knowing people like you, you probably can't install them yourself so you'll have to pay labor. The DCCD is something you also get with the Sti which you do not with a WRX, suspension and sway bars are way better than the WRX (speaking in racing terms). I can go on and on so stop it

  • @jrzez

    @Kevbo75 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow what a crappy review/comparison they touched on only two points. Let me expaind on this and give you the real deal on what is best on both cars.
    WRX:
    - Direct Injection and dual scroll turbo. Allows to build up power quicker and earlier in the RPMs then STI. Better engine.
    - Better ride quality.
    - Better MPG
    - Several thousand less expensive than the STI
    - More HP unlocked with custom tune then is unlocked with the STI
    STI:
    - More HP and Torque (.5 liter larger engine)
    - Better ADW
    - Better Brakes
    - Quicker steering
    This pretty much sums it up. If you're a track rat the STI is the way to go, for a day to day driver the WRX is the better of the two. I bought the WRX for the newer engine tech, it is a better engine than the 2.5l but really miss the sharper steering and brakes. Once the STI goes to the newer engine I might be tempted to go that route. You really can't go wrong either way.

    Over 100k miles in a STi u will be spending lots of money on "maintenance"
    The ej25 is a outdated inefficient engine that drinks oil worse a rotary engine.
    The WRX's fa20t is already proven to be a far superior engine when it comes to tuning.

    So many STI techs here , I find it repeatedly annoying with all the flaws people speak of about the STI . I’ve had the WRX and the STI both were lightly modded and the only thing I did was keep up with the service plan and drive intelligently and not like a fucking moron . The hype that’s surround this car is real and that’s the reason I upgraded from the WRX to the STI✌🏿 . Is one anyone better than the other? Who gives a shit they are both awesome cars and have different personality to match whatever you are into . Both car were purchased new from a local dealer so I definitely knew what I was getting vs getting a used one that was molested by 18 yr old man child . Every vehicle model has its fault but majority of what we are experiencing now is fuckin retards modding their shit from purchasing $50 mods and bad driving practices.

    • @CrazyForCooCooPuffs
      @CrazyForCooCooPuffs 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't think so, 3,500 on what?
      500$ on a tune
      500$ on a accesport which is required
      400$ on sway bars
      1700$ brembo's
      what else?
      The STi will still win.
      To completely bring a WRX to STi spec will costs more than just buying an STi, the transmission is like 4000$ by it self. STi's suspension is tuned for the track also.

    • @CrazyForCooCooPuffs
      @CrazyForCooCooPuffs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Cobb accessport is 600$ and a decent turbo back is 1200$ also using a generic tune is extremely stupid and is one of the main reasons subaru engines fail, so another 500$ for a protune which EVERYONE should get if they care even a little about their car.
      thats about 2300$, STi still has better braking, its transmission isnt shit like the WRX.
