Drive up the old Route 1 along coastal Maine and you drive through desolation and end up in Campabello Island, New Brunswick, Canada where FDR had his retreat.
You had me at 'Sister City of Innsmouth' & the tale did not disappoint. Respect to the author. Not many have successfully pulled off their attempts at an homage.
Thank you Gordon for all the countless hours of entertainment you've provided me, especially those sleepless nights with sick children. I hope only the best for you, your family, and this amazing channel.
There aren't any words to describe how greatful I am to this channel for all your hard work. Most of my content is lore videos on the shared weird fiction universe of Conan and being able to direct people to an actually entertaining and passionate reading of all of the cthulhu mythos and more has been phenomenal. Thank you so much and I'm sorry about what happened to your reading of Hyena by REH. TH-cam really doesn't care about context.
By God, that thumbnail artwork is terrifying 🫣 Hope the story itself can live up to it! 🤞💀 Edit: It absolutely could. I still "scream, and scream, and scream...!" 👻
I LOVE the eerie, creepy vibes of this story! Now this is what I consider horror and best in class when it comes to creating an atmosphere you can feel! No real gore, but plenty of just.... something being off and something being DEEPLY wrong.
God man i love your story telling. Its the perfect pitch, atmosphere and tone to all your stories. Wished there would be more recognition for your channel cause you kill it every time
I have *HAD IT* with these m-f-in Marshes and their m-f-in fishmen gold. Whole clan's gotta go, they can't keep getting away with all this rampant Dagon worship.
Who would have thought a place named Devilskill would hide anything sinister? Maybe a jolly tour of the Headless Valley or Murdersville would be a better choice…
Have you ever considered narrating somehing by Joe Lansdale, Brian Lumley (especially the Titus Crow stories), or Alan Moore (In The Courtyard)? Joe Lonsdale's stories would fit right in.
Yay! So many stories I've never heard before now. This channels selection and narration have become a delight to my days. Thank you Mr. Gordon and all others that help!
I haven't been there, but now I want to! I've been to Maine though and it reminds me of a small town my family drove through on a summer trip. It was super weird how there was a wharf, a fishing supplies store, fish market, and not much else at all. There were barely any houses either. Town seriously creeped me out as a kid.
This is great! I am going it a second listen. I love these new additions to the mythos and how the original stories and names of people and places are weaved into these new tales.
I fall asleep to thiis story every single time I try to listen to it! Because of that I start from the beginning every time, so its become my go to sleep aid. Something about the way this author writes, along with your voice are the rossetta stone to the languave of la la land!🤣
Where did you get that picture of my mother? I thought we had exorcised her, and nailed her undead body, face down, in a grave, under a remote cross-roads in a forest in Slovenia. Is this a new Google service ?
🤔 Something oddly familiar about that plot... Title may as well be *"The Shadow over I̶n̶n̶s̶m̶o̶u̶t̶h̶ Devilskill"* ...Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna complain about more fish-frog lore, but we're all thinking it - it's the same story with the alternate ending to segway into The Lighthouse 😅
Can any one tell me .the other story that Ian narrated that was a follow up of ismoth .with the old ones kept in a hospital by a bad doc experimenting on the queen .that one was excellent .
That one was another one of Vlek's as well. The queen is mentioned by name in this story: Majestic Marsh, sister to the one that is the matriarch of Devilskill.
I really enjoyed this. Rock solid creepy community, and protagonist who's a bit of a knob. I just can't help wondering if another dread secret would have given the author more elbow room at the reveal. Bit rich coming from me, but still. Edit: I was reflecting on this, and I think the draw of the [redacted for spoilers] is their liminal quality. You can explore both the human and the alien. They are the character equivalent of an uncanny valley face, but in their actions and motivations. And in this respect Vlek does an exemplary job.
Hardly an original…… This is a classic example of trying to improve upon a really great story, and it failed, however, for those who haven’t read ‘Shadow over Innsmouth’, they have something to look forward to! I got rather bored, and turned this off.
I couldn't agree more. I, for one think the Shadow over Innsmouth is the only good story ever written about the Deep Ones. And it's not good because of the Deep Ones, It's good despite the Deep Ones.
We love the subs 'Cause they are good to us The Quizno’s subs They are crunchy, they are tasty They are warm because they toast them They got a pepper bar
"Drive the coast north to where the land ceases to be America and decides to become something else" should be Canada's tourism promotion tag-line.
Canada is still America. It's beyond that, where the land ceases to be...
Drive up the old Route 1 along coastal Maine and you drive through desolation and end up in Campabello Island, New Brunswick, Canada where FDR had his retreat.
@@benwinkelWhen we say, "God bless America," in the US, we are not referring to Canada, LOL.
@@tomcurran8470 You're not? That's not nice of you. ;)
But...Canada is part of the Americas.

Fr, I knew what I was in for
The Aaron Vlek / Ian Gordon / Vishnu Prasad stars aligning like this again is a real treat.
Thank you Gordon for all the countless hours of entertainment you've provided me, especially those sleepless nights with sick children. I hope only the best for you, your family, and this amazing channel.
One thing these stories have taught me: never, ever go visit old, decaying seaside villages in New England!
Especially those with weirdly quiet inhabitants who are secretly members of cosmic horror worshipping cultists 🐙

It is 👍
No kidding 😬
Isn't it though.! 😉
Give grandmama a kiss!!
….Leaving a comment BEFORE hearing the story? ( Isn’t that like leaving a restaurant review-based on the menu )?
-skill is a Dutch suffix in many New York place names, e.g. Peekskill. But I hadn’t encountered it yet in Massachusetts.

What a great addition to the whole Innsmouth mythology! Thanks for this brilliant reading, linking up with so many other great stories!
Agree!
The Marsh family can't keep getting away with this, lmao
I heard innsmouth and I had an inkling of where this was going. DARLING! HOME IS CALLING FOR YOU!
Aaron Vlek is one of the best modern Mythos tales writer. Great to hear more Vlek on Horrorbabble. 💀
if I had gotten here earlier, Warren may still be alive Dammit 😢
😢 Next time, Will, next time.
He's singing with the Choir Invisible. He is an ex-Warren!
Warren is faking his death for the insurance money shhh

Holy balls that was good.
This and The Lighthouse are expanding The Shadow Over Innsmouth beautifully
Great story and great art. Vishnu’s illustration is truly ghastly
Thank you Mr. Gordon

❤ the new synth music in the intro
Love the channel as always
It sounds as though the author took a journey to the ancient port of Sandwich, in East Kent!
Strangely, similar!
Well, Sandwich's estuary has been silted up for centuries now, so any Deep Ones would have to walk an hour to the shore ...
@@RogertheGS yep, it's sat in the middle of the marshland, looking quite anciently, out of place!
Great story. Love the connection to his other story you narrated!
Thanks!
Love it!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Cheers Ian!!!!!!!😊

I love these new additions to the mythos and how the original stories and names of people and places are weaved into these new tales.
Meant to say "woven." I just caught it. Lol!
Aaron Vlek stories are awesome.....keep them coming.
That was one tale, that made my flesh crawl st the end, but excellent for all that😊
Oh no "The Whately House"😅 Love the mythos

It's probably because it's just boring.
The art for this one is reeeeally giving me the heebie jeebies, it's amazing!
I was hesitant about this initially with it's near mirroring the Innsmouth story but it evolved well. Great work again x😊
Gordon old chap you are the man of the tell
he is a great story teller and its great to see h p Lovecraft's stories and his mythos told so well
Ian that is some disturbing artwork my man!
How’s Warren? Oh, right.
Alive and well, prospering in dry goods!
@@DNX-01-salveWarren is deep in the caves
Isn't that just like Warren. Shiftless, lazy. Making everyone worry.
Been waiting all week! ❤
I vote this for scariest artwork in a horrorbabble thumbnail.
I adore anything innsmouth this story was wonderful ! B
Damn! What an ending! Another great HB gem!
Warren is just fine. He’s just trapped in the Warp.
Bloody marvelous addition to the Innsmouth and Cthulu mythos! And to be a prisoner in your own body - what a horrible fate!
Thanks again g Man
A wonderful and chilling tale! Thanks, Ian.

Sheesh, it sounds like a small town in the Hudson Valley region.
What do you think inspired me? I used to live in Hudson, NY itself.
@@Vlekistan My wife has enough inspiration for me. She's from Rhinebeck!
@@Driven2Beerswell, Rhinebeck is the polar opposite of Hudson! It certainly was when I liv3d there. Rhinebeck is lovely.
I experienced a very similar horror to this when I visited the sea side town of Rhyl in Wales.

Yikes 😮
Faithful to the mythos. Excellent story, as a continuance of the original Lovecraft's story.
Hay hay 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
So are all the residents deep ones, or just the matriarch?
Warren is still dead?
Holy hell this thumbnail has been haunting me for days now. Story is fantastic too ❤
A very chilling work. would have loved a little reference to mother hydra in name but otherwise it was a brilliant story to experience.
There never was a Mother Hydra and Dagon is just Cthulhu by another name.
I really like the art, almost as much as the story.
I think Lovecraft would like this...

Who is Warren is Alive? Trebek: Ah, no. Sorry, sorry... And how much did you wager?
Who’s Warren? Please!
He's from the Statement of Randolph Carter.
Very enjoyable, Mr Lovecraft would approve I think !
Some say devils kill, some say devil skill.
Either way, I enjoyed this story. I think Howard would have enjoyed this too.

This is just a shadow over innsmouth ripoff, it’s embarrassing. Hey did this channel even bother with it? Lazy if you ask me…
This story and The Lighthouse before it were intended to be sequels to some, not rewrites. If you hated them, that’s fine too.
Love horrorbabble , but this non/plot/non story was beyond boring and essentially a giant waste of time.
