I do want to note that Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" does actually have one advantage over the original: It's a Quick-Play spell. Basically equivalent to being an instant instead of a Sorcery, for Magic players.

The deal with Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" is that Konami goes through phases of making cards based on moments from the anime. Usually they're upgraded versions of monsters the characters used with the names of their anime attacks added like Kaiser Glider - Golden Burst. Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" is referencing the duel between Yugi and Arkana when they're both chaining effects to each other's cards and they both revive the other's Dark Magician.

the secret behind mystic tomato getting new artwork for the tcg release while mystic potato just kept the ocg art is that tcg mystic tomato was first printed in 2002, while mystic potato's tcg print is from _earlier this year_ the last part of the quiz demonstrates what's happened in that 22 year gap pretty well, as not only has the lingering remnants of the satanic panic and the subsequent soft ban on religious iconography in children's media faded away, but the _massive_ expansion of the internet has made it completely effortless to learn of the changes made during the localization of the franchise. hell, the tcg has actually flat-out released "lost art promotions" that are reprints of various notable cards ( including _multiple_ reprints of dark magician girl ) that feature the uncensored art, so the concept isn't even limited to yugioh nerds. so in the end, the reference isn't actually lost on the vast majority of people familiar with mystic tomato, and while coming up with special tcg art for the potato could've been a cute touch that took the reference even further, it also probably would've have gone over that well with peeps who aren't fond of the tcg tomato. and, most importantly, mystic potato ... is complete packfiller, and it only gets _that_ honor because of the game's practice of bundling promo cards from other regions into packs. little dude is a card you got _for free_ with your monthly copy of v jump! it's not some major nostalgia bait to be pushed as hard as possible, it's just a cute callback to a notable old school card
The mystic potato thing does make some kind of sense, because mystic tomato is a very old card when Konami was more conscious of religious subtext and the like, so they censored it (...for some reason). Mystic Potato is way more recent, I think it's like a year old card, and at this point Konami is way more lax with censorship so they just didn't bother censoring it. The issue now is that we don't have the original art of mystic tomato (ever since they stopped caring they've been porting the original arts of some of the old cards) in the TCG so we have these disjointed artstyles
In the Japanese version, Mystic Tomato is called Killer Tomato which is why they thought it would be a good idea to make it frightening. As to why they changed it, they probably saw Jack-o-lanterns as religious due to their origin as part of Samhain which is a Celtic holiday and the inspiration for Halloween.
I just love how Monster Reborn Reborn goes out of its way to Put the Ankh from the OCG artwork up in heaven above a grave of TCG Arts of Monster reborn with whatever that was supposed to be.
to negate the special summon of a monster within a chainlink you need to negate the entire chainlink anyway. (so the card would just do nothing anyway) the reason for this card text to exist like that is, that it may not be possible anymore to special summon the monster, because after activating a card you can activate other cards, not only cards that directly negate the activation. so if a trap card says, nobody can special summon that gets chained to monster reborn reborn, the opponent would chose a monster, but the monster cant get special summoned and because it doesnt special summon the other monsters dont get banished. the same can happen if your field got filled by cards like ojama trio and you simply cant special summon an additional monster because no space left.
Oh, and Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" is literally an anime moment from one of yugi's duels with kaiba (the battle city finals). Hence why it's called that - as it's the direct quote (art is a recreation of that moment). Kaiba has a similar "Spell Card:" card that recreates one of his anime moments.
17:28 there's an archetype called "U.A."which I believe are based around college/professional sports at least. Never played the deck but I think there's a midfielder and a dunker in it
They should make a quiz on "Jojo Bizarre Adventure" localized names. Even if its just a one hit wonder much like dog island. I just want to Kyle to have contact with "Limp Bizkit".
I want them to experience happiness with the rest of the -itsu brigade, be lulled into a false sense of security by something cute like ghostricks or melfyes, only to be thrown into the pit of despair with Ojamas!
Mystic tomato is confusing. If you read the Japanese text, it reads as Killer Tomato, so the naming censor makes sense, but they changed the picture as if they wanted to match the original name, even though they were changing it. It’s so bizarre…
Ultra Athletes are the closest you’re going to get to building a football themed deck in Yu-Gi-Oh. Cardfight Vanguard on the other hand has Spike Brothers and the Diabolos. Entirely football themed.
Spell card: "Monster Reborn" is a quick effect, meaning if you set it you can activate it on your opponents turn, possibly gaining a effect of the card toy choose, and if you time it right to certain types of effects that target that monster in thw graveyard, cause them to fail
Japanese Mystic Tomato's name appears to be "Killer Tomato". I guess the 'killer' part was too insensitive for localizers and changed it to 'mystic' along with the card art to differentiate it?
Umm actually it's pronounced "seela-canth". English Digimon pronounces their coelacanth monster "Co-elamon" even though a close enought to the actual word pronunciation is right there in Japanese! シーラモン
I just want to see their reaction to blue eyes abyss dragon, I don’t know how that could be in the quiz but I want them to recon with the fact they made blue eyes sexy
I refuse to believe Nico knew about Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" as it's not even in the TCG yet, it's only been released as a Jump Promo in Japan... also it's better than Monster Reborn simply because it's a quick play.
To the football question, technically, yes. There is a deck called U.A. or ultimate athletes. One of the main pieces is called Perfect ace and the german translation is amazing
Lmao Mitch repeating Nico word for word and beat by beat at 6:17 made me think the video looped somehow. Had to rewind to make sure. Also fish/aqua/sea serpent as a deck are actually quite decent so seeing these 3 in a round together means the dude who made this round probably plays kairyu-shin stun which means that he sucks lmao /j
Seeing as they "love" Yu-Gi-Oh maybe they could look at other card games, and maybe just maybe they will see that Yu-Gi-Oh is not that weird after all.
So trivia fact on Tyler the Great Warrior - one of the rarest cards in existence, immensely valuable. It's a Make a Wish Foundation card. Sold for over $300k.
Mystic Tomato had its name changed in censorship - the localisation team would not use the words "killer" or "death", and, as such, the original, "Killer Tomato" was censored to "Mystic Tomato", and I guess they felt the need to change the art to reflect this.
You can't make one explicitly around Football, but you can make one around Sports in general. There is an Archetype named U.A. which stands for Ultra Athlete, and it's sports stars from various games including Baseball and Basketball.
Video is a bit older so I hope you still see this, but the text saying "'Inmato' monsters" means that "Inmato" is in fact an archetype. Sadly that archetype is only 2 monsters, but it IS an official archetype, and with any luck we may get more members in the future. In Yu-Gi-Oh! to be an archetype a piece of the card name needs to be specified on another card in quotations alongside either the word card, the word monster(it can specify the type of monster too), or the word spell/trap(it can specify the type of spell/trap). So a card saying "'Blue-Eyes' monster" makes "Blue-Eyes" an archetype for example. Quotes alone aren't enough it NEEDS to specify the type of card or say "card" acter the quotes to form an archetype, if it just has a full card name in quotes then it's just referring to a single card and not an archetype. Cards can even belong to multiple archetypes, here's a few examples from the "Chaos" archetype. Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon is part of the "Blue-Eyes" and "Chaos" archetypes. Chaos Nephthys is part of the "Chaos" and "Nephthys" archetypes. Elemental HERO Chaos Neos is staggeringly part of the "Elemental HERO" "HERO" "Chaos" AND "Neos" archetypes. With this one it's important to note that every member of the "Elemental HERO" archetype all fall under the "HERO" archetype making "Elemental HERO" considered a sub-archetype of "HERO", but it is still an archetype on its own.
a "football" theme deck, I don't think there's enough cards, but the closest are the U.A which is a sports theme deck, football, soccer, baseball etc etc
I want a question on one of the future yugioh quizzes to be " Which of these cards is not 'Umi'." And then have any of the duzen or so cards that are eather always treated as umi, or treated as umi while on the field.

This show fuels my Monday lunch breaks, wish I had a sandwich...
it's good to know we finally broke Tyler down to the point he now likes yugioh
In the Japanese version, Mystic Tomato is called Killer Tomato which is why they thought it would be a good idea to make it frightening. As to why they changed it, they probably saw Jack-o-lanterns as religious due to their origin as part of Samhain which is a Celtic holiday and the inspiration for Halloween.
I just love how Monster Reborn Reborn goes out of its way to Put the Ankh from the OCG artwork up in heaven above a grave of TCG Arts of Monster reborn with whatever that was supposed to be.
Magic: The Gathering &/or Pokemon Pokedex entry quiz when?
Anyway, fun video! Thanks for uploading!
to negate the special summon of a monster within a chainlink you need to negate the entire chainlink anyway. (so the card would just do nothing anyway)
the reason for this card text to exist like that is, that it may not be possible anymore to special summon the monster, because after activating a card you can activate other cards, not only cards that directly negate the activation. so if a trap card says, nobody can special summon that gets chained to monster reborn reborn, the opponent would chose a monster, but the monster cant get special summoned and because it doesnt special summon the other monsters dont get banished. the same can happen if your field got filled by cards like ojama trio and you simply cant special summon an additional monster because no space left.
I bit bummed at the Bonus round you didn't choose "Monster Rebone" but the choices are also good so I'm not upset. XD
Disappointed Beautunaful princess wasn't also a tuner (tuna) monster...
Go work for Bandai, PLEASE
Japanese Mystic Tomato. Looks cooler than that grimace photoshop face.
It's cuter too, I don't like molestomato
17:28 there's an archetype called "U.A."which I believe are based around college/professional sports at least. Never played the deck but I think there's a midfielder and a dunker in it
32:46
one minor advantage Spell Card: Monster Reborn has is that it's a quick play spell, meaning you can play it during your opponent's turn
I guarantee that at some point in each video, at least one of these guys thinks, "Why am I friends with them?"
You might not be able to do football players, BUT you sure can do boxers!
I've really started looking forward to these every Monday 😄
17:20 yes you can kinda. U.A cards
But you’d also have to throw baseball, basketball, and soccer players into the mix.
@@Starpion88 I mean, they said football, never specified gridiron
@@berserkerciaran Still, half of the deck isn’t football.
@@Starpion88 Fair enough
"Yuguy" will probably be a protagonist of the next season of Yu-Gi-Oh.
They should make a quiz on "Jojo Bizarre Adventure" localized names. Even if its just a one hit wonder much like dog island. I just want to Kyle to have contact with "Limp Bizkit".
@@nellewoodruff6337 spoilers dude.
1:10 calling l33tsp34k is kinda weird considering it was popular in the early 2000s. I associate it way mroe with millenials
The thumbnail this time gave me an idea for a quiz. Show censored artworks and have the guys try to guess what was changed from the originals.
The only thing which would have made the Bill round better was showing the Pokemon TCG version of Bill, which literally just says "Draw 2 cards."
I prefer the original Japanese tomato. The censored one makes me uncomfortable to look at.
Fun fact for tyler - inmato is a character in one of the video games.
Ultra Athletes are the closest you’re going to get to building a football themed deck in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Cardfight Vanguard on the other hand has Spike Brothers and the Diabolos. Entirely football themed.
lol I always thought the censors mystic tomato was tame compared to the uncensored one
Spell card: "Monster Reborn" is a quick effect, meaning if you set it you can activate it on your opponents turn, possibly gaining a effect of the card toy choose, and if you time it right to certain types of effects that target that monster in thw graveyard, cause them to fail
I like the uncensored Mystic Tomato art because I just like Jack O' Lanterns.
while im used to american mystic tomato the dude looks live he visits kindergartens and nursey's
That intro joke made me physically sick 😆
Ah yes my favorite anime Ya guy Ohhhh
Just to let you know Tyler the Great Warrior was actually made my a make a wish kid
GIVE ME MOOOOOOOOOOORE
Of what? The cum talk?
@@Zach174. Definitely
I refuse to believe Nico knew about Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" as it's not even in the TCG yet, it's only been released as a Jump Promo in Japan... also it's better than Monster Reborn simply because it's a quick play.
As iconic as the american Mystic Tomato is. The Japanese one is loads cooler. He looks like he could make a Bitchin Marg
The Spell Card: Monster Reborn benefits is you can also activate it during your opponents turn
I have to like the OG japanese mystic tomato more, only because the tongue in the English version just creeps me out too much.
To the football question, technically, yes. There is a deck called U.A. or ultimate athletes. One of the main pieces is called Perfect ace and the german translation is amazing
The gamer round is reeeeaaal!
There is a whole archetype based around Foodball and sportsmen
Lmao Mitch repeating Nico word for word and beat by beat at 6:17 made me think the video looped somehow. Had to rewind to make sure.
Also fish/aqua/sea serpent as a deck are actually quite decent so seeing these 3 in a round together means the dude who made this round probably plays kairyu-shin stun which means that he sucks lmao /j
I have a separate memory for bits
I have never actually played a round of yugioh tbh😂
Veggie tales vs 321 penguins. Morals off, who wins?
That's a mondo-tough call. I'll leave it to the experts
This was the gas leak episode and it was awesome
Seeing as they "love" Yu-Gi-Oh maybe they could look at other card games, and maybe just maybe they will see that Yu-Gi-Oh is not that weird after all.
So trivia fact on Tyler the Great Warrior - one of the rarest cards in existence, immensely valuable. It's a Make a Wish Foundation card.
Sold for over $300k.
Mystic Tomato had its name changed in censorship - the localisation team would not use the words "killer" or "death", and, as such, the original, "Killer Tomato" was censored to "Mystic Tomato", and I guess they felt the need to change the art to reflect this.
og tomato is more mystic the american one is scary flying tomato from doom i see in my nightmares
I can't believe Nico tied with me. And I'm someone who actively plays the game!
You can't make one explicitly around Football, but you can make one around Sports in general.
There is an Archetype named U.A. which stands for Ultra Athlete, and it's sports stars from various games including Baseball and Basketball.
i think mystic Tamoato's Censorship was the result of someone in Konami's english branch being a Fan of "Attack of the Killer Tomatos" Franchise
Also on an entirely separate note(so separate comment) Silent Magician is MUCH hotter than Isolde.
a "football" theme deck, I don't think there's enough cards, but the closest are the U.A which is a sports theme deck, football, soccer, baseball etc etc
"Soccer"? If you are talking about The game to kick a football in The enemy goal game is football
just take it either way, I put both down cause "football" can be a different game depend on where you're from
I want a question on one of the future yugioh quizzes to be " Which of these cards is not 'Umi'." And then have any of the duzen or so cards that are eather always treated as umi, or treated as umi while on the field.
Not gonna lie... I kinda like this idea lol
The next yugioh video should be on the prank kids monsters. They have some interesting names lol
Wait, MYSTIC POTATO IS REAL!?
It is pretty new
