Get a 6hp Tohatsu as it shares the same block as that Mercury 5 hp so you get an extra 1 hp without adding an ounce. I've owned owned Tohatsus over the last 35+ years and they have all been great little motors.
Hey Nick an Outback displacement hull speed is about 5mph water speed. At speeds less than that it will have a small bow wave and track straight with minimal load on the motor. Speeds above its hull speed will require much more power as his yak will be trying to climb his bow wave. When towing if you can shift weight fwd in the Bote as much as reasonable to get the Bote to plane at 4-5 mph when towing it will significantly reduce motor load. BTW I just received my new Bote yesterday with a 9.9 Hidea. I agree with you on the weight and life is too short to be wrestling 90lbs all the time. Last night I ordered a 6hp Tohatsu from onlineoutboards (both external and internal tank options on Tohatsu and Nissan) I also added the charging and v regulator kits to be able to charge my 12amp lion 12v for df and pp operation. + $407.00 ouch.
Where did you get the ball mounts for your rod holders? I have a note rover too but cannot find the right size screw mounts. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
sweet dude. i picked up an areo rover a few weeks back. ive had it on the marsh a good bit.... I really like it with the merc 5 i bought I'm struggling in the wind when paddling.tight lines bro
Wow man, very interesting video. I am waiting on my Rover to arrive here in Costa Rica and am planning to go buy a motor next week. My options are the Suzuki 6hp or 9.9. I was originally leaning towards the 6 for the big weight difference and I thought it would be plenty to push the Rover but lately I’ve spoken to a few guys with Rovers and they have ALL told me to go for the 9.9. Even the guys at Bote suggested that to me on one of their IG posts. I hear you on the weight difference though. I live a few hundred yards from the beach and often just roll my outback down...was thinking I could do the same with the Rover. That extra 50 lbs. is a BIG difference for that. Man, I don’t know what to do. I will be using this in open ocean and I don’t need to fly, but I don’t want to feel bogged down either if I’m coming in with all my gear and 50 lbs of tuna. If I thought the 6 would meet my performance needs I would much rather go that direction, just not sure. If you have any additional thoughts on the two I would love to hear them. Thanks.
I have a 5 hp on mine and I'm going to be upgrading to a 9.9. I want the extra speed. As for you if you're not loading and unloading it out of a truck, just rolling down the beach, id say get the 9.9
So I'm in between something like a bote or skanu to get into marsh fishing, went on a east cape and the skinny fishing is fun, how tippy is the bote? I've fallen out of my hobie AI and outback and I sold both because I would get hit by a wake and get fall out lol.
I remember when you got the 9.9HP for the Bote Rover and me telling you that outboard was too heavy and you should get a 6HP and lighten up instead even if it meant losing 3-4 mph. Its always fine when its brand new, but then you do the whole launch and recovery thing out the back of your truck and its just too much. The 9.9HP is better off being on a boat that will be on a trailer.
Hangkai 6 horse 2 stroke 37 pounds. Identical to the Nissan/Mercury before the government ruined it and they had to build 4 strokes. I can get parts from my Mercury dealer.
Go with the 6 hp, I can get 16-18 mph depending on the trim and load. Also, I’ve been using the wilderness systems heavy duty kayak cart and it is light-years ahead of what Bote offers.

with a lot of small outboard motors , just changing (the manufactures) the carberators makes the horse power difference.
Very cool. Had no issues towing the extra kayak and your buddy.
I look at you from Hungary, this is completely new to me, thank you very much for the experience.
It'll be super light for you if you let Daniel carry the Bote for you every time!! Lol. Great vid Nick.
Lmfao!
Smart guy hey guys feel how light it is and take it closer to the water lol
Top Notch as always Nick. 👍 Thanks for sharing. Tight Lines and Full Limits to Ya.!
Thanks!
Man i miss going out to eat with my buddies. Amazing little skiff!!
Kayak fishing ok
Good job guyss
Your friend needs to put tags on that kayak with that motor before the GW give your buddy a ticket
Didn't know you would find sheepshead in the marsh. Enjoyed the video. Been thinking of getting a solo skiff so thanks for the tips.
Man that thing looks amazing

Another great vid. Good stuff. Still not sold on Bote or Skiff. Think imma bring out my Achilles SPD 330
great video as always. I think I will go with the 6hp for mine.
I think you will be happy with that decision.
Where did you locate the gas cans?

Appreciate it
Will you take the rover offshore?
Where did you dock from?
How much are they with the motor

was the 6hp motor 2stroke or 4stroke?
4

The Mercury is made by Tohatsu.
Yamaha is rated the quietest motor
Yamaha is a nice motor.
Great video Nick be a good idea to downsize so that five or six horse save you 50 lb in weight that's a lot of weight
Darn guess I missed the invite

I’ll probably go with the 5 or 6. That wilderness cart is money.
@@RXAngler the 5 and 6 are the same weight and you will loose a few mph with the 5
Music credit?
does mark pay a tow fee. lol. great vid.
He bought me some beer.
good man😅
You only used twice the bote rover
Buy a Tohatsu
i fish were yall fish
Great video! Just subbed. What do you think of the inflatable Rover?
Thanks! The inflatable isn’t for me and the type of fishing I like to do. It would get cut up from all the oyster we have down here.
Hello Friend I would like to buy a boat just like yours please can you help me by passing the link or store website to buy a boat thank you.
Gheenoes are way better and same price and can go a lot faster
Don’t see how a smaller engine is an upgrade, yeah it’s lighter but I would rather have a 10 hp then a little 6
would be nice if you could add more brightness to your footage😓😓😓
Disrespecting Waffle House like that? Not cool.
