I bought my wife a 1.0 many years ago and she absolutely loved it. We just replaced it with the Shield Plus OR with the CT Red Dot last December. She really liked the texture of the Plus. I did have failure to feed issues right out of the box, as I've learned is a common problem. I sent it back to S&W and they corrected the issue and returned it within a couple of weeks. Put a couple hundred rounds through with zero issue and now the confidence of a reliable tool is there. Sold the 1.0 and still got $300 for it. Not too shabby. Appreciate your honest, no nonsense, regular guy type videos.
I've bought the Shield four times -- the original, the 2.0, the Shield Plus, and the Shield Plus OR. I've tried other carry guns and keep coming back to the Shield. It's just the best pointing, best shooting, most comfortable and natural carry gun I've tried.
Great review! Thank you!! My Performance Center Shield, 2.0 is the best shooter in my stable (along with the Glock 19X). The magic is that 18-degree grip angle. The most naturally pointing pistols around!
love mine. I got the one with optics cut. small with 13 chances. spare mags are small too. t shirt and cargo shorts all day. Safariland 27 holster so comfortable.
My neighbor suggested that I get the shield plus. The gun I was replacing it with is the Sig Sauer P225 which has an eight round capacity. When I was in the gun store, they didn’t have any of the shield pluses but they did have a 2.0 for a nice $330! When I put the gun in my hand, it was such a good fit that I could not resist the purchase. Although a 13 round magazine would be nice. That wasn’t my main purpose for switching carry guns it was merely aboutease of conceal ability so there was no loss there and not to mention the $330 price tag to boot.
thanks for the video, I purchased a S&W 9mm 3-4 years before the banned sale of handguns here in Canada, already had a 45 Colt, and a 73' Super Blackhawk(44 Mag), promised myself i would touch "scary black guns" I also bought 6 mags for the 9, which comes in handy when i bought the S&W FPC, it comes with 3 mags, range day is fun times
I got the performance center shield plus and it’s money. Upgraded the grip with handle it grips, got the magguts magazine extender, and the TLR 6. Amazing EDC.
Thanks for the S&W videos. These firearms are available in my area, and I see them at sale prices pretty regularly. I look forward to seeing your videos for the good quality items at a reasonable price. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Really appreciate this breakdown. I was late to the Shield 2.0 party, but am glad I showed up. Got to handle one made in TN recently, and the trigger was crisper than models made a couple of years ago. With a sample size of two, that could be an anomaly.
I have both of these pistols and they are awesome. I picked up the original shortly after they came out and carried it for years. The plus has been my daily carry since I got it, and it’s just about the perfect carry gun.
Love my original Shield. Saving up for the plus but I’m in California so there’s no rush. Only upgrade would be the trigger and 2 more rounds. Great video brother.
Had a 1.0 several year's ago. Didn't really like it. Picked up the 2.0 first Gen. When they still hade the curve trigger. Sold that. About 2 months ago Picked up a 2.0 with the blade trigger. Love it. It's a keeper. Put About 100 rnds through it every weekend. Love it so much. That i just picked up the 2.0 10mm 4 inch. Fun to shot hard hitting. And utterly reliable.
Important video. I have been on the fence about the 2.0 versus the 2.0 max, you've answered my questions. Also, printability and trigger are so critical. Thanks and great job.
I have a shield plus pc and use a 15 rnd mag. Barely any longer for the grip but just enough to have my pinky completely on the grip as well.and now i have 15+1
I have the Shield 2.0 and the Plus. Both great guns and shoot very well. I also have the 365, XL, X, and SAS. Can’t leave out my 43X with the S15 mags and my 42. Some days I have to flip a coin to decide what I’m gonna carry. Most days it’s what I can conceal the best.
It is the opinion of a growing number of people, myself included, that the M&P platform in general is now the best of the "Big Three" (the other two being Glock and Sig). I have a feeling that the 3.0 is in the works and will have some features that will make it even more popular (the biggest thing that they need to do is a deeper factory optic cut that's competitive with the P365 and the Echelon). I have a Shield 1.0 but will soon be getting the 2.0 Compact with the 4" barrel. Can't wait!
I made my Shields into Subcompacts. I Bought used a 9mm Shield. Changed out the trigger. Installed a 3 5/8 inch Threaded Barrel from Faxon, New Sites (Front Site bent), A Hogue Grip.. Also have a 9mm Shield Plus and installed a 3 5/8 inch True Precision Threaded Barrel. Also a Hogue Grip. Great Stability and Accuracy. Shooting 12 ounces hanging Beer cans 20 yards easy and 40 yards Body size Targets. Reliability 100 present. Even with no Optic Cuts nor light rail, I am Very Vary happy with them.
Glad they finally upgraded the trigger. I hated that hinge trigger they'd been using. Might check out the newer M&P 2.0s in compact / full, but missing an optic cut slide is a dealer killer for me in current year.
I've carried the original Shield in .40 cal for 12 years. I upgraded the trigger to an Apex Tactical, but other than that nothing else. It's a bitch during long sessions at the range, but reliable and sturdy. Looking at the Plus in 9mm to replace it. Great video. Thanks
Looking to purchase a CCW weapon. Looking at this model and there SOOO many to choose from. Can't really tell the difference between the 10+ models of the shield and shield plus.
I'll be the geek -- the width of the 1.0 is 0.95" and width of the Plus is 1.1" ... for some shooters, it makes a world of difference, and ironically, that seems to be the case for shooters with smaller hands.
I’m sure the Shield Plus is great, but I’m still happy with my 1.0 and a spare mag (which I would carry regardless). When I was a Federal LEO (now retired) I carried 3 extra mags for my Glock. Capacity was a real thing then. I gotta tell you, for civilian concealed carry, capacity isn’t as important as you believe (unless you can’t hit your target). Be accurate with what you carry & then you can carry what you want.
That’s not a joke, it’s a reference to the limbic system, the portion of the brain related to survival instincts, nicknamed the “lizard brain” because it’s a portion of the brain we share with reptiles and birds.
Optic Ready version will take Holosun 407K/507K direct mount as well as SwampFox Sentinel direct mount. Use a plate to get more adjustment in elevation if you need to. Night Fision sights rock on this gun.
The 🛡+TS tlr6 🚫lasers are the best niche carry/backup pistols out 🏋🏾♂️🏃🏽♂️👨🏾🏫, most comfy EDC budget combo the 🛡+ tlr6 and the 🪶👑 OG SD9VE w/tlr7A ,the SDs will fit all MP9 tlr1/7 holster as well but the MP9/40 3.6’s😴 over G23/26 for the money as the G26/23/21 are the only 3 glocks you’ll ever need
I had both a Shield Plus and a P365XL for a while. I really, really wanted to like the XL more but … I just shoot the Shield better. Still have the Shield, the XL went down the road.
Only thing I don't like about the original Shield is, my right inside middle finger at the middle knuckle hurts like a fkr from recoil. Where the back of the trigger guard meets the magwell is what's getting me. I'm wondering if you've noticed that as well. Did they possibly relieve that area a little more in the 2.0?
I carried the original shield (and still have it) when I was living in a communist New England state with magazine restrictions. 2-1/2 years ago when I moved to the southeast, the first thing I did was buy the Shield Plus and I love it!!!!
Shield Plus takes the 15 round mags from the M&P Equalizer. If you need fascist mags for those restricted 2A violating places that call themselves “States”, the Shield Plus comes with 10 round mags. Get the Pierce Grip Pinky mag attachment and you are G2G.
My Shield Plus shoots like a bigger gun. Watch the pin on the trigger safety, they like to walk out....Had to send mine back for that, my only complaint and easily fixed by S&W...
The Shield Plus flush fit magazine holds 10 rounds. Sounds like you're stating 13. Why are you calling it 2.0 when you're talking about Shield Plus. I appreciate what you do
Anyone know why Smith & Wesson didn't just come out with the 10/13 capacity version to begin with? Seems like an Apple play just to get people to buy similar hardware multiple times... which is why I'm still stuck with the 1.0. Don't care if that thing gets stolen, not a big deal :)
I was relieved to see him have to two thumb the slide release. Here I thought I was just a noddle-armed nancy who couldn't drop the slide on his own pistol but seeing this guy have the same problem made me feel a little more manly, or I guess a little less unmanly.
Shield Plus was my first ever firearm purchase. I bought it the week it dropped. It’s still my carry, and I keep the M&P 2.0 as my nightstand blaster.
The Shield Plus is also my EDC since the day I got it 18 months ago. I've put about 5500 rds through it.
Same bough my shield plus little over a year ago and still carry it to this day. Just all around an amazing concealed carry!!
The same here on nightstand versus carry.
I like my shield plus. The triggers in the 2.0 is awesome. They also make a 15 round mag for the shield plus
Yes I just bought my 15 round mag for mine. I love it!!

Loved the Shield 1.0 and now the Plus. Great micro compacts.
I was just looking at Shields the other day. This is very helpful. Thanks!
I appreciated the video as one that is deciding to go from a 1.0 to the Shield Plus
I got the performance center shield plus and it’s money. Upgraded the grip with handle it grips, got the magguts magazine extender, and the TLR 6. Amazing EDC.
Have had my Sheild in .40 about a decade. Great backup working in and around Cleveland.
Thanks, Coch! Looking forward to more content on your PFI Coch channel, too!

I have the Shield in 45.. for hot weather carry, and I love it.
I was going to pick up the plus.
But got the 365 xmacro instead.

They look great man thank you for the review
I really enjoy these gun reviews from Coch

I have the M&P 9mm M2.0 Compact. It isn't bad.👌🏽
Got a 40 original Shield, 2.0 9mm Shield, and Shield Plus!!! Love em all!!! 40 has 17k rounds through it

Got a great deal on a S&W M&P9 SHIELD PLUS W/CTS1500 1-10 2-15 RD MAGS. Not sure what Gen it is but I guessing it's Gen 1.

Frogman keeping it real! Point and shoot. Love my Shield Plus.

Thanks for the review, could you please print the names of the holsters you use with your TLR6 and which you recommend.
Wish i had gotten the shield plus.
Who makes the holster? Looked up Molon labe and didn’t find a holster company with that name? Thanks for the video.
Tulster makes a great shield plus holster.

that's the one place on most of my polymer frame pistols that I smooth out with a little sand paper, or, if it's a Glock, a Dremel.
The Shield 2.0 has a much improved trigger (still hinged) than the 1.0. The Shield Plus is slightly heavier but the trigger is as good as it gets.
Is that a laser light combo? If so, which one is it. Thanks!
TLR 6 it attaches to the trigger guard.
I have the 2.0 45 with factory Lazer. What's a good holster?
In Commiefornia the shield is $400 the plus is $570. Is the plus $170 better? Kind of sounds like it is
Yes it is. Performance center is like $650. Also worth it.

Just got a used shield plus for 260$ w a 10, 13, and 15 rd mag in the box. Fantastic for the price and it disappears when u carry it
No optic cut?
They do make them with RMRc optic cut and night sights.
One at my LGS was available with night sights and an optics cut for ~$450 out the door.
Honestly, in a citizen shooting situation does one really need 13+rnds? GIs went into combat w/8 in a Garand.
