  • Here is where I got my Spigot kit amzn.to/309eReO This kit is the easiest to work with on closed top rain barrels, some other kit (which sells for cheaper) that had the thread going towards inside of the rain barrel is only good for open top rain barrels where you can access the interior wall of the barrel so make sure you get the one from the link.
You also need a 1 1/4" spade drill bit amzn.to/2JlksrM and a drill amzn.to/302nqbi if you are installing a brand new fitting on your brand new rain barrel.
Have some sort of wires and a weight ready as well as you'll need to fish the fitting into the barrel (I used fishing lines)

Using a bent coat hanger you can shoot the fitting into the hole

Use a small enough weight on the drop down line, then fish the small weight (nut) out of your spigot hole. Secure the weighted end so it can’t be pulled back in during the next step. Hold other end of line and run it through the male bulkhead piece, male end down. Let the male bulkhead piece slide down the line to you spigot hole cutout and using your finger, one chopstick or whatever, bring the male end through the spigot hole and secure to your barrel with the bulkhead nut. Lastly, pull the weight end of the line, removing the line. No big metal piece stuck in your barrel! You’re welcome😊

A little plumber's teflon tape on the threading when putting together the spigot assembly would be helpful. Thanks for the video!

I am getting one of these barrels. I wondered how I would out one of these in. Haha. Helpful indeed.
I wonder if I could just cut the top off? Install the part then put the top back on.
Say I got a peace of PVC that was bigger than the top of this. Then I cut it just and inch or so larger than the top. Next I could just make a ring around it and lay it on top.

Wow! This is great! Just wondering if this would work well for a 55 gallon steel drum, and if I could put a spigot on the bottom for use with heating oil to heat my garage. I was thinking of standing it upright on a stand about a foot off the floor, and then fitting it with a flare fitting adapter on the spigot, then running 3/8" copper tubing to a furnace. Will this valve set up work on a steel drum, and will the gasket resist leaking with heating oil or kerosene? Thanks.

Get or make teflon gasket, itll work fine! Or research what stands up to liquid your working with, you dont want a leak when drum is full!
