  • This is a demonstration of installing a spigot on a standard plastic 55 gallon drum. Even if you only have a small hole on the top of the barrel you can easily install a spigot while maintaining a good seal.

    Fish the string through first, then slide the properly oriented fitting down the tightrope. It helps position the fitting and you have no string on the threaded side to cut or deal with.

      You can make a wire hook to capture the free string end if needed. Tying a small weight or nut on the end of the guide string with allow the string to be held taught and directed toward the faucet opening by tilting the barrel towards the hole.

    You don’t show the most important part. How to take out the threaded piece from inside the barrel through the tight hole?
    That’s my only question. The rest is simple

    The thing I can't understand to save my life is why anyone has to do this at home. Can't the people who make these water barrels figure out that people are going to need spigots on the barrels? They weigh 450 pounds when they're full. No one in his right mind wants to tip one of these things over to try and get the water out, and yet, they make spigots that attach to the holes on the top. What do you think will happen when you try to tip this barrel over? Hint: it's round. You don't have to have an engineering degree to figure out that these barrels need spigots on the bottom, and you don't need an economics degree to figure out that if they're made that way people will buy them. Why can't I find this for sale online without having to make it myself? Has the whole world gone mad?!

      Are you kidding?? Non of these barrels started out as water barrels…

    • @MyVisualRomance
      @MyVisualRomance ปีที่แล้ว

      You must not be looking in the right places. I see them for sale everywhere online. Like someone else said already none of these barrels were originally made for rain barrels. They were made to transport liquids to companies that manufacture the final products that they sell.

    So this means you can use a pressure washer with this since it has a spigot, correct?

    The thing about this system is you have to have a good filter so that the barrel is not so dirty. Those gunk will pile up fast inside the barrel but is not so much issue for plants use.

    • @BumbuClaw
      @BumbuClaw ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if you’re gonna install a showerhead it’s recommended to have the barrel at least chest height or above so that gravity feeds that showerhead and there’s enough pressure for it to actually work. Install of a showerhead as simple as screwing it into whatever faucet.

  • @lw7967
    @lw7967 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    We do it a bit easier for us old folks but your concept is good and glad you made a video.
    Take a piece of paracord about 2 1/2 times the height of the barrel. No need to cut the cord, just make sure you have enough. In the very middle of that length of cord, tie on a 2 inch flat washer. Larger, if your mount is bigger. Just use a tight half knot so it doesn't slip around. You can untie it later. Anything you use must be larger than the inside mount.
    Next slip cord inside the mount, do not tie on! Be sure it is facing AWAY from large washer. The washer is what will hold it up against the inside barrel wall. Now, at the very end of the cord, on the side of the inside mount, tie on a smaller washer or nut that can go thru the new hole.
    Drop small washer and cord into barrel but leave inside mount and large washer on top of barrel until you get cord & small washer out the new hole or your inside mount will fall off the cord!
    We used a magnetic wand to grab the small washer and pulled it thru the new hole. You could make a wire hook also. You can take off the small washer if it will not go back thru the inside mount, you just need to be able to pull that cord out the bottom hole to pull the inside mount into place.
    Ok, now, pull the cord out from the bottom hole all the while also holding onto the top cord and drop the inside mount and large washer into the barrel [great to have help here). Pull the mount and large washer down into the barrel. Hang on to that top cord... you have to pull it back out!
    Keep pulling the bottom cord and it will pull the inside mount into place and the large washer will hold it there. Hold bottom cord tightly while you screw on the outside mount. You will have to slip cord inside the mount. Tighten but do not break anything!
    Untie the small washer and pull the upper cord up and out along with the large washer and you are done.
    We like using paracord because we don't have to worry about it breaking. Good luck!
