I have the DJI Pocket 2 and I'm a big fan of this controller. I get good shots and more control and smoothness using the extension rod. I got it as a gift but would have invested in it myself because I like the way it operates
Been playing with this today. I'm in love. Can't tell you what a pleasure it is to have a joystick, plus you can change from video to photo; change modes from Follow to FPV to Tilt Lock; initiate recording/snapshot; and it gives you control over all three axes. Of course, the extender doesn't, and couldn't, solve the problem of not being able to use your phone and utilize an external mic at the same time. I'm not technical enough to know if this is something that a firmware update could address, but it is mind-boggling that users have to choose between two important features.
Just received my DJI extension rod. Again, I rather dislike the "instructions" that come with the item. So, as I did last time when I received my Osmo Pocket, I viewed the video by Air Photography and was led through the usage and what-not of the equipment. Thank you for posting these helpful videos.
Adam Gibbs I just got this and I’m wondering if the mic would plug into the charging port of the Bluetooth module. Ill try that later. I think I have the adapter for c port to mic.
💥 … with new firmware 1.09.00.20 now an external microphone works with the extension rod + audio adapter … unfortunately not with the wireless module added 💥
When they introduced the Osmo Pocket I wanted the camera and the extension rod. Now I know why DJI saved it for last. This eliminates the need for the most of the expansion pack and all the 3rd party accessories. If this had come out day one with the WiFi module I’d have saved at least $100 . DJI....got me again
If you want to utilize your phone you still need the wifi module or a pesky dangling cable though. I dont know why they didnt build either or into this extension.
I'm not sure I understand? You still need the expansion kit if you want wireless. The problem is I want an external mic. So, looks I can either have wireless or mic, but not both. But wait...if I remove wireless, I would still need the bottom connected via lightning cable to my iphone, still preventing me from using my mic! Damn...looks like the extension rod is pointless for me!
I use my tripod boom, as it disconnects, a boom pole cell phone holder, a tripod mount and a longer cable to connect my phone. This thing doesn't extend enough to be worth anything. You need longer extension for a good looking crane shot. You'll also have much better reach in a variety of situations. I wouldn't spend $20 on it.
Great video, however, can you tell me how to connect the mic to the Pocket after you put the Wireless connection for remote control at the bottom of the pocket, please.
I have this thing but there's a problem. If I use the wireless module, I can't use the mic adapter the same time if I connect it to the wireless adapter's USB c port. It's not recognized 🙄 If I connect my Ulanzi base module with two USB c ports, I still can't use the mic adapter. It seems that using any other USB c connection disables the mic adapter... So the design is pretty much screwed, there's no way to use this thing with phone and mic same time. Does anyone have different experience?
DJI should really make this compatible with the Action as you mentioned!!! Such a great idea and I will definitely buy one. The Action screen is too small for me.
It would have been so easy to have a rechargeable power bank battery in the grip that would even charge osmo. That kind of an addition would have made this extension rod good to amazing. Instead it drains the battery in osmo pocket now. I know it may increase the price a little but I would not mind paying more for the convenience that kind of a solution would bring. DJI engineers does great things producing amazing products. I do not want to believe that this important details slipped their mind. I love this extension rod. But it would have been amazing if there is that small addition.
I agree I think that would’ve been a good addition. Some have said they may have left it out because it would add too much weight but I don’t think a small battery would’ve added that much weight to the set up
Yes but...if you are using the wifi connection to the phone, you can't use the microphone adapter. You have to connect mic to phone [wires or wifi depending on mic]
Great review. Will really made the learning curve very short. There is no way I could have ever figured out all of the cool things this device does. Thanks
Very complete review. I have already made my own, but obviously without remote control buttons on the handle. Pretty close though for less than $30 invested and no battery drain on the Pocket. Would be interested to see a “How to” on crane/jib shot techniques. Thanks.
Thank you for the demo. You show that it's possible to attach the microphone, but what about the wire from the microphone to the cam..? Is the mic in, free on the cam..? And do you know if the pocket 2 also fit into the rod..?
you have to connect either mic or phone, sadly you can’t do both. Or can you? is there any solution? i bought it today and pretty disappointed because of that
when you use the wireless module to connect the osmo pocket to your phone, how do you plug the external mic to the osmo then? yes the wireless module has a usb c port, but will it works if you plug the 3.5mm adapter to the wireless module? or is there any other way to make this possible?
As I have heard, mic adapter will not work through the charging port in the wireless module. So basically, with this there is no way you can have both phone and external mic. I am still surprise a company making these great products just ignore these minor but important details.
I got one of these extension rods and was a bit disappointed. Mainly because I like to have an external microphone for better sound + have a connection to my iPhone. There is no way to make this happen with current connectivity limitations. If you plug in a wireless adapter.. can't plug in the audio adapter. I think they need to come out with a wireless adapter that can accomodate use of an external microphone.
It does have USB C port but mic adapter does not work at the present time maybe they could enable that with a firmware update but knowing DJI probably bring out another adapter we have to buy to use this function
Can I use this stick and DJI pocket as a WebCam + Zoom on iPhone? Sound is important so I will use a Road microphone - in that case what is my set up and wire connections look like for iPhone 12 see lightning?
I do have a question though - where is that cold shoe mic plugged? if Osmo is connected to the phone with a cable, does that mean I need a splitter of some sorts to plug it into Osmo/phone?
like what dji have done with the 3.5 audio jack they will want you to buy seperate devices so what works for the pocket will not work for the action etc. Thanks for your video i have one of these on order for myself. its great to see it coming out at a cheaper price than we all expected.

After watching your video I ordered the extendable arm and I also ordered the Bluetooth module and a shotgun microphone but my question is if you are installing the bluetooth module in the osmos where are you going to attach the mic for sound
Is there a specific type of USB-C to USB-C cable your using? Nice device but for me too short. I bought an extendable selfie stick for my DJI Pocket 2 which extends up to 3 m. What I would love to see is the remote joystick so I could use hardware control while my camera is at the end of my stick or left a few meters from me. Unfortunately, I haven't found it so far. I don't think it exists.
Nice review, but you didn't mention the full gimbal lock function, which seems to escape the notice of most reviewers of this and the controller wheel accessory - and it's kind of important. The Pocket has a three axis gimbal. Standalone, the Pocket enables you to lock horizon, and horizon-and-tilt. What you can't do is to lock the 3rd axis (pan) as well, so it's kind of hobbled in that respect. It's not even possible with the Mimo app. But attach the controller wheel or the extension rod, and you now have comprehensive control of all three axes via the full lock function. Simply press and hold the top right button (on either accessory) and voila, full lock. Now you can waggle the camera handle or the extension rod as much as you like, and the gimbal head will stay pointing in the same direction. Using this with the extension rod, you can even pull out the extending sections mid-shot and it won't show in your footage. I think I'm going to have to sit down and prepare a '101 gimbal tutorial' video for Pocket users - there seems to be a lot of confusion over the gimbal modes and how to control the gimbal. Even DJI don't provide much guidance.

Hi, question. Nice informative video. However, when you hook up your usb-c to lightning cable from the apple phone to the osmo pocket, all of the lightning to usb-c cables I see on amazon say they're just for charging. And I know people have been burned before, and I've always read that consumers have to be careful that the adaptor cables they buy are not just charging cables, but are able to transfer audio and video. What make of cable did you use? thanks.
Sucks, you wanna use the phone as a viewfinder, you loose the freaking port for an external microphone. Can't they just think of everything? God Dammit
@@magnuskallas Hey buddy, bad news - it doesn't work. You just have to use this Rod and decide whether you want to hook up an external Mic or Phone as an extra monitor. Not yet, I just actually got my pocket to and it arrived late. So I’m gonna play with it for a bit do a review and also while include what accessories are compatible including the rod
I'm using it now with my Pocket 2 - works fine. I have the Creator Combo which includes the Do-It-All Handle that comes with a wireless mic and also provides a WiFi connection to the phone/tablet.
Ok, fine tool. But the external microphone never got hooked up. Why? Because there’s no socket left to connect it to. The connection adapter is removed, so the phone as monitor takes up the bottom usb-c socket. And that’s where the microphone adapter would have been connected.
Good afternoon I’ve just purchased one of these extension rods and I didn’t know if there’s a particular setting to stop the bounce on the gimbal please 👍
I am a little late to the game. Looking to purchase the pocket but I am doing research 1st. I don't see in the video or the comments. How far/long is the extension? Thanks!
thanks for your video. It makes me finally take the decissión. That cold shoe mount that nobody confirms in other videos neither dji does it at their website is a key for me. Paired with a rode wireless go it is exactly what i was waiting to confirms. To me dji osmo pocket will be perfect if they fix some troubles: for instance, using the wireless module and the audio adapter at the same time it is not possible. That makes the dji osmo pocket quite useless that it would be without that small attention to details. Anyway, thanks for your video.
I think it kind of defeating the usefulness of the remote switches on the handle of the extender when you can operate all the things you need with the DJI Mimo app. It will only be useful if you can also connect the phone with the Osmo Pocket without using the wifi device or cable. Otherwise, you can achieve the same result by using an ordinary extender rod with a phone clipper, and it is much much cheaper.
You have a point, but I think buttons you can feel are easier to use, if you're planning to do lots of shots where you're not standing still. Another example: I'm getting it to film from an electric skateboard and will need one hand free for the boards controller.
Hi there! grand video! For my Osmo Pocket, I use an Iphone SE, which is 6 cm wide. In the mobile holder, do you think it can look good horizontally? Or is the support measure wider? Thank you for answering that question, I want to buy it!

I can charge the osmo pocket with wireless module connected to the osmo pocket. Is it necessary if we use audio adapter and using this rod?
is it possible to connect external microphone while DJI osmo pocket is attached with wireless module or connected to the phone using cable?
Is the extension rod compatible with Osmo Pocket 2?
Yes it is I believe
@@AirPhotography Thanks
Ok, fine tool. But the external microphone never got hooked up. Why? Because there’s no socket left to connect it to. The connection adapter is removed, so the phone as monitor takes up the bottom usb-c socket. And that’s where the microphone adapter would have been connected.
How long the USB cord has to be to using this?
can this work with the Osmo pocket 2?
Great video. 👌
Do you know if it works with pocket 2?
It does
Thanks for the overview. What is the overall length when collapsed?
9 3/8" (23.8cm)

Thank you.
Good afternoon I’ve just purchased one of these extension rods and I didn’t know if there’s a particular setting to stop the bounce on the gimbal please 👍
اكثر من رائع. اشتريت وحدة وجاري تنزيل فيديوهات ،، ابداع
Good job 👍🏻
Can you use it for overhead videos?
Yes of course it’s perfect for getting shots up high
So the rod powered by the osmo pocket battery? Will it drain the battery quite fast?
I don’t think it will it’s only a 65 mah Battery so that’s pretty small. I think it just needs a little bit of power so the buttons will work
@@AirPhotography It's just to provide a signal voltage for turning on the camera in the first place - miniscule drain.
Can you put powerbank ?
I am a little late to the game. Looking to purchase the pocket but I am doing research 1st. I don't see in the video or the comments. How far/long is the extension? Thanks!
Very helpful, even 4 years later!
I have poket 1 , Can I use the stand?
Yes, it is designed for pocket 1
thanks for your video.
You have a point, but I think buttons you can feel are easier to use,
if you're planning to do lots of shots where you're not standing still.
Another example: I'm getting it to film from an electric skateboard
and will need one hand free for the boards controller.
@@A_Haunted_Pancake Yes, Having used one, I agree.
May we get the link for the cube light please, and i have a rode mic but not wireless which do you use
Hi, nice video. You added a mic to the rod - how is that connected, when you are using your phone (cable/wireless)?
It does not... should have read the comments below first...
How would you use the external mic and still have the phone hooked up?
Hi there! grand video! For my Osmo Pocket, I use an Iphone SE, which is 6 cm wide. In the mobile holder, do you think it can look good horizontally? Or is the support measure wider? Thank you for answering that question, I want to buy it!
