    1911 and the budget... my wife blew a head gasket recently when she found out how much I dropped on mine. The smile on her face after she got over it and held it in her hands a few days later was priceless tho. Totally worth spending a few nights in the dog house.

    When I think 1911 I don't think 9mm or double stack... If I was going for a first it would most definitely be a real traditional 1911.

    • @55Quirll

      Same here, I have a smaller grip so a double stack would not be that comfortable for me. Though I might see how a commander feels in my hands and if it is comfortable than I would get one in single stack. What he says about STI is true, they are good guns and cheaper. STI Spartan is a good gun at a good price, last I saw it was about $650, though the price may have changed. Take care now.

And both 5" and 6" Government models in 10mm for more rural uses. And while doing this have been slowly improving the quality and features and keeping the controls consistent.

    1911 isn’t really something you can “advise” people on. Each person shopping for a 1911 can have a completely different reason for owning one. The gun is by far the most versatile when it comes to application. CCW, HD, Safe Queen, Range gun, Race gun, Hunting, Collecting...etc. So this question really has no answer without a conversation with the buyer.

Perfect round for self defense while out on the town and when I go into the woods I slap in a Wilson Combat mag loaded with some Underwood hard cast or Leigh defense extreme penetrators. For a lot of new buyers the one I have been pushing a lot of people to lately has been the Springfield Ronin Operator. You can get it in a Government or Commander length in 9mm or gods caliber 45. For the package you get under $900 its really hard to beat. I am running a commander in 9mm as my main carry gun. Comes with great sights, very nice trigger, good overall looking pistol in 2 tone. Safety feels good nice smooth action. Slide to frame fit is great as well. Just my opinion. I try to push people towards a 1911 first just because I am a bit of a tradionalist but also a modern traditionalist so I wont feel bad pushing someone towards a 9mm 1911. I do love my 2011's but you made a really good point about the price of entry into those and for some people that just ends up being to much. That may change when I finally get my hands on a Bul Armory SAS but as of now I push them towards the single stack gun.

    I have three 1911A1s. Dan Wesson Vigil CCO (Commander size/ Officers aluminum frame) Kimber Ultra Covert carry, and a Tisas 1911A1 USMC full size. (parkerized finish) I carry the DW Vigil. All are .45acp. 2011s are great, but too heavy and bulky for concealed carry. Great on the range, or for uniformed cops. Especially SWAT.

Recently getting into actually purchasing guns after years of reading and watching videos and being unable to purchase one in the previous state in which I lived. 1911 is just a classic look. When I think of a pistol from movies or video games or something, I think of a polished 1911. Would love to have one someday.

    Staccatos atart around $2000 for a base C2. Which is the 3.9 inch barrel. I have both 1911s both full size and Micros 9s, all Kimbers and a C2 and a P Staccato. I've found a Stainless Mirco 9 for $450 and most of my Kimbers, 3,4,5 in run in the $650 to $850 range. I bought both of my Staccatos for $2000 a piece. I used to carry my Kimber Tactical Pro II as my EDC, have now moved to the C2. BOTH are great shooting guns. I just like the Staccato for the fact that I can carry more ammo. 16 rounds and I can carry my 20 round mags out of the P and use them if I need it.

    Was introduced to the 1911 in army officers training in 1980. Since then I have owned some 10 1911s from POS AMT Hardballer to Springfield TRP to Colt Government to Sig TT, to Colt Officers. I currently have 2 Les Baers, a full size Custom Carry and the Concept VII Commander size. Also have an Ed Brown Special Forces full-size, Colt Commander tuned by Terry Tussey, and a Springfield Ronin wirh a tuned 3.5 pound trigger. I have an HK VP9 l, Springfield SA 35, Browning High Power, and the FN FNX. 45. But the best feel and fit in my hands remain the 1911. I had one on my hip during the Rodney King Riots in LA in '92, and now I live in a constitutional carry state and my usual carry piece is a 1911 Commander. When I travel, I will usually toss a 1911 in my backpack. Can't beat the trigger and can't beat how easy it can put rounds right on target. I guess I'm an old fud.

    The problem with 9 mil is as a defensive round it is going to cost you more. More rounds to put your target down, more seconds of being in danger. 45 acp has more stopping power with less rounds

    • @robinx4231
      @robinx4231 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But 9mm rounds are cheaper.
      9mm rounds actually penetrate better but don't dump energy into soft body like 45.a 9mm is more versatile as it can go through solid stuff better (doors etc)..the cheaper ammo means more range time and easier to get everywhere. The 9mm is less recoil = to better accuracy and therefore follow up shots quicker and more likely to hit..I think ppl only think about the energy of 45 but ignore other useful factors

    • @zenkenshokunin
      @zenkenshokunin หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I concur. The U.S. Military adopted the M9 BECAUSE it had better penetration on armored personnel AND it was lighter/able to carry more ammo. If your target is armored, 9 (I guess), if they're not, 45 ACP.

    The older I get I return to the classic basics. The 4 I use as carry guns through the 4 seasons of the year are classic G.I. In “appearance” however with A-2 Steel Spur Hammers and Sear, a titanium lock work. When I was younger I built mostly carry-race combat automatics similar to what Les Baer would produce. Yet- for me as I get older, more sentimental perhaps.... I’m carrying my hand built G.I. Models because I love Wood, Ivory, and Mastadon.

    If you’re going to get into 1911s, you need a government model in 45 acp and a commander sized 9mm. The 9mm commander could be a 1911 or 2011, but you might as well start saving because you’ll want both. I think the commander length slide works much better for me versus government length slides as it seems to track faster and smoother. The reciprocating mass of government length slide in 9mm feels sluggish to me and it disturbs the sights more returning battery.
