I like your way of defining the subject But in a single beam photometer one should use a slit it's a single beam photometer on a beam of Rays are passed through the sample not light in the former of radiation you should use a prism too it's important to form monochromatic light
We agree with you that absorption spectroscopy requires a monochromatic light. But the instrument discussed here is a photometer. Photometer obtains monochromatic light with the help of a filter as seen in the video. Prism monochromator or diffraction gratings are used in instruments called as spectrophotometers. Hope this clarifies the difference :)
