- Welcome to part two in the Advanced Meshtastic Series where we continue going over the Radio Configuration settings and cover the following config pages:
Position
Power
Network
Display
Bluetooth
We're skipping the LoRa configs as that will need its own video.

Recently discovered your channel and I was just watching the Flashing & Configuration video. it was a nice surprise to see you uploaded 30m ago
Glad you're enjoying the channel! Much more to come!
Thank you for taking the time for these videos!
Sure thing!! More to come!
I have three Heltec V3’s on my desk, two WisBlocks on the way from HongKong and several Soshine solar panels next to me. I now have them and am scoping out high points on the Wirral peninsular to install nodes 🤣 THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! Happy New year bud from the UK and thanks for all the very helpful content.
Haha 😂 Looks like you've been bitten by the bug! Happy New Year to you as well! I'm glad you're finding the videos helpful and good luck with your setup! More content on the way!
Thank you for the support!
Impressive how easy it looks after you explained it :)
Love it! Keep em coming :)
Thank you! Will do!
Excellent information which has answered some of the questions which I had !
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for these videos, very helpful!
You're very welcome! Glad they're helpful!
Thank you for these series of superb videos so far. ✨🏆✨ Question: Is there and/or will there be a way to view more lines of conversation on the T-Deck? If you find out of an update or know of how please share. Thank you.
This is currently an idea for version 3 of Meshtastic. Meshtastic is open source and done by volunteers, so it's hard to say exactly when that will be, but it's a feature a lot of people want so hopefully it will become reality before too long! Thanks for the question and I'm glad you're enjoying the series!
Another Great video, well done and thank you.
Thanks again!
That was really useful to me, thanks so much.
Sure thing! I'm glad it was helpful!
that you very much for your work ! perfect, with some scenarios what settings do
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support!
Interestingly I'm trying to configure a Heltec V3 module to mount in the attic and so I've configured it for connection via Wi-Fi and Web client. When I go to the position configuration section I can turn on "fixed position" but I don't get the option fields to actually put in the lat. and long. info. Is this an oversight of the developers or me? I suppose I could switch it back to bluetooth and configure it with the android app and then switch in back to wi-fi for web client access.
Thanks
Sure thing! Thank you for the continued support! More to come soon!
@@The_Comms_Channel Value your content and want to see the Meshtastic community grow. Its important that we all have access to decentralised systems and its a fun project too! Are you active on the Meshtastic Discord group?
💯💯💯
Yep, I'm on the Discord from time to time! I'm in there as TheCommsChannel
great resource for meshtastic. could you divide these videos into shorts according to specific sections (ie extract just the bluetooth part and publish that).
Good idea! I'll look into doing that.
I wanted to know more about the power setting.
Do you have a video on how to install OLED to a Wisblock?
I have accessed my Heltec V3 via Web using Safari on a Mac and Chrome on Win11, also via the App on IOS devices but I don't get a screen anything like your layout. Is this a different firmware on your device?
Just set up my Heltec v3. I'm in San Diego but dont seem to see anyone around when using the App map. Is there some different settings I need, or is the default settings correct and there just isn't anyone around down here?
Your best bet for finding others is going to be the default settings. It's possible there's no one around, or you just need better placement or antenna. What antenna are you using and where is your device?
If we disable GPS, the power consumption reduces? To me the RAK kit with gps is too warm and the newest RAK12500 just doesn't work, but the older model.
Disabling GPS will save battery. If you're using RAK and don't need GPS, I would just not add the GPS module.
at 4:34 you talk about device configs video, but no link to that video ??
what no one can figure out is how to change the mains power icon or battery power icon ??
and no one explain it clearly
How does GPS work in a scenario where there is no other meshtastic devices to report the location of a device?
Say my dog runs off and has a GPS module on its collar, the dogs collar receives GPS coordinates via satellites to the meshtastic device, but the device can't transmit them to through the meshtastic network back to my device due to terrain/distance?
The collar would need to be in range of your or another node to get the location to you
How did you connect the larger screen?
I'm not sure what you mean. Is there a specific part of the video you can point to?
If you click the licenced Amateur box it messes with channel encryption!
Correct. It turns off encryption to meet FCC regulations for amateur radio use
I understand that I can share channels with a link or QR code. When I do, it shares all of my chats. Is it possible to share a single private chat group without sharing all of them? IE, if I have one group of people that I want to add to one chat, how do I add anotger group of people to a different chat? Thanks
Setting this up in the web client will allow you to select which chats to share and create a specific QR code just for those
Thanks for the great question!
@@The_Comms_Channel thanks!! I appreciate it.
Sure thing!
