0:42 Reporting unwanted calls to the FTC involves filling out boxes and providing information so specific, detailed, and time consuming that you give up after the first few times. Reporting scams, SPAM, and robocalls to the FTC should be a simple thing. It isn't - not by a long-shot.
@@rcor0net304 That's it in a nutshell: the "miracle" of bureaucracy. What starts as a simple, one-step form turns into a Kafkaesque nightmare. How? Because each time another low-level government or corporate flunky shows up, they add two more blanks to fill in.
DO NOT fill out anything for any site that (probably) takes your IP address (use VPN to change that, even free VPN), don't use a real name or real number to report. Actually, *don't report!* Seriously, Verizon offers a basic service and a #3/mo service that "just happens" to block ALL spam calls. _"Somehow."_ I paid for a few months and it worked. I stopped paying, and ...yeah, I have to auto-block.
Here is a question I can't find an answer to....If the caller is calling from a nonworking number and I "block sender", will it block the FAKE number from calling, or the REAL caller from calling??? I block hundreds of fake (nonworking numbers) without knowing whether I'm really blocking anything or not!!!
I set up different ring tones on my cell; one for family, one for friends, one for co-workers, one for companies I deal with, and a default for all others. If the number isn't in my contacts list it get the default ring tone and I just don't answer or reject the call. The land line is connected to a FAX so I hope the scammers enjoy the FAX tones. The system works well until I'm waiting for a call back and don't know what number they'll be calling from.
The good news is that the internet isn't really that complicated and there is a way to track the real phone number or IP address, so when people get fed up with the crap and this fake agency, they can defund it and find a system that works.
I had a man call me to yell, scream and cuss at me for scaring his wife with my calls i told him i didnt call and he continued to yell that it was my number and I had better stop i hung up he called me several more times I finally told him he was a damn fool that scammers clone numbers and to yell at them he stopped calling
I’ve had these scammers use my personal phone number to make spam calls, how do you stop those? I’ve gotten calls from people saying someone from my number just called them, but it wasn’t me and no one else has access to my phone!
There's a huge glaring problem with this supposed system, and the gov. seems to enable it. The apps they're recommending are garbage. They're not supposed to advertise for anyone.
I was scammed by a man with a heavy accent who claimed to be Apple Support. He knew that I had just bought an I PHONE 11. He told me in order to activate it, I needed to pay. I told him " NO it is activated we are talking on it now He said "that is only temporary," He said "you need to go to a 7-11 store or another place that sells gift cards and purchase 2 gift cards for $500.00 each. I said "HELL NO" and hung up the phone. I later called the # back and the person answered "APPLE SUPPORT" with a foreign accent. I hung up and reported it to my local police dept.
I used to get those too. APPLE WILL NOT CALL YOU! Please report it to FCC too, 1888 382 1222 Its a pain the butt, but they wont do anything about it if we just let it go and dont report. Police could care less. Just ask. Facebook currently is selling ppls info to Saudi Arabia. Most are from there.
WHEN are you going to do something for LAND LINES? Phone companies allow 10 total blocked numbers then its FULL! YOU CAN CHANGE THAT. VERY EASILY! They NEVER use the same number 2x unless its a fake cop who wants you to call them back Those numbers dont last long either. This have become OUTRAGEOUS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT? NOTHING! You COULD make it easier to report a call too! Its TIME CONSUMING to report, and you HAVE to listen before you can press the memorized numbers to click. COME ONE FTC....YOU NEED TO DO BETTER!
It's all about time stealing. Saame routines of ppwrk and being put on hold and transfered. All the same slow talking automated systems. You name it, it's all a scam on us. Distracting all from living and shortening lives from accidents from distractions to the stress etc.
Unfortunately, there's just too many calls that come thru. Phone companies should help with this especially with the technology available in this country
And your carrier will be more than happy to provide you with a service to attempt to counter this stuff, in exchange for yet another monthly fee. Carriers don't WANT to stop this stuff because they're getting PAID when they allow it. Consumers get tired of reporting to FTC and never seeing any results. In addition to the pain in the ass of the call itself, we're expected to spend another 5 to 10 minutes filling out the SAME reports we've filled out a dozen times already. No thank you. You (*FTC) want to make a difference? Commission an app that allows users to submit ALL data regarding a call - time, numbers used, trace-logs, IP/MAC's if VOIP is used, etc, and make it mandatory that carriers provide their blocking services at no cost. ISPs are liable for illegal activities across their networks (piracy, etc) why do telecoms get a free pass on this stuff???
This whole system we live in iss more about stealing time than money. All the same red tape and hoops to jump through, all the same routine of waiting on hold, and paperwork etc. Hold let me transfer you. But first have to get through their ads or slow talking automated system. Slow talking...by intent as if we are BB's and can't understand otherwise. FTC is more than likely profiting from their buddy business scammers. ALL puzzle pieces fit on this stealing of time causing stress, distractions, etc.
Keep getting calls from "VISA ACCOUNT SERVICES" but caller ID shows Sentaer Health Services. Since Sentara is very large in this area it appears to be from a hospital. I also get Humana. Another health service. Very annoying.
yes, this is the tired scam they all use till they can think up another apple scam, or threaten to come arrest you if you dont pay. ITs BS...I tell them my phone is tapped by the FCC and now they have your IP address. THey have already arrested 5 call ctrs in India, DR, Somolia, and Africa. They are coming for you next. Click. the number of calls has gone down as they cycle thru thieir list.
I’ve done something similar and my calls went down quite a bit after that. Another time I answered in a very official voice like I was some type of agency and it stopped those calls too!
We keep on getting spam calls with caller ID showing the call is coming from our home phone number. I have call blocked but still getting up to 3 or 4 calls a day. HELP how does someone clone our home phone number to call our home number? I did listen once and it’s t scam from supposedly Microsoft saying our IP address has been compromised. What can I do to stop and have them not clone home phone number?
Peggy, I too have had calls come in that show my own # is calling me. No clue exactly how they're doing this but it is a little funny that these scammers are this careless LOL
Don't fill out forms about a phone number. Ever. It's tripe! If you get a call you don't know, *reject with a text message (any one),* and (at least on Android, old versions) the number that called is *usually different in the notifications* than the number the phone says. Doesn't work with the phone app itself, only with notifications. More: Last night, I got an "unknown" from a state I don't know. BUT the notification matched the phone number. I called back from another phone (cause I'm careful like that 😂 ) and it was a legit number (she had gotten a new cell in college one year, and I don't do FB so we lost touch for several years). Just saying, I wouldn't have even tried to return the unknown if the notif of my text didn't match the "phone app's" reported "missed call" number. That (of course) is a DEFINITE sign of spoofing. They might change THAT TOO one day but it's been working for me all 2020.
Donotcall.gov is a major waste of time and effort. So many of these illegal spammer/scammers spoof a phone number it is impossible to shut them down. In addition many continue call despite requesting to be put on do not call lists. When I feel ornery, I try to keep them on the phone and waste their time. Even call them names.
Thank you for sharing this information. I received a lot of calls late at 2:00 a.m. in the morning. I'm elderly, living along and too stressed of these calls. Also, my Identity is stolen, which I have reported to the police, but nothing was done.
what a joke. I'm going to send this URL along to the Trump DOGE department with a complaint my tax dollars were wasted by the FTC on this ridiculous useless bit of wasted effort.
FTC, thanks for nothing! Really, you can do better - that is, if you want. These cartoons belong in the last century. Goodby FTC, see you when you'll get better...

the only thing that can stop this crap is the telephone companies that process these calls .FTC does nothing to block these calls

All of these choices for home phones require us to pay more money. That is unfair for those on fixed or low incomes. Instead fix the problem.
They all in cahoots together. FTC and all of them.

I thought about doing it but What if its an emergency..?
I’ve been using RoboKiller app and love it so far.

Today I had more than 50 calls from my number to random people because the Indian pharmacy scammers decided to revenge because I cursed them out. Help

AT & T does a good job at preventing scam or telemarketer calls and those they don't prevent they identify so you can ignore & block. No extra charge.
LOL - around here, AT&T prevents unwanted calls for free, simply by having zero bars of service.....
