Thanks! I did this yesterday. I had given up any kind of pre-mechanic diagnostic because of the incompatibility with newer scanner devices. I had no idea this was hiding in plain sight, under the hood! :)
Hey Jay Whitney thanks for watching my video. I am glad that the video helped you and apologies for the vertical view. Please share your experience, thanks again!
Hey JaySoL24 thanks for watching my video. It is always nice to hear that my information helped someone. Please consider subscribing to me it would help me a lot, thanks.
Was there a check engine or service engine warning light to indicate there was an issue needing the code? And did the dash warning light self correct or require more manual inputs?
Hey Rick Peterson thanks for watching my. If I remember correctly the check engine light was on. I decided to clear the code to see if it was a glitch in the system. Please share an update on your issue and diagnostics.

Thanks a lot for the update Rick Peterson, good to know about the AAA situation. I personally used to clear the codes after seafoaming and having the battery die as it could leave you with a lot of incorrect codes. I would clear the codes and see what would come back and use those codes as a basis. I would document the codes before and after and see what comes back.
@@WheelsTips Disconnected/Reconnected to Battery, Check light gone. Service light remained. Reset Service light by manually pushed (?) The service light can be trick to work with on Volvos, but thanks for the tip. So you just hold the 'trip reset' for 20 seconds? I am guessing with the car off and key in position 1 or 2? Please share, thank you so much.
Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. You would have to see if you have the same diagnostic port. Please share an update, thanks.
Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. What issues are you having with the car to start with? Also you may want to check all the diagnostics ports to see if another port has a stored code. Please share an update, you may also want to make sure nothing is corroded.
Hey Daniel Boone thanks for watching my video. I have included from my notes what they are in my opinion. I guess someone can obtain a old manual or google search it. Please share what is the issue you are having with your Volvo?
Hey Ckhg thanks for watching my video. Some of the other slots are used to diagnose other computers in the system, such as the airbag computer or the brake system.
Thanks a bunch for watching my video video and taking the time to ask a question. Glad I could help with your Volvo diagnostics. This year model the diagnostics is built into the car with the blink code reader, no equipment needed to do the scan. What blink code do you have?
Hey Eroberetto Westminster, thanks for watching my video. I believe the 740's have this diagnostic port. If any of this has helped you please consider subscribing to me it would help me a lot, thanks.
@@WheelsTips so this did give me codes that led to MAF sensor and idle air control valve which I found out were both working fine. The issue was the main fuel pump(external) was going out causing the air/fuel ratio to be thrown off. Once replacing fuel pump car was running great once again
Hey Timmy tijd , thanks for watching my video. It is possible you don’t have an OBD since OBD II started in 1996 , have you checked if you have the diagnostic port I showed in this video?
Hey Jasper Jokinen thanks for watching my video. It takes a physical look to know in this situation. You may want to have someone look at it. Please update the outcome of your diagnostics.
Possible there is some corrosion. Please update when you find the answer, would greatly appreciate it and it would help the video tremendously. Thanks a lot for the contribution
Thanks a bunch for watching my video and taking the time to comment. What slot A1 or A2? What year and model is your car as well, thanks for any update.
Hey Ernesto Guzman thanks for watching my video my video. Do you have the same type of diagnostics port? If so run the diagnostics and share the blink codes. I will share my experience with those blink codes.
Hey Scott Ray George in my experience with similar situations I have looked into the crankshaft position sensor. Have you tested the sensor or wiring ?
The other common areas to test on those cars are, the idle air valve, a vacuum leak and a temp sensor. Given the computer diagnostic is primitive a lot of the test are a bit more complicated. Please share what you have tested.
Truthfully it seems like you have done a lot. Do you have a repair manual for the car? At this point you may want to look if you can come across some test to check if the ignition module is bad. Please share what you find. Truthfully the ignition module is not that expensive, please remember to share your findings.

do the diagnostic units go bad. I have an engine light problem but all I can get out of the diagnostic unit is repeated 1 1 1 code for cleared system.
