    @Home Network Central
    I had a question about the last leg of the video. You mentioned disabling DHCP on either router. I have a ISP combo router-modem. Can I actually disable DHCP on the ISP one, and let the DHCP take place on the router I have connected to it in the same manner as you demonstrated here? SECONDLY! Can I disable the firewall on the ISP modem, and only leave the firewall enabled on the private router, as all household connections physical and wifi are going to that private router, not the ISP one. (I wish to use the firewall capabilities in the private router because they're way more recent and way more secure.)

    It's a good video, but this isn't a fix for Double NAT; this is a guide on how to set up a router as an access point.
    You threw that 'disable DHCP' tip in at the tail, but that's actually the most critical part; you're running bridged, letting the router handle switching & WiFi access.
    In which case, just buy a 4 port switch for like $20 if you need ethernet, or an AP if you want wireless / wireless & internet.
    Two routers in this instance makes little sense.

      is it necessary to have bridge mode with multiple devices? and do you have a good tutorial link?

    • @agukonrad
      @agukonrad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a good idea if you have an extra router lying around. I'm not a specialist on it but you should also disable NAT service on secondary router. This basically puts it to bridge mode.

    This would be the answer if your desire is to have a single LAN network. However, this is not the answer if you want a completely separate LAN network behind your LAN network with direct access to the ISP "WAN" network.

    Holy cow, this works. Thank you sooo much.
    my settup is like this;
    Modem->hardware_firewall->wifi_router
    Prior, I've only been able to use just my hardware firewall. Just found out it might be double nat issue, saw this and fixed my problem 👍

    although this is for access point mode. It works fine to prevent double NAT. I personally prefer this although we really need to disable the DHCP in the primary router to prevent ip conflicts. after that try running tracert on cmd to see.
    P.S. Some ISP router doesn't allow disabling DHCP server. In this case, you need to disable dhcp on secondary router , this prevents ip conflict and double ip address assignment

    So umm, where is the other end of the yellow cable connected to? You just said it goes from the main router Wan port to the internet? I can't find any solid object named internet here to physically connect a cable into. Blue cable goes between router and modem and white goes from modem to device needing the open nat. So where is the other end of the yellow cable?

    Unfortunately with tp-link archer ax3000 as secondary router... it was working fine as a secondary router setup like this but a month ago devices connected to it started losing internet connectivity and when I logged into the web interface it brought me to a page complaining the wan port was unplugged. In this state it would not allow any traffic to the other part of the network until I acknowledged that screen and then entered the setup and let it re-register all my settings.
    This would happen periodically in a 4-8hour period.
    I now have the wan port plugged in to appease the router and keep my devices connected on the other side of the house, which forced me to create a second subnet on my network because of this irregular behavior.
    Is it a ploy to force people to buy their access point products by disabling common function in their routers?
    Possibly.
    From now on I will make sure I buy a router that has bridge mode or is tested to allow it to be used as a secondary router...
    I mean, who wants to create two separate networks in their house where PCs can't share files or connections?

    This worked for me, but FYI, I had to set up my 2nd router in access point mode. I have my second router as a TP Link AX1800 if that helps anyone.

    If you live in an apartment complex it’s due to everyone being on the same IP so you gotta go ask to have your own IP address pretty stupid
