@@Maraksot78 Hi Sir I have an issue with the PON light which is usually stable but sometimes starts blinking for no reason resulting in connection loss. Can u please tell me what causes this and how to get rid of this problem?
@@divinestrength1774 Be sure and use your built-in analyzer or an app, as the channel mentioned. Your Wi-Fi may not be the same as someone else, especially from another area/location. NOTES: If anyone does change the channel, that means it will now be on manual. So, for a while, maybe twice a week for a month, check during peak times, or when you use the Internet the most, to see if the channel you chose is still as clear as first seen. You may find, on average, what is good for one time of the day/week is not as good as you originally thought. While doing this, you may want to take notes instead of depending on your memory. If any particular time you seem to have slow-downs you can change the channel again if necessary. The above is for anyone not wanting to mess with it a lot.
Additional NOTES: If you have both 5 and 2.4, the 2.4 signal will be stronger. So, you may want to have certain things on 2.4 or visa versa. For instance, 5 on your computer(/tablet/laptop)... and your phone, which people usually have with them or by them all the time, on 2.4. Same thing if you use Wi-Fi for your printer if it has both options. If anyone is having severe continuous problems with Wi-Fi around the house, especially if you live in a multiple-floor apartment or home, you made need a mesh setup. Obviously, that costs money, though, but sometimes is really necessary. Sometimes an extender will help. Sometimes it will not.
A very well-structured tutorial. I've been on the internet for 9 years and had no idea that changing the Wi-Fi channel would give you a more stable connection. Now web pages load almost instantly on my phone.
I can confirm moving the router's radio channel does help. I've moved my 5G and 2.4G to more open channels which really helped with the stability of the wifi. I can even play Nintendo Switch Online and sustain my Skype calls even better than before I found the technique.
In 2.4 GHz ONLY use Channel 1 or 6 or 11. That's all those are the ONLY three non-overlapping channels and if we can all use only those its much better. Have all your neighbors only use one of those three channels. Never use AUTO, it will select random channels other than 1/6/11. Please pass that on to all your friends. Also DO NOT use 40Mhz of bandwidth on 2.4Ghz. Please only use 20Mhz only. If you want higher bandwidth then use 5GHz or 6GHz bands. The higher the bandwidth setting the shorter the range and more potential for interference. 🤠👍
sorry but i don't understand all of my neighbors use channel 1 and 6 and 11 can i switch to another ? the app he showed says that 11 is bad and 6 too but 1 is average. The others are perfect. what should i do ?
@@justjotaro659 If you were to use any other channel other than 1 or 6 or 11 on 2.4GHz then you will overlap with more channels. If ch 1is "better" than the rest you can use it. For example if you use 2-5 you will get interference from 1 AND 6 and all the numbers in between. If you use 7-10 same issue will overlap with 6-11 and the others. With 1/6/11 scheme if you picture the channels and how the overlap with each other, lets say you and your two neighbors are the only people with WiFI in your neighborhood. Each of you would select one of the pool 1/6/11 only. Each channel looks like a bell curve, in that the base of each bell doesn't touch the base of another bell. So with the three channels 1/6/11 active only each person can use their WiFi without any interference from the other. It would look like three bell curves lined up together without any of them overlapping with each other. Any other channel used WILL overlap with the other channels. So if you had the same three people again, but instead used 1/2/3 for channels, then each of those bell curves would almost be on top of each other and offset slightly, so everyone is interfering with each other. As an example I have 8 access points to cover my large home. I have to reuse the channels over and over because remember I will only use 1/6/11, so three of the access points are using 1 and three are using 6 and two are using 11. I don't reuse the same channel on the adjacent access point, they alternate so no two are the same. This helps minimize interference. You can use any channel you want, but what will happen is that the interference between yours and the next guys will impact speed. BTW the 20Mhz channel bandwidth is how 1/6/11 won't interfere with each other, if you were to pick 40Mhz you will interfere with many channels now, that is why you should never use 40Mhz on 2.4Ghz band. The 5GHz band is the one to use wider/larger bandwidth on. You can do 40Mhz or 80Mhz pretty easy, and even 160Mhz, however keep in mind that while its "faster" the more bandwidth you use, the more for potential interference and also shorter distances. People can do a speed test on WiFi to get relative speed at the location their device is in relation to the access point only. This way you can test sitting on the couch for example and see what speed you can get. Then maybe you can test at your desk in kitchen and see if its better or worse. However WiFi in most cases won't be able to give reliable readings on what your actual ISP speed is. For that you need a wired connection to eliminate the RF portion of the test. So many people purchase a 1Gbps pipe from their ISP and then complain when they can only get 200Mbps on it, using a WiFi device. If you were to plug in directly you would get the actual speed of the ISP link. Hope this helps. 🤠👍 Sorry for the long winded answer and slightly off track.
This is very helpful don't get me wrong. But the thing is that most newer routers don't use a static channel. Most routers now have a default setting that allows the router to swich to a better channel when the current one is being congested. Doing this could cause drops. But. At the same time if you wanted a static Channel youd get less drops but the overall speed may or may not change depending on how many other networks are switching to and from your channel. The best way to do this is to have each person in tour area running on a separate channel. Depending on everyone router is what channels it can be on, but ideally you can get your neighbors to evenly spread out to what channels they can use. But let's be real. Most people don't know how, or don't care. And they aren't going to let you in their internet. So it's not all that realistic.

Nice video, but the problem is that other routers repeatedly scan and change their channel to the best available channel too, so selecting a specific channel doesn't always work well nowadays.
People mostly leave the selection as AUTO, so channel changes all the time. A good one now, may not be a good one in 10 mins. If your in a congested area, lowering bandwidth will help.
This video helped me a lot one my internet went so slow a video needs 5 minutes to load and then found this video and I changed my routers channel and instantly my net became so good I couldn’t believe you got a sub
It does. My older router seemed to only automatically select when it started up, but the newer ones seem to check regularly and then change as required. And because channel congestion changes all the time that makes Auto the best option.
Thanks very much. Clear and precise. The issue I'm having is slow WiFi when I have my Bluetooth earphone connected on my device. Should a channel change improve my connection?
man honestly this really worked for me changing channels out of 11. Although there are no neighbours using wifi nearby, my area small internet setup is like houses get a wired connection from 1 centre like 500 metre radius, all of that goes through 1 main line to the isp so this router channel contention is real even for wired. The difference suddenly my speed dropped to 4 mbps now its shows good 50 mbps. Thanks man what are your thoughts on channel contention on wired star topology network ?
I have a Asus router now and it has the same gui router page yours does. I was using a Dlink dual band I've had for probably 6 years but some new neighbors moved in next door and suddenly my wifi was dropping out. I used one of the wifi analyzers like you showed and everytime I picked a clear channel the routers next door would jump on it too and I'm down again. I decided to buy a newer router and got a Asus similar to yours. It seems to automatically pick up the best channels and I haven't been knocked offline since but I did have some problems when I tried to set it up to use the same ip range the DLink did and everything was offline till I fully reset it. Been working good since then except getting all my gear to reset to the new addresses it uses. Got most of them up now so I'll figure out the last wifi camera later as it isn't super critical. Good information just the same as most folks would never go deeper than plugging everything in and turning it on figuring everything should just work.
Congratulations on achieving the highest level in the difficult to achieve range of the globally recognised standard of that rarely given all round status of "Dude".👍
Trying the Wi-Fi analyzer, we're getting -60 or slightly more from the 2G extender at 2.4, about -77 from the 5GHz. Sometimes a guest network from somebody else interferes with ours. It keeps fluctuating. Sometimes the network doesn't show up on the analyzer.
In addition, my router (a Pace/ARRIS given to us by AT&T) won't let me manually set the channel, just rescan it. (11 (20 MHz) for 2.4 GHz, 132 for 5 GHz).
Great and simple to follow info. While I’ve used Wifi Analyzer on a Windows laptop for years, I’ve never been able to find it for iOS or iPadOS. Is it available for this platform or is there a just as graphical equivalent?
As far as I know there is no longer an app for iOS that will scan for and show this information like the WiFi Analyzer app I used on Android in this video. Apple has their way of doing things and for whatever reason it seems they don't allow apps like this on the app store anymore. So if you don't have an Android device and want to find this information you'll have to resort to using one on a Windows PC or laptop as it seems you are already familiar with.
What about selecting auto? Do most routers do a good job of switching to a different channel when the current channel becomes congested if you have it in auto?
Great video and explanation. I’m not seeing a graphing app in the iOS App Store. Got any advice? One commenter stated that Apple doesn’t allow such apps. Seriously, Apple?!? Help?

Thank you. I changed the channels but when I’m on my iPhone and I go to any website it takes like 20-25 seconds to load the website. I have optimum wifi 200 mbps. It does the same thing when I’m on my 5G connection.
jeez finally i find out whats going on. thanks. my sweet spot was channel 8 and 1. i stuck with 8. i went from 6mbps download to 40+. 40+ is what i pay for.
What I learned was your router connects to a Ip address, when you reset your router then chooses another IP address and normally solves the problem. It worked in London with sky broadband using a extended router. Hope this is understandable
Or just set the router to use the Auto mode and it’ll handle everything on its own. Depending on the router, setting it to Auto also will allow the router to use DFS channels on the 5GHz band.
@@denniskarlsson6173 They never stay clear though. You can either check it constantly yourself or leave it to your router to automatically change when it detects congestion.
Most WiFi equipment vendors respect this unofficial WiFi rule of using 1,6,11 on auto, but it's no guarantee. It's up to the vendor of the product to program their equipment. The key here is realising that a 2.4GHz wifi signal is usually 20MHz wide. And between each channel number is 5MHz. so the channel "bleeds" signal out 10 to each side. Channel 1, bleeding into 2, and 3. Channel 6, bleeding into 4,5,7 and 8 etc. Like stacking FM radio signals so close together you can hear both at the same time mixing into each other. It's actually better for WiFi to be on the same channel if it can't have its own, as both parties can decode the radio signals, and take turns transmitting when there is no traffic, even though they have to wait for each other at least communication gets through that way.
My understanding is that on 2.4Ghz, you should use only channels 1, 6 or 11 and not the ones between those. Overlapping on those three is better than on ones between. I read that people on the ones between 1, 6 & 11 aren't doing everyone else any favours.
I can't even switch channels because I've got three separate neighbors using the same channel I'm on and there's too much overlap to switch to a less congested one anyway because everyone is using 1-9 and I'm on 11
If it's really bad, I would consider disabling the 2.4GHz radio altogether, and only using 5GHz band. Here, you have more space/channels and less interference in general. Look at how congested 36, 40, 44, 48, or 149,153,157,161 are. Selecting a channel width of 20Mhz on 5GHz band will only take up the channel you selected, but if you go with 40MHz you will take up for example both 36 and 40. And doing 80MHz takes up 36,40,44,and 48. So find what's free, and go with that.
I was so excited to try this out and realized that Shaw changed all of my router settings to be "automatically set by AI" it's making my internet so much worse 😭😭😭 all my neighbors are on the same channel as mine (channel 11)

@@shailenima is it available on iOS?
@@sebiz3958 I don't know....... You may google about it !!!!!
Not available on iPhone
This video helped me a lot one my internet went so slow a video needs 5 minutes to load and then found this video and I changed my routers channel and instantly my net became so good I couldn’t believe you got a sub
That was low key a very helpful and interesting video, thanks, I thought it would be something cheesy but it is actually great
Great video!! What is the purpose of the Auto setting? I thought that would automatically choose the least used channel.
It does. My older router seemed to only automatically select when it started up, but the newer ones seem to check regularly and then change as required. And because channel congestion changes all the time that makes Auto the best option.
@@loganmedia1142 Thanks!!
If your wondering for a alternative for iOS AirPort utility works too, you will just have to enable WiFi scanner in settings.
Thx
thank you!
Top advice. I couldn't figure out why my high ping.
I doubled my speed. And, the biggest shocker was my microwave oven no longer blocks the wi-fi signal when running. Thank you!
Thanks Chris for the story and the guy that told his story.
You are awesome man! I'm new to all of this computer stuff but you explained this very well.
This works, you can see the entire video and get something useful
I need goo d internet to post and play... this is the most helpful video I've seen in a long time, thanks
Congratulations on achieving the highest level in the difficult to achieve range of the globally recognised standard of that rarely given all round status of "Dude".👍
It's actually hard to find an app now that will analyze wifi channels, there's a lot of bs ones and 99% don't even have that feature
This is so helpful. Thank you! I'm also using a TP-link Deco M4 router mesh, can I also change the channel on that device?
Excellent video, I new to this any change I could find out the name of the app u used in the video?
Using 2 Huawei routers with my local ISP's here in 🇹🇹 West Indies. Will try your shortcut...👌👌👌👌👌
Which analyzer do you use?
OH MY GOD YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER ALL OF MY ACCOUNTS WON'T SIGN IN FROM USING WIFI EXCEPT IF DONE ON CELLULAR DATA. THANK YOU SO MUCH 🤩
What about selecting auto? Do most routers do a good job of switching to a different channel when the current channel becomes congested if you have it in auto?
Thanks! You made this clearer to me. I already had the WiFi Analyzer but it really didn't explain what or how to change settings clearly!
Great video and explanation. I’m not seeing a graphing app in the iOS App Store. Got any advice? One commenter stated that Apple doesn’t allow such apps. Seriously, Apple?!? Help?
Same here, we need help! Another app that will help us select the correct channel!
The video didn't address my particular problem but what a great video. I'd like it twice if I could.
It seems worked for me I was about to throw my modem thinking issue with router and wifi equipment . Thanks
I couldn't find the same Wifi Analyzer as you used in the video, are there any on the App Store that you recommend using?
For a quick fix on your Mac computer hold down option key and click the wifi symbol in the upper right hand corner
Click something like Open Wireless Diagnostics
Leave that alone
Click Window on top
Click Scan
Try the suggestions on the left hand side
DUDE I LOVE YOU THIS LITERALLY WORKS PERFECTLY
Video starts at 4:35
It helped a lot thanks for your video, my wifi is a lot more stable than before
after watching your video yesterday i changed the channel by using that app, it increased the wifi speed to over 130mh, but this morning its around 40-60, then again changed the channel on my modem, and it increased the speed of both wifi, hotspot, and ethernet. i think it need changing every day atleast. any chance i can change channel for hotspot- its interfering with next door according to the app you recomended. thanks a lot. your advice definately helped me. i am kind of computer expert. :)
TOP MARKS MATE. GREAT INFORMATION 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙂🙂🙂👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I came here to know how to switch from 5g to 2.4 so I can connect these stupid Monster led bars. But ended up learning so much more thanks for the video
Some devices will NOT be compatible with 5Ghz, so you will want to leave 2.4 enabled.
thanks finally something that’s easy and works from this century
Glad to hear the video helped. :)
Great video ! Very easy to understand. I'm wondering if putting a small fan on the back of my t.v. to cool down the Chromecast..? No router, live rural, use data to screen share on msdisplay adapter, but it constantly kicks me off.🤔🤔😣
as someone in tech support, we do that to customers which I find kinda cool
Very helpful information, thank you 2 years later!
Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to do these. I'm going crazy when I lose my wifi in a middle of a game & class.
Channel 13 it is...
Thanks, really helpful!
Sincerely to the presenter but I did not see any changes in my home, there were about 10 wifi around my home and so I did not notice that my signal was compromised by any other device but it was worth trying the application.
Thanks alot for the information buddy, just realized my WiFi setup is in a crazy mess. Gonna start sorting it out. Thanks 👍
I'm going to save this in my playlist and watch it again when I have wifi at home
Dude thanks so much I moved my hole wifi box and shit and now your video is running much smoother
Ngl this really boosted our wifi speed a bit, one question tho what does it mean if your wifi channel is in 13 or any number is it essential?
Will be testing this as I have had a sucky WiFi for years
I luv your sense of humour, too, enjoyed this video , tx alot
there aren't any apps on ios that have the graphs what should i use instead
Thanks so much for the info I had no idea on how to test/tweak this. Have an awesome week!
Happy to share it with you. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great weekend too. :)
Nice vid. Pls mention channels
1, 6, 11 Do Not Overlap so use one of those three if possible.
Sending you many thanks. I don't know if this will fix my issue but you made it easy to follow you and I love your presentation!!!!!!
I do not have that analyzer that you show to use...What others good ones apps are there??
Great video but I can't find that App you were using on my iphone. Is it still available? Wifi Analyzer?
Unfortunately there is no longer an app for iOS that will scan for Wifi networks and show information like this. For whatever reason Apple doesn't want people to be able to use apps like that. They're currently only available for Android devices. However, other people have asked this same question so I did a search for WiFi analyzer apps for PC and found this article. Perhaps there's one here that may help you out. www.netspotapp.com/wifi-scanner/best-wifi-scanner-apps-windows.html
I think the one on the list called inSSIDer looks pretty good. Haven't tried it personally but it looks like it'll do what you need for this.
Thank you. I changed the channels but when I’m on my iPhone and I go to any website it takes like 20-25 seconds to load the website. I have optimum wifi 200 mbps. It does the same thing when I’m on my 5G connection.
Best app for iOS/iPhone to scan those wifi channels and how they are used?
Great video, very well explained! Awesome work and I will be back for more!
jeez finally i find out whats going on. thanks. my sweet spot was channel 8 and 1. i stuck with 8. i went from 6mbps download to 40+. 40+ is what i pay for.
What I learned was your router connects to a Ip address, when you reset your router then chooses another IP address and normally solves the problem. It worked in London with sky broadband using a extended router. Hope this is understandable
thankyou so much.. thats why my wifi is restarting always when i download big files... thankyou.
Can you please advise on best free app in Apple store to use? Thanks
Definitely worked for me, cheers man !
What analyzer were you using?
What type? of wifi analyzer that you're using Or what is that app called
Or just set the router to use the Auto mode and it’ll handle everything on its own. Depending on the router, setting it to Auto also will allow the router to use DFS channels on the 5GHz band.
Switching it to auto is worse than having a non congested permanent channel
@@denniskarlsson6173 They never stay clear though. You can either check it constantly yourself or leave it to your router to automatically change when it detects congestion.
This is also the better option because in my experience a particular channel does not remain clear.
@@loganmedia1142 but if I leave to the router its gonna pick anything between 1 6 or 11 say channel 8 thats gonna introduce more interference right?
Wow, i watched a video before this and this one explains everything so much better and easier. Creds to Maraksot!
Thank you. Glad to hear you found the video helpful. 🙂
0:36 Me seeing those stats and being Australian "hey that's good though"
Great analogy!!! Love the tuning radios
Thanks dude it solved my problem ... U taught so well
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!
works like a charm, also i think the main reason my internet is slow is because its wireless and uses signal instead of wired to get internet
Many modern routers automatically do that, so changing that setting may trigger other routers to change the channel as well
Thank you for explaining this information in such a simle way
Gonna try this when I get home
