Though I agree with the “ear fatigue” point, I think you have to try to rise above that when making a serious list. Led Zeppelin IV’s impact is undeniable.
I understand one may have ear fatigue with Led Zeppelin IV, but I think it's not very objective or serious to put that as your dead last album solely because of ear fatigue. I would have liked legitimate, well-thought out reasons for the controversial pick. Being a contrarian for contrarian's sake doesn't make your opinion interesting or more understandable... but hey, we like what we like. It is what it is. If LZ4 is your dead last, that's fine.
My ranking hasn't changed in over 30 years... 9. Coda 8. In Through The Outdoor 7. Presence 6. III 5. Houses Of The Holy 4. Debut 3. II 2. IIII 1. Physical Graffiti 👍
My rankings of my favorite band:- 9. Coda 8. In through the Out Door 7. Presence (Achilles Last Stand is one of my favorites) From here on I say all of these albums are all time greats, Led Zeppelin had the greatest album run ever. 6. Led Zeppelin 3 - Still adore Immigrant Song, love Gallows Pole, Celebration Day, Out on The Tiles and Tangerine. 5. Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused is in my top ten, adore Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Communication Breakdown, Your Time is Gonna Come. How Many More Times is amazing but makes me really uneasy, enjoy Black Mountain Side and You Shook Me 4. Led Zeppelin 2 - Heavy Rock Classic with arguably Page's greatest riffs, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Thank You, Whole Lotta Love are my favorites here, really love What is And What Should Never Be, Moby Dick(intro/outro version) and Bring it On Home. 3. Houses of the Holy - Brightest and most experimental Zeppelin album but brilliant at the same time. Adore No Quarter, Song Remains the Same and The Rain Song, love The Ocean and Over the Hills and Far Away 2. Led Zeppelin 4 - The iconic album, Stairway to Heaven and When the Levee Breaks are my top 5 favorite songs, adore Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop and Battle of Evermore. I enjoy Rock and Roll, Going to California, Four Sticks but not as much as others. 1. Physical Graffiti- My favorite album of all time with my favorite song of all time, the legendary Kashmir. It is incredible that it has 13 out of 15 songs that would be greatest hits for any other band and I think 10 of them are overlooked gems. The Rover, In My Time of Dying and In The Light are in my top ten favorite Zeppelin songs. Love Sick Again, Night Flight, The Wanton Song, Custard Pie, Ten Years Gone, Down By The Seaside, Houses of the Holy, Trampled Under Foot. Bonham's, Page's and Jones's best works are in here, this album, this band is just unparalleled in musicianship, tightness, power and song catalog.
I cant argue with anyone's choices because Zeppelin was the ultimate album band. They NEVER did a bad album. Page is a wizard and each player a virtuoso.
The remastered deluxe version of Coda has several other unreleased studio songs that weren't released in 1982, such as Baby Come On Home (outtake from Zeppelin I), Sugar Mama (also from Zeppelin I), Travelling Riverside Blues (from a BBC Session from 1969), Hey, Hey, What Can I Do (B-Side of the Immigrant Song), The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair (from a BBC Session from 1969) ), Somethin' Else (from a BBC Session from 1969), and St. Tristan's Sword (Outtake from Zeppelin III).
Megadeth does a cool cover of "Out On The Tiles" on their United Abominations album, the Japanese Import version.Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine also mentioned Tiles as one of his favs by Zep.
I’m only 28 and used to listen to hip hop growing up. I discovered Led Zeppelin in 2011 and I’m addicted - like...literally addicted to their music. It’s special to me in a way, that I’ll never be able to put it into words. My favourite album, along with my favourite song is 6 - Kashmir 4 - when the levee - tied with Stairway (especially the sunset edition) 2 - ramble on 5 - the rain song 3 - SIBLY 1 - D&C 7 - Achilles (obviously) 8 - ITTOD - I’m gonna crawl 9 - CODA - we’re gonna groove That being said I live for the live material. I wish they professionally recorded every show especially from 69-72
I used to know of a guy in London who had every Zeppelin concert ever played, bar around 3/4 gigs,on tape! (And they were for sale!) Sorry I dont have his address now (it was a long time ago!) The recordings do exist, and, if you look on YT,you can possibly find... Good luck!
the way the high school kids got into zep was IV, HotH, II, I, Physical Graffiti, In through the out door, coda and Presence. that was the way handed down in high school. borrowed a few of these from good friends and had iii on vinyl. last one was Hey Hey what can i do which was hard to find on singles in the mid 80s and i gorthe 45 from a record store in Berkeley. had the songbook which goes up to HotH.
Coda is the album the Martin plays the most? I rest my case. When the show first started I was excited to see a Led Zeppelin book that I don’t own, and I was in a rush to go check it out, but then a few picks and I see where Martin‘s head is at, and I wonder if he could even write about Zeppelin in a helpful way. Cut the video short, better things to do.
(1.) One, (2.) Physical Graffiti, (3.) Four, (4.) Three, (5.) Houses, (6.) Two, (7.) Out Door, (8.) Presence, (9) Coda. I think that Four Sticks is the best thing on Four. Nice to hear your opinions. Cheers.
Zepp fan here, based on Originality, Sound and Consistency. 1. Led Zeppelin III 2. ITTOD (i own 26 copies of it) 3. Houses of the Holy 4. Led Zeppelin IV 5. Led Zeppelin II 6. Led Zeppelin 7. Physical Graffiti (hate Night Flight) 8. Presence (Candy Store Ughhh...) 9. CODA (not a studio album really, more a contractual obligation, Bonzo's Montreux is my second favorite song Ever BTW)
1) Led Zeppelin III - Always my favorite 2) Physical Graffiti - Best double album ever 3) Led Zeppelin IV - You can't deny it's greatness 4) In Through The Out Door - For Carouselambra alone 5) Presence - Underrated and great 6) Led Zeppelin II - Still love it after all these years 7) Led Zeppelin I - Groundbreaking and raw 8) Houses of the Holy - Least favorite, but No Quarter is epic
Okay, you guys finally got me to work out a ranking: 9. Coda 8. In Through the Out Door 7. Presence 6. II 5. I 4. III 3. Houses of the Holy 2. Physical Graffiti 1. IV
It’s great how 3 people can all choose such different lists. That’s only a credit to the catalog. My faves are III, Houses & PG. No Quarter is probably my top song.
1 led zeppelin 3 2 physical graffiti 3 led zep 2 4 led zep 4 5 led zep 1 6 houses of holy 7 presence 8 in through the out door 9 coda. Love 3 best cause i like the folky stuff.
Zeppelin, easily among the most influential. The challenge with attributing anything specific, a specific genre, to Zeppelin is that they were so much more diverse than other bands. Martin mentions this in his comments. As far as ranking the albums, for me it's: Houses, IV, PG, III, II, I, Presence, Coda, ITTOD
My two favorite things: oxygen and Led Zeppelin......and NOT in that order! Physical Graffiti is the greatest hard rock album in multiverse and as far as ranking Zep's albums-like picking your favorite child....can't be done. Great stuff-thanks Guitar Hack, Pete, and Martin!
Great show guys. Just a wonderful band. 1. Physical Graffiti 2. IV 3. Houses Of The Holy 4. III 5. In Through The Out Door 6. Presence 7. II 8. I 9. Coda
cool vid, I had a bit of time watching this and I calculated mean rating (by giving points from 1 to 9 depending how high on each list each album was) and it turned out that: 1. physical graffiti has won hands down (1 position, 8,33 mean rating) 2. houses of the holy (6 rating) 3-4. IV and III ex-equo (5,3 rating) 5. through the out door (5 rating) 6. I (4,6) 7. presence (4,3) 8. II (3,6) 9. coda (2,3) biggest surprise - low esteem of I and II (mainly beacause of Martins quite a unsuspected placing them on the bottom)
My ranking 9. Coda (1982) 8. Led Zeppelin III (1970) 7. In Through The Outdoor (1979) 6. Presence (1976) 5. Houses Of The Holy (1973) 4. Led Zeppelin I (1969) 3. Physical Grafitti (1975) 2. Led Zeppelin II (1969) 1. Led Zeppelin IV (1971)
Pete is hardly keeping a straight face while two other guys make fun of LZ classic albums and it's so funny. A day later Martin picks the first Tubes album as his favourite. I guess that one doesn't sound dated.
Yeah, I love Martin but he certainly has some questionable tastes in music. Zep is just untouchable in their day and you really can't compare them to anyone. When he mentions a BOC album as being better or sounding better its just madness. How can you not love Jimmy's production? He's actually the best. All those records sound fresh today. Even Zep I and II.
Thank you Pete. I agree 100 percent Black Dog Is my favorite Zeppelin song ever. It's been my ring tone for years. Talk about getting your attention when Plant starts wailing " HEY HEY MOMMA" no doubt to you and everyone else in the room your getting a call.
Fantastic show as always, thank you to Hack, Pete and Martin for their Zeppelin input I really enjoyed this show and forgive me as I am way behind I still need to watch the Sabbath show!! Here are my Led Zeppelin albums Ranked :) 1. Houses Of The Holy 2. Physical Graffiti 3. Presence 4. Led Zeppelin III 5. Led Zeppelin 6. Led Zeppelin IV 7. Led Zeppelin II 8. In Through The Out Door 9. Coda Houses of the Holy has been my number 1 for years now a solid mainstay...when I was a younger fan the debut, II and IV would of ranked probably top 3 but as I have grown to appreciate their more experimental albums the other four have risen way above them :) Thanks again Hack see you soon!! Nick
Any show with Pete and Martin as guests are worth the price of admission!! 1. Physical Graffiti 2. 4 3. 3 4. Presence 5. 1 6. 2 7. Houses of the Holy 8. Coda 9. ITTOD
Really enjoyed that Guitar Hack. I like the unassuming and modest way you host the show too. I'll have to check out more of your videos. There's plenty to discuss here but I'll just throw in a couple of comments, hopefully maintaining the positive and constructive spirit of the show. Firstly, I'm conscious that we're discussing Zeppelin here; who were arguably to '70s rock what the Beatles were to popular music in the '60s. In short, what the hell do I know ! That said: I would ask if being tired and jaded of hearing certain songs/albums should be a criteria ? For example, we wouldn't say that of any Beatles record or Dark Side of the Moon. Would the familiarity of Abbey Road or DSOTM affect their ranking ? I absolutely get what the guys are saying but I don't think we can factor it in. The point was well made about the sonic qualities of Zeppelin's albums - tremendous depth and dynamics. I have a real fondness for Houses of the Holy; but the second album was one of the very first rock records I ever heard and to me it's still the most complete and accomplished example in the rock genre. With the band's debut it's the best one-two in rock history, and Plant's vocals on these albums were stunning. Thanks to everyone for a great show.
The only LZ songs that i skip when i put on their music are Hot Dog and Bonzo's Montreux. Everything else is pretty golden. When i rank their albums, it really comes down to what moods i prefer and the cohesion of the songs. With that said: 1: Houses of the Holy (my hot take is that this is extremely cohesive, despite its experimentation) 2: IV (their most cohesive record i think, but it is true that most of the record is overplayed. I generally prefer the more experimental or heavy stuff, but the influence this has is massive.) 3: III (the only song here that i dont absolutely love is Hats Off. It could work on the album, but not as the final track it is. This is my favorite record for Plant. He still has plenty of power, range, and aggression on this one, while incorporating some beautiful performances) 4: Physical Graffiti (their most diverse work, but id argue its as incohesive as Coda. The fact that Plants vocals span from his 1971 peak to his absolute worst in 1975 doesnt help. I love the work on this, but Plant should have taken a break.) 5: In Through the Out Door (not their most monumental achievement, but (sans Hot Dog), theres not a bad track) 6: II (a great album, but i dont come back to this much.) 7: I (Same reasons as II, but Led Zeppelin is less realized at this point than they are when they recorded II) 8: Presence (I love Achilles, and i like the rest. The styles here are fun, but not quite my cup of tea) 9: Coda (its enjoyable)
Definitely feeling ya with the ear fatigue issue, including Rock n Roll. EXCEPT... That only applies to the songs played by themselves. For whatever reason, within the context of listening to an entire album, all that goes away for me and I love listening to every song
(1) Physical Graffiti (2) Led Zeppelin IV (3) Led Zeppelin II (4) Led Zeppelin I (5) Led Zeppelin III (6) Houses Of The Holy (7) Presence (8) In Through The Out Door (9) CODA
I really don't get how Martin doesn't like the riff to Moby Dick and that Heartbreaker is "Ok". Those riffs are part of what made Zeppelin, Zeppelin. And this album is full of killer riffs. Agree with the sound production of Presence
Couldn't agree more, Heartbreaker is a top 5 greatest riff and and an iconic solo. I have probably spent an entire week just humming that riff over and over. Led Zeppelin 2 has arguably Page's greatest and most badass riffs and Bonham is on fire throughout, along with gorgeous mellowness too with Ramble One, Thank You and What is and What Should Never Be, it's a classic album.
We all have different opinions about their best albums but you 3 truly love the band like I do, and that’s all that matters. I just ordered Martin’s Zep book, and thanks for doing this video, it’s great and I love the analysis of the best band ever, LED ZEPPELIN
Thanks for doing this ranking. You picked some good guests to have on the show. It's hard to rank them so I usually do a tier list. S Tier: Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV, Physical Graffiti A Tier: Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin III, Houses of the Holy B Tier: In Through the Out Door C Tier: Presence Led Zeppelin II will always be my favorite, In Through the Out Door will usually be at the 7 spot, and Presence is last for me (I don't count Coda). But spots 2-6 are pretty much interchangeable, it depends on my mood.
9. Coda. 8. In Through the Outdoor 7. Led Zeppelin I 6. Houses of the Holy 5. Led Zeppelin III, 4. Led Zeppelin II, 3. Presence 2. Physical Grafitti, 1. Led Zeppelin IV
Cool show guys! My ranking is pretty close to Pete's, I would only switch "In through the Outdoor" with "Presence". I always saw it as a more creative record.
I can't speak for Canada, but most of my upbringing (plus all of my teens, 20s, early 30s) was in the US (New York City), and those who are not from there, or haven't spent a significant amount of time there, will never fully understand the massive oversaturation of songs on the radio (and other mediums), and how it affects listeners. It is very real. Sure, there are some exceptions (as always), and it varies from person to person, but there are many songs (even albums, to an extent) that I can't enjoy quite like I used to because I've heard them way too many times. There are dozens and dozens of stations (Pete will know exactly what I'm talking about.) With all those options, there is that much more redundancy. You run from one station to the next, only to hear the same song(s) you left the first station for in the first place. Think about that, and multiply it by something like 100. It goes on and on... to the point where you become thoroughly disgusted with the radio. I'll occasionally pop on the radio (mostly for classical music, but sometimes for pop tunes), but the little bit of radio I listen to is mostly online (I'll sometimes check in on the NYC independent stations), and granted, even where I am now (which I won't divulge, atm), there's still repetition when it comes to the radio. I haven't lived everywhere to validate my opinion, but I think US radio is a different beast than radio anywhere else.
Yup. Agreed. Funny, I was hanging out with a member of the Cult and Joker by Steve Miller came on. He asked me who it was. I thought he was joking. But he had never heard it and thought it was a current hit.
Just a fun fact, In Through The Out Door was recorded November - December 1978 at Polar Studios in Sweden. Which were owned by ABBA. ABBA and Zeppelin were both signed to Atlantic records at the time. They were offered the studio by ABBA. And they recorded it Sweden as a tax break.
@@GuitarHack66 You're welcome. I enjoyed it very much. It made me listen to Led zeppelin III this morning. I also like the reissue of Led Zeppelin I, because the bonus disc is a concert from 1969. Being from Edmonton, I smiled when I saw you drink from a Tim Hortons cup.
I don't know what Martin guy was talking about and being over played doesn't take away the quality of them song. Agree with Pete most. Everyone has favourites sure and mine would be III, houses and PG.
Wow I totally disagree with Martin about Led Zeppelin's production. I think because their production was so great on their albums is one of the reasons they escalated themselves into Beatles territory with their catalog. For the most part production on hard rock albums is the one element usually lacking, it seems record companies didn't care about how hard rock bands albums sounded
I totally agree with you. Zeppelin were light years ahead of their peers sound wise. Especially in terms of drums absolutely groundbreaking. I generally like Martin's takes but he's way off the mark here. Theres no layering on Zep albums? Uhh ok there are literal armies of layered guitars on some of those tracks.
@@PetesCDVinylWorld i’m just guessing🤔it’s just i’m picking he must be hearing things at a better quality to the rest of us right😵💫i mean i’ve got presence, rocks ,wish you were here and the kiss and deep purple collections and many others from that era and couldn’t tell production differences like he’s talking about😩
I wouldn't consider myself a big Zeppelin fan but I can Admit that not only is Physical Graffiti one of the best rock albums ever made but its one of the best albums ever made.
Here's my list: 9. Coda 8. In Through the Out Door 7. Presence 6. Led Zeppelin I 5. Led Zeppelin II 4. Houses of the Holy 3. Led Zeppelin IV 2. Led Zeppelin III 1. Physical Graffitti
Albums (best to worst): Release date: Star ratings (0-5): 1. Led Zeppelin (12 January 1969) 5 2. ll (22 October 1969) 4.5 3. Presence (31 March 1976) 3.5 4. lV (8 November 1971) 4 5. Physical Graffiti (24 February 1975) 3.5 6. Houses Of The Holy (28 March 1973) 3 7. lll (5 October 1970) 2.5 8. Coda (19 November 1982) 1.5 9. In Through The Out Door (22 August 1979) 1.5
Aircraft carrier with planes taking off - what a great description. My favourite LZ album with every song outstanding. LZ 3 and Houses of the Holy gets better each year. Cracking discussion. Not LZ but Page and Plant - Clarksdale - another a Blum that gets better as the years pass.
I like your list a bit better then some of the guys in the episode, cant believe how low 1 and 2 ranked on some of their lists! I hate the argument "It's played too much on the radio" or "i've listened to it to death" . But Ya Martin even says PG is the greatest album ever made.
9. Coda 8. In Through The Outdoor 7. Presence 6. Houses Of The Holy 5. Led Zeppelin 4. Led Zeppelin III 3. Led Zeppelin II 2. Led Zeppelin IV 1. Physical Graffiti
As a teenager, "In Through the Out Door" held very little appeal for me. It doesn't rock that hard, and as a teenager, hard rock (and metal) was most of what I wanted to hear from Zeppelin, or from any other band. Now, in my late 40s, I absolutely love ITTOD. It's one of my favorite Zeppelin albums. This is my list, which probably has something to annoy and anger almost everyone, hehe: 1. IV (Zoso) 2. Houses of the Holy 3. Led Zeppelin II 4. Physical Graffiti 5. In Through the Out Door 6. Led Zeppelin III 7. Led Zeppelin (first album) 8. Presence 9. Coda
Agreed. ITTOD was my first Zep album I heard. And it was from a punk rocker. Lol. I love the deluxe version of Coda. If you haven't heard it yet try it out. That version nudges Presence down a notch.
@@captainkirk70 Despite its last-place ranking in my list, I do like "Coda." I have to admit that it doesn't really feel like a proper Zeppelin album to me, in that it consists of odds and ends from the band, rather than being a cohesive album of songs that were originally intended to be released, but I do still like it. It's quite fascinating to me that "Wearing and Tearing" and "Darlene" were both recorded during the "In Through The Out Door" sessions, and yet, They were not included on that album. I've read that before John Bonham's tragic death, Jimmy Page had been intending for the next Zep album (after ITTOD, that is) to be a much more hard rocking, guitar-oriented album. I seriously wonder whether "Wearing and Tearing" and "Darlene" would have been included on that next album, because both songs really do rock, especially "Wearing and Tearing," which is almost a Zeppelin take on punk rock?
@@christianman73 Agreed. I do like those songs. I'm not sure they are really up to the greatness that Zep were known for. But they did put The Crunge on HOTH. Which to me is absurd. A dud that surely didn't need to be there. I'd have preferred a cover or something. D'yer Maker isn't great either. Especially in the context of the rest of the songs. I only love 3 songs on Presence. So that will have to move to last place for me. ITTOD was a step up from that. So it seems Jimmy was already in a decline that he never recovered from. I would liked to have seen what happened if Bonzo hadn't died but I have a feeling they'd have broken up in a few years anyway. Jimmy was just too far gone. And Plant has made clear he prefers to be a solo artist. Even though all of his work pales to even Zep duds. Coda moves to 2nd from last purely on the strength of it's deluxe version. The high points on it aren't as high as the 3 on Presence.
But Coda really doesn't belong on this list. Its a collection put together after a band has broken up. Never intended or released as an actual studio album. There are plenty of bands that have released collections of "B-Sides" etc that would not have been counted in a different band ranking.
I feel your pain Martin. I’ve noticed some Genesis and Styx fans become disrespectful if you don’t share the same opinion they do regarding certain albums/songs.
I'd be REALLY interested in hearing Martin's opinions on Page's newer remasters especially the vinyls, since he isn't a fan of most of the original productions.
My top two albums, ironically enough, are albums I didn't think too highly of for years: Physical Graffiti would be at the top, with III as close second (these two are almost interchangeable.) Houses of the Holy would be next, then I'd go with IV. Coda would be in last place, and the other three would slide into the other three slots; put them in almost any order, depending on my mood. Hack did something for the very first time since I joined this channel: he made me laugh my ASS off!!! As soon as he mentioned his #9 pick, I screamed with laughter. It got on some nerves (though it really shouldn't have, if you ask me), but I just sat back laughing so hard. Despite being a good album, IV was never my personal favorite, even without the oversaturation. Popoff's theory about drama spilling over to the fans was interesting. Loads of drama was found in Pink Floyd (I'm a fan), and you should see some of the utter ridiculousness spewed from many of their fans, especially when someone disagrees with an album preference. KISS, same thing. Might have something to do with wanting to align with certain camps within specific bands, particularly when there are members at odds with each other, but that's only one facet of it. Either way, this stupidity amongst fans is everywhere...not just for bands with serious drama or infighting, if truth be told.
The brown bag on In Through The Out Door came from a quote from Joe Strummer. He called them dinosaurs and said that the only reason anyone bought their records was because of the gimmicky album covers. JP responded saying "We could release an album wrapped in a brown paper bag and still sell a million copies.
My top 3 are interchangeable but that's the fun part of doing these shows. All their albums are great but only one can be no. 1. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers
Can you do a Deep Purple album ranking with Pete and Martin, there were about 7 mark eras, so there is a lot and different stuff to choose from. Really enjoyed the show by the way. 👍
funny how LZ debut album gives extreme reactions :) for Guitar Hack it is the best, for Martin it is their worst, and for Pete it is just not outstanding in any way as far as LZ catalogue is concerned... this is interesting, and its cool in such videos. Personally I would put "I" very high on my own list
I'll throw in my 2 cents: 9. Coda 8. Houses Of The Holy 7. Physical Graffiti 6. Presence 5. IV 4. In Through The Out Door 3. II 2. Self Titled debut 1. III
Interesting choices . 1 : Led Zeppelin 2. ( I forgive you , Martin ). Even though I'm not a big fan of Whole Lotta Love , or the Lemon Song , a number of the other songs would be in my top 10 list of Zeppelin songs . Ramble On would top that list. 2 : Houses of the Holy ( No Quarter and the Ocean are my favourites ) 3 : Led Zeppelin 1 ( Good Times Bad Times and Your Time is Gonna Come ) 4 : Led Zeppelin 4 ( When the Levee Breaks and Going to California ) 5 : Physical Graffiti ( the Rover and Houses of the Holy ) 6 : In Through the Out Door ( Fool in the Rain and I'm Gonna Crawl ) 7 : Presence ( Tea for One and Nobody's Fault but Mine ) 8 : Led Zeppelin 3 ( Since I've Been Loving You and Tangerine ) 9 : Coda ( We're Gonna Groove )
Though I agree with the “ear fatigue” point, I think you have to try to rise above that when making a serious list. Led Zeppelin IV’s impact is undeniable.
Its all overplayed for a reason.
Its all fucking great
I agree, same with Zeppelin II. Everybody trying to be too cute and "contrarian" and ending up sounding silly in the process.

I heard WWL on the radio in 1970 and, not knowing who it was, fell in love with it.
By 1973, I had all the albums.
Pardo the voice of reason here! Hack on crack, Popoff has popped off! 😀
When all the albums are great something has to be at the bottom lol. Cheers
I agree with you Pete on "Out On The Tiles" as being an unsung hero.
Friends too
Megadeth does a cool cover of "Out On The Tiles" on their United Abominations album, the Japanese Import version.Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine also mentioned Tiles as one of his favs by Zep.

Me too killer track off probably my personal favourite
I also agree! 👍
Absolutely. When I bought " In through the out door" in 1979 I hated it. 45 years later.... it has grown on me.
I’m only 28 and used to listen to hip hop growing up.
I discovered Led Zeppelin in 2011 and I’m addicted - like...literally addicted to their music.
It’s special to me in a way, that I’ll never be able to put it into words.
My favourite album, along with my favourite song is
6 - Kashmir
4 - when the levee - tied with Stairway (especially the sunset edition)
2 - ramble on
5 - the rain song
3 - SIBLY
1 - D&C
7 - Achilles (obviously)
8 - ITTOD - I’m gonna crawl
9 - CODA - we’re gonna groove
That being said I live for the live material. I wish they professionally recorded every show especially from 69-72
Definitely a great band. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers
I used to know of a guy in London who had every Zeppelin concert ever played, bar around 3/4 gigs,on tape! (And they were for sale!)
Sorry I dont have his address now (it was a long time ago!)
The recordings do exist, and, if you look on YT,you can possibly find...
Good luck!

the way the high school kids got into zep was IV, HotH, II, I, Physical Graffiti, In through the out door, coda and Presence. that was the way handed down in high school. borrowed a few of these from good friends and had iii on vinyl. last one was Hey Hey what can i do which was hard to find on singles in the mid 80s and i gorthe 45 from a record store in Berkeley. had the songbook which goes up to HotH.

Go Sixers!

cool vid, I had a bit of time watching this and I calculated mean rating (by giving points from 1 to 9 depending how high on each list each album was) and it turned out that:
1. physical graffiti has won hands down (1 position, 8,33 mean rating)
2. houses of the holy (6 rating)
3-4. IV and III ex-equo (5,3 rating)
5. through the out door (5 rating)
6. I (4,6)
7. presence (4,3)
8. II (3,6)
9. coda (2,3)
biggest surprise - low esteem of I and II (mainly beacause of Martins quite a unsuspected placing them on the bottom)
My ranking

8. Led Zeppelin III (1970)
7. In Through The Outdoor (1979)
6. Presence (1976)

With that said:
1: Houses of the Holy (my hot take is that this is extremely cohesive, despite its experimentation)
2: IV (their most cohesive record i think, but it is true that most of the record is overplayed. I generally prefer the more experimental or heavy stuff, but the influence this has is massive.)
3: III (the only song here that i dont absolutely love is Hats Off. It could work on the album, but not as the final track it is. This is my favorite record for Plant. He still has plenty of power, range, and aggression on this one, while incorporating some beautiful performances)
4: Physical Graffiti (their most diverse work, but id argue its as incohesive as Coda. The fact that Plants vocals span from his 1971 peak to his absolute worst in 1975 doesnt help. I love the work on this, but Plant should have taken a break.)
5: In Through the Out Door (not their most monumental achievement, but (sans Hot Dog), theres not a bad track)
6: II (a great album, but i dont come back to this much.)
7: I (Same reasons as II, but Led Zeppelin is less realized at this point than they are when they recorded II)
8: Presence (I love Achilles, and i like the rest. The styles here are fun, but not quite my cup of tea)

Some footage exists on you tube of that short lived collaboration XYZ (featuring Page, Squire and White). Seems OK, project had great potential.
I will say at least these guys were real honest about their pics and they didn’t stick to what people thought was gonna be the normal order

Similar situation here just with a little more Canadian content. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers
Yup.
Interesting. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers
Absolutely infuriating! I can’t believe this guy has written books on Zeppelin. Jimmy’s production skills are off the chart.

This is my list, which probably has something to annoy and anger almost everyone, hehe:
1. IV (Zoso)
2. Houses of the Holy
3. Led Zeppelin II
4. Physical Graffiti
5. In Through the Out Door
6. Led Zeppelin III
7. Led Zeppelin (first album)
8. Presence
9. Coda
Great list! I own 26 copies of ITTOD. One of their most original sounding records. My list is similar but 1. III , 2. Houses of the Holy 3. ITTOD
Carouselambra is THE SHIT!!
Love it!
I feel your pain Martin. I’ve noticed some Genesis and Styx fans become disrespectful if you don’t share the same opinion they do regarding certain albums/songs.
IV was their biggest selling album for a reason . No matter how much shuffling you do, it's always the top card .
Four sticks mountain hop. This cannot be the best album with these two fillers
@@andreijurca5546 lol. fillers. hardly .
I'd be REALLY interested in hearing Martin's opinions on Page's newer remasters especially the vinyls, since he isn't a fan of most of the original productions.
Led Zeppelin........................................ RULES
The guy who masters the lacquer on the vinyl makes a differance on sound levels. Plus 1st pressings are usually the best.
Glad I made you laugh lol. Cheers
@@GuitarHack66 Me too, lol. And in my original post, I meant to say the other *four* albums for the other *four* slots, as opposed to three.
The brown bag on In Through The Out Door came from a quote from Joe Strummer. He called them dinosaurs and said that the only reason anyone bought their records was because of the gimmicky album covers. JP responded saying "We could release an album wrapped in a brown paper bag and still sell a million copies.
And he was fucking right
Agree with guitar hack, can't understand why people have the 1st album way down, it still sounds fresh and I like long songs. 👍

@@gordy3714 I don't know about Purple but Iron Maiden and Aerosmith are possible shows.
@@GuitarHack66 Iron Maiden definitely.
😬 This was a tough one to watch for me. No way I could ever rank them. I'm with you on Darlene hack. Always loved that one.
Definitely hidden gems on that one. Thanks for watching. Cheers
Very cool.
Martin went ham on presence damn.
funny how LZ debut album gives extreme reactions :) for Guitar Hack it is the best, for Martin it is their worst, and for Pete it is just not outstanding in any way as far as LZ catalogue is concerned... this is interesting, and its cool in such videos. Personally I would put "I" very high on my own list
Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers
Agreed. LZ1 is up there for me. Higher than 4.
1.Led Zeppelin IV
2. Physical Graffiti
3. Led Zeppelin 2
4. Houses of the Holy
5 Led Zeppelin 3
Physical Graffiti is number one. That's all I got to say 😎
I'll throw in my 2 cents:
9. Coda
8. Houses Of The Holy
7. Physical Graffiti
6. Presence
5. IV
4. In Through The Out Door
3. II
2. Self Titled debut
2 : Houses of the Holy ( No Quarter and the Ocean are my favourites )
3 : Led Zeppelin 1 ( Good Times Bad Times and Your Time is Gonna Come )
4 : Led Zeppelin 4 ( When the Levee Breaks and Going to California )
5 : Physical Graffiti ( the Rover and Houses of the Holy )
6 : In Through the Out Door ( Fool in the Rain and I'm Gonna Crawl )
7 : Presence ( Tea for One and Nobody's Fault but Mine )
8 : Led Zeppelin 3 ( Since I've Been Loving You and Tangerine )
9 : Coda ( We're Gonna Groove )
Kind of exactly my rank. Only difference is that maybe I would change the order of the first two.
@@BrunoSampietro Cheers !

9. Coda
Love it! Also I love how Martin has like half a dozen favorite albums of all-time
So its favorites not ranking? Easily Presence is the last if we can count the deluxe Coda which is the best deluxe release.
