just got my first lunchbox, I'm getting every upgrade i can find already got the rc pieces aluminum gear box amazing difference from the stock got a brushless setup , aluminum chassis front suspension needs upgraded, and steering LOVE THE LUNCHBOX!!!! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS GOOD JOB PAL!!
Did the full front-end overhaul. Everything fit like it was from the factory. Your explanatory videos are amazing - I balanced the computer on a box near my work area and just followed along. Didn't finish until night time, so only got in a short test run, but it was AWESOME. The Lunchbox handles incredibly well - can hardly believe it.
I am happy you like it. I think it was a big improvement. Did you get the stock offset or 8mm? Just remember that they are not as strong as the originals.
I got the 8mm offset per your recommendation (for high-speed bashers). So far, still delighted after a month of use. Last weekend, I was driving on wet pavement in a parking lot, I slid too far off course (couldn't turn enough) and went full speed directly into a decorative boulder by the side of the lot. There was an audible boom. Body is completely cracked/broken. I saw plastic flying in the air. But only one small section of your suspension mount broke (the part holding the pin that holds the caster block). I was expecting much more carnage. So - I am happy to report that your parts are not the weakest links, even if they are not as strong as the originals.
Ouch! Yeah it sounds like it could have been worse! You ever think of running the lexan shell? It is a great option for a high speed runner. I have a lexan MP lid for mine when I take it out to the track. Are you able ti find the replacement upright on shapeways? I sell everything individually so that replacement parts are cheaper. Hear that Tamiya????
Wanted to report in that I run full brushless (VXL 540) above 40mph on asphalt and off-road with absolutely no restraint. Check out this pic: goo.gl/photos/Y3Pu1GAj6L46LSqJ7 - the aluminum 4-link bracket I run has bent, but there is no damage to your parts (you'll have to trust me, since they are not visible ;). Now, maybe your parts simply didn't suffer any impacts or stresses (hard for me to know) but statistically speaking, given the sheer number of tumbles I took at high speed and the number of curbs I nicked, there was likely some stress on those parts. Your stuff is holding up beautifully! I have at least a dozen packs through with the current printed parts with no issues. Nothing lasts forever, and I am sure those parts will break one of these days, but they are "above the minimum bar" in terms of durability in my book even if they are less strong than nylon or other materials right now.
Wow. The fact that you were able to bend that bracket is quite impressive I must say. I mean I know that my cars have been in some crashes but not at that kind of speed. I mast say that what you are showing is very impressive! Thank you for the images and keep me posted on the parts.
HI Nate, I am glad its working out. I know the parts needed are in a few part lots sadly. I have massive inventory but I try and keep it all within a manufacturer, like Tamiya needing Tamiya hardware in the event you have left overs from other kits. Happy you like it!
You, sir are a genius. Again, thank you for making me feel like a kid again. I'm really hoping these parts are still available and looking forward to buy in these trucks for my son and I to have fun in the backyard.
My dear old dad tried a few things back in the day to stop these things flipping over so easy. Everything from changing the camber by modding the steering hub to making a top link from a old school turn buckle but the most successful thing we ever found was using the balancig beeds from a comercial tyre.
I just discovered your channel ! I have ordered my front arms thank you! My passion for the Pumpkin comes from the Big Bear both cars have given me so much joy.
Great to hear it. Please note that I am serious when I say those arms will not withstand abuse as I mentioned in the video as well as anything hotter than the silver can motor. The tires are just too big and add too much stress. With that said my midnight pumpkin is at the track all the time with the suspension
Hey Ampro, hey Lunchbox owners! While searching for Lunchbox upgrades I came across your video. As always I really enjoyed it! Nevertheless I think it's fair to mention that there are other ways to archieve the independend front suspension. First of all there is a free-to-download version on thingiverse (thing:2334911). This doesn't look as good as yours and has some design issues that have to be fixed before printing. I did this and printed it in PETG and I'm really happy with this solution. The PETG seems to be very rigid and the suspension upgrade is a huge benefit for the Lunchbox. Secondly one could buy the Futaba FX10 A-arms that also fit the Lunchbox Chassis. I hope this comment helps all the Lunchbox enthusiast searching for upgrades. And I apologize for beeing bad for the business, Ampro. ;) :) Best greetings, Robert
the futaba fx 10 arms fit, but the installation requires much more modification and isnt as clean of a fit as the AMPRO design. It also places the shock at an akward angle that has caused some breakage in the lower mount if you dont build a custom mounting solution.
Here there is almost no bump steer now. The knuckles are the same for each side so Im thinking the ball stud moving from top to bottom make the length of the tie rod closer to the length of the arm so that the change is reduced.
I am glad! Just remember these are not for hardcore bashing and I really do not recommend anything more than a good stock motor. I have had awesome reliability but I don't beat on my cars lol! I just don't want anyone disappointed so I always recommend a "light runner"
I just installed these on my lunchbox and the handling difference is incredible!! Iv only had a quick run in the car park and jumping off a few kerbs but it handles like a miniature 8th scale now. I am running brushless so it’s good for 30 mph so I wouldn’t expect them to survive a high speed crash and if the jumps are under two feet high, should be fine. I think, brushed or brushless this is an absolute must for the lunchbox/pumpkin :)
Wow! Well I am glad you like them. I am trying out a new material from hewlett packard and it is supposed to be the strongest 3D printed material on the market!
That sounds great, I’d probably get a pair of those too. Although I’d say these are plenty strong enough for tamiya rc’s. if someone’s going to attempt 8feet jumps with a lunchbox pretty sure something’s gonna break. Tamiya rc’s just aren’t about that. If I want to get massive air I take out the arrma kraton. But this upgrade on the lunchbox has made it much more fun. It can now do so much more. The wider stance although slight seems to make a big difference too, especially when going quick on lumpy ground. Seems to ride much flatter:)
Yeah I totally agree but people get angry when they ignore me and explode their RC car, lol! I also found that the wider stance is not noticeable but makes the MP look better.
Indeed, I think because the lunchbox & pumpkin are quite top heavy rc’s any increase in width helps a lot. Well iv found it certainly does with your 8mm offset arms. And yes it does look better too. I had the Blackfoot in the eighties and my friends had other tamiya’s and They were great back then but your upgrades have brought them further up to date so they can run on brushless systems. I’m tempted to get the grasshopper or hornet now. They’re proper nostalgic for blokes my age :)
Hi, I have just smashed m y Ampro upgrade after I hit a for sale sign support, bummer! Now I must return to the old setup until I get replacement arms, they’re not built to run into stuff. I’ll have to find a clear run! 😀😀
I bought the stock set up kit that you sell in your store. I haven’t driven the car for a while because of a knee replacement and rehab, but my driving could have been better. I am going to replace the broken part or I might buy the stronger wishbone arms to replace the old ones, I have not yet decided.
Hello.. I bought your kit for my punkin and it drove great. It took a easy rollover and the lower control arm broke in 3. I emailed shapway thinking it was you and asked if there is any kind of warranty since it broke in a few minutes of use. I even sent them photos showing the truck was not even scratched when it rolled. I no u said they are not as strong as the o/e ones.Just seems like it broke to easy. but they told me they are sepatate from you. Thanks. Joe K
They there Joe, so all the arms offered now are the much more robust MJF (multijet fusion) material that is much stronger than the arms I have tested and that are on the pumpkin shown running at the track. As noted in all of the item description, these are not as strong as the insanely mushy ABS that Tamiya initially used. Can you tell me if you got the standard width or the wide? Given the nature of the hobby, there is no warranty on these parts but they are all offered as individual replacement parts so you wont need to buy the whole front end again. I don't know what to say about they arm breaking during a light roll over as I do beat on mine quite a lot and what I have are still the original nylon prints. I have seen a bad sinter layer before from shapeways where one part snapped in my hand. This is easy to spot as the break will be a perfectly flat layer. Very rare but still possible. you are welcome to shoot me some images. amproengineering@gmail.com
Do you know when you will have those king Blackfoot parts I know you don't want to dismantle your truck to make them but I would like to use the truck I'll take 4 or 5 sets of them just so I don't get Back in this
You mean that little aluminum u-plate? So They are used on a lot of Tamiya cars like on the front lower suspension mount on the hornet or on the stock CW01. You can get them in some Tamiya parts bags but sadly you are going to have to look and see what bags they are in. My suggestion is to get a plate of aluminum and make your own. That is what I have done for a lot of other project. WAYYYYYY easier and cheaper than sourcing them. You would think Tamiya would make something so useful actually available to the public EASILY.
Yeah those are from ebay. they are adjustable turn buckles that you need to get in the correct length. You will need a 3mm threaded ball cup to accept the 3mm turnbuckle.
It really helps the CW01 but the added mass of the truck and tires puts them under a lot of stress. They cannot take anything more than the stock motor.
Hi Alberto. Thanks for the great tutorial. Pretty much decided now that I'll get a Lunchbox and your front suspension parts. The only thing I don't know is what oil-filled shocks are on the chassis in your video? Thanks!
Thank you! Mine are the original Tamiya Short CVA shocks. Tamiys still makes them for this truck though they are updated and look a bit different. The Tamiya site shows them as a hop up option.
Thanks. I am going to check a local hobby shop sometime before the weeknd. If I don't find what I need I'll have to install the stock arms. I am very happy with the wheelie bar wheel and especially the trans. brace. You should consider selling your pieces with all necessary hardware. This is not a moan or a complaint, just a suggestion. Thanks
Thanks for this Mod..Just Completed Today,And Wow! what a difference!..Waiting for parts for the MB to change out that shoddy rearend setup to the new and improved!..thanks man! keepum comin!
No they are still the same. Tests have shown that they are about as strong as SLS nylon permits. The offset differences are for a stock look (zero) and more stability (8mm). Hope that helps!
It is a good one but the nylon plastics used are rigid and therefore not good for bashing as the factory ABS can bend like crazy. Still, i have run my for years with no issue but a lot of people make theirs way too fast and crash once...and nylon sprinkles the yard.
Oh you can find that on the AMPro YouMagine site. Right now the STL files are available but we will have print options soon! youmagine.com/designs/08c3e767-97da-4ca7-989b-d1af993b55fa
There is a piece that you manufacture that is in the center underneath the front bulkhead bridge let’s call it that extends the arms location downward or upward depending if the vehicle is upside down, and in the original location where the Pajaro would have its a arms you have installed a small assembly that has two ball screws and I do not see that at sheep weighs sold on its own. I only see that part sold together in the entire kit. Can that be sold separately? Call me
Do they still make this truck? I was wondering if it was hard to get parts for this truck I see online the transmission gear was discontinued I'm in fear is they will stop.making parts
Yes, episode 3 and 7 show different versions using the stock front springs or touring car shocks. There is also a version with cantilever suspension. That is episode 63. Please note that modifications to the Grassshopper body is needed since the GH uses the same mounts for the body as I use for the upper link mount.
Alberto, I've nearly got my Piecemeal CW-01 finished! I'm down to just needing an ESC, body and reciever. I temporarily swapped the ESC and reciever from my Landfreeder into it - because I just HAD to try it! 😲 OMFG!! It can do something that no other CW-01 can.... TURN - and stay on its wheels!!! 👍👍😎🍺🍺🍺 No more irritating toe-in and bow when run in reverse, in fact, NO measurable toe or camber change at ALL! I am just so excited and grateful to you for these. Now, I'm going to piecemeal myself a Hornet - just so I can try your front - and rear independent suspension on it!! Thank you my friend - from all of us - for improving our favorite Tamiya vehicles!
I've been promoting the crap out of AmPro on the Google+ Groups I'm in. Sometimes, I end up sounding more like a ten year old than a 53 yr old! I'm legitimately excited about your innovations. These are things that I HOPED for(with thousands of others), since the early 80's!! We're approaching the time when 3D printing will finally be going mainstream, and production costs are going down. That will attribute a wider market, and increased success for you! ~ Carmine
Serious! That is very kind of you! It is good that we sound like 10 years olds though, I mean look how much fun they have. What is the point of sounding our age? Then we would just complain about everything. You are right though, 3D printing will only get better and cheaper!
I'm happy to! I believe in your products! And yeah, I've always been a big kid. In these times where my family has been "financially challenged" - being an overgrown 10 year old is almost therapeutic... ~ Carmine
All the parts are covered in the video. Basically you need screw pins which can only be purchased in bags from other Tamiya kits. I usually get them from the stadium blitzer. Threaded rod For the turnbuckles as well as ball cups and ball studs.
@@AMPROEngineering awesome thanks for your quick reply i ordered my ampro 0 offset double wishbone & trans brace yesterday along with a set of absima oil dampers seeing your products actually persuaded me to buy another lunchbox i had one years ago👍🏼
G’day mr Ampro, I bought one of these upgrades a few years ago and it has been great. I upgraded my chassis yesterday with a new aluminium chassis from RcAidong. Unfortunately there is no place to fit some of the parts due to it being a flat front end. Might you have something to fix the steering another way? Thanks for your help, Eric.
Oh shoot, i'm sorry to hear that! I unfortunately do not offer anything for other aftermarket chassis as a result of not owning them. Perhaps an l-bracket to support it? I am sorry I am not of more help. Feel free and shoot me an email to see if I have an idea. amproengineering@gmail.com
As much as I enjoy your excellent improvements to our beloved Midnight Pumpkin, I enjoyed your whale's pelvis analogy and use of the word interestingness more. Keep up the good work!
Hello! Love the cantilever setup for the Hornet chassis! Have you made a setup for the Mad Bull Chassis? Very similar in design, just wider. I'd be very interested in acquiring one from you. Also, the rear suspension for the hornet....I've seen people create a multi link trailing arm setup...modification of the rear axle housing is required....anything? Thanks! Ken G
I am glad you like it! As of now, I do not own a mad bull but that may be on the list. The Hornet rear suspension upgrade has been in the works for years and is now a few weeks from completion and testing. Trust me you will love it!
Yes, shapeways has a couple of new and much stronger plastics but they cost WAY more. I will have them on myminifactory soon for home prints so they can be made in ABS.
I would like to say how beautifully simple your suspension design is! (simple is best) I would however like to point out that a little bit of camber change is desirable when compressed.. this is to counter radial tyre forces when cornering.. usually this is achieved by having a shorter top arm or lowering the chassis end of the top link... (I suspect you may already know this) your system seems to illuminated bump steer
Correct but the spacing on the zero offset version is so tight that it would hit the shock! I tried but could not get it all to work easily. Thank you for your kind words.
Goog stuff!!!! My boys just built their first kit, the UniMog ... They loved the build but are concerned at all the goofy looking toe out.. Lol.... I took your advise before with the Blackfoot rerelease grill insert and am going to be doing that soon.. But this looks like a must do upgrade... Thanks!
You are welcome! This is a cool one since I was mainly annoyed with how dumb the truck looks reversing and collapsing the front end. I would go with the wide track version. The width increase is subtle but it is more stable.
Just curious, what's the distance (ball center to ball center) for the wider offset arms since its about 60mm for the 0-offset arms. I'm definitely getting this upgrade for my Black Edition Lunchbox. I'm using stiffer springs and 1spacer in each shock in the front just so the front end doesn't dive so bad in reverse. I just have to find where to get the ball ends and threaded rod since my local hobby shop doesn't carry that and he's not going to be around much longer since he's selling the building and leaving the business-like all the other hobby shops I've known.
Hey there, I will need to check this evening. As for ball ends, ball studs and tie rods, I use ebay. That's the simplest for me. I would get a threaded rod and cut to length versus a specific pre-made tie rod. Sad how so many hobby shops are closing. The hobby is simply not evolving to childrens taste today.
I've done the trans brace, locking diff and a few other bits this seems more complicated just from the number of additional parts (screws and fittings) am I being overly cautious ?? Ps your videos are awesome !! Thanks for the effort you put in
bro the work your doing is awesome, I've tagged your videos on my tumbler. get the word out about proper upgrades. by the way where can I get the cups u have?
Yup, link to the CW01 section in the video description. You need to supply your hardware and this is not intending for bashing or any motor other than the stock silver can.
Lots but no one listens to me. They are all running mods. This will only work with a silver can. I have a vid coming soon where I take this to the track and hammer it. Nothing broke but again...silver can! Haha!
Hi, I did the double wishbone conversion on my CW-01 Unimog a few years ago. Unfortunately I've just noticed that a section on one arm has cracked. Can you recommend an adhesive that might be used to bond the 3D material together? Hope you can help, thanks, Dave.
Hello Joe, both versions are in here: www.shapeways.com/shops/ampro?section=CW01+Wheelie+Chassis&s=0 Please remember, and I cannot stress this enough, that this is not intended for hard bashers nor is it for novice drivers. They Nylon has served me well with no problems but I run a stock silver can motor and I am experienced. I have had all to many installed on 50 mph brushless CW01's and they will in no way survive any impact at that speed. Just a heads up that these are perfect for a light runner and not much more.
Glad you like it! Remember I only recommend a stock motor. As for parts, I don't have any part numbers or any of that since people seldom can get the same parts around the world. I describe what you need in the video but you are right, I do need a parts list. Let me see if I can put one together in the next couple days and add it to the description.
Thank you that would be great. Don't worry I'll be sticking with the std 540 motor, might even go for 35t or weaker as I intend to use the truck as a light crawler or trail driver and as such may also order the diff locker you make. Having just taken the truck on its maiden run and noticed the knocking sound as the transmission twists with power on and off I think the rear transmission case mod could be a good idea too. Are there any mods you sell for the CW-01 besides the three I mention above and is there an option to buy all three at a discount? Many thanks.
The trans case mod is seriously the best thing you can do for it. I also make a rear shock mount but am planning rear IRS as well as a bed for the Unimog but those are a long ways away. I wish I could do discounts but shapeways isn't set up like that. I can see what I can do though, i have some prototypes laying about that work fine but are in different materials.
Thanks Ampro but what's an IRS, independent rear suspension? Also, I have another one for your list, would it be possible to increase the wheelbase of the CW-01 by extending the rear transmission mounts? The reason I ask is because the rear tyres don't line up with the rear wheel arches of the body and instead sit noticeably in front of them. For scale realism and handling a slightly longer wheelbase would be better. I'm imagining replacing the two existing mounts with a single piece that spans the width of the chassis and is screwed in at the same points either side. It could also incorporate the transmission brace too.
Oh sorry! Independent Rear Suspension. I just did that for my Hornet (same trans, see episode 68). I have had that idea also. I may need to do that as it is not a major pain.
Tamiya calls that bracket a "Spring Mount". It comes in many of the metal parts bags in Tamiya kits.I think the part number is 9805082 but the only way to get them alone is on eBay for way too much. Find a parts bag that has them for a little more money and you will get other goodies too.
great video! I just ordered the HD ones and you mentioned on the product page that I need to put 2mm thread through the center pivot and glue it. I didn't see you do that on this video. Do you mean just glue in the screw pins?
No, there is a hole through where the arm pivots on the chassis. You will see when you get it. You need to drill it out with a 2mm bit to clear the hole and then glue in the rod. You cannot run anything more than a stock silver can with these arms either. The mass of the front tires plus a crash will not end well.
Hi I just sat down to start working on these.. One arm went fine while drilling the 2mm hole. The other arm, while drilling very carefully, cracked in the middle and now there is a hole in it. Can you send me another arm?
photos.app.goo.gl/vmycFUsm6TF33nUv5 here's pictures of the arm where it randomly cracked. I don't understand why it did this. the other arm had no issues.
That is such a cool upgrade! My Bro has it, plus your rear shock brace, and the "slop stopper" as he's called it. Does your new IRS kit work on these too?
Oh.... Could you please tell me where you got the Pumpkin lexan body? My buddy's rig is done, except for an ESC and body, and the body's going to be the most expensive part. I'd run out and buy him one, but I dumped all my spare cash into his PayPal account. Hopefully, that's not a really expensive body. He's always loved that Pumpkin Ford body.... Murph
Oh man, that body has got to be 20 years old. I think it is a parma shell. I think Team Blue Groove makes on (on Ebay) but I know Tamiya does make a clear shell for their onroad pumpkin on the M06 Chassis.
Alberto, HOW did the sound end up getting SO out of sync??? 😲😳 Anyway, you mentioned that upgraded Arms were available for this. With holes drilled for Rods to go through the Arm Pivots... I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the Shapeways Store?
That's weird...seems fine for me. Maybe you had a brief network outage. I have that happen a few times. As for the arm, look for this one in the CW01 section 070005-02 Single HD CW01 WIDE 8mm Offset Arm
@@AMPROEngineering We did just get a new Router... Weird. 😲 Thanks, I'll take a look at those! BTW, the original, 2 year old Arms are still going strong!!
@@AMPROEngineering Awesome good to hear! I am guessing that is to prevent people re-selling your work? At least you're covered now! Btw is there any eta on when they will go up?
Glad you like it Mike! Like I tell everyone, the meaty tires on the CW01 mean that there is a lot of load on these arms. Bashing will destroy them and I recommend nothing faster than the stock silver can motor.
Thank you very much. They are a lot of fun to design. Yes I did. I designed them in 2006 and printed them in 2013 finally. They are 1:10 scale versions of the American Racing Vector wheels. Standard touring car dimensions. They are also on Shapeways. I have a video for all my Tamiya High Lift parts soon!
Yes, they were on our store but they closed down and we are getting the store going on a new site. At the moment, you can home print these here. youmagine.com/designs/e5945ed1-4c62-4f4a-b8d8-f4c0a8a02f5b#top
Ah ha texts have a way of coming through just at the wrong time, they do with me anyway. Love the channel. I'm building a LB at the minute. Started with a neo scorcher and decided to go retro.
AMPRO Engineering myself too on the old car. Until recently my full size hack was a 1992 BMW 325i in a deep charcoal black. I had it 10 years. 90s epitomised. It finally went and my misses who moaned about its age most the time I had it said the other day she missed it now it was gone as it stood out and looked and sounded "cool". Women!
Can you make the entire kit with ball cups and threaded rods so I can buy it from you for my 7 yr old son. We just bought the Metalic midnight Pump and have a second one we will not open and throw in the attic. I need it in a kit form so he can just build it on his own (his first solo build) and I need to add this into the kit for him. Please can you help a dad out? P.S. you fixed my 5 yr old daughter's Vintage Blackfoot(I gave her my Blackfoot I owned from 88) she did not like the top but appreciated it and loved it. The parts were bought in purple her favorite color and she points those out to everyone that asks. Yes, she installed them with help from her brother. They watched your video. The Blackfoot is now a Black edition monster beetle. completely converted with the black parts. Ok, so can you make a kit for them to install on a Midnight. The front-end parts I see online, but buying the cups and balls and rod is posing a problem. I can; not source the stuff from one local. I think the whole kit with hardware would sell. I know I would push them at the club we crawl with. THere are 5 boxes and 4 pumpkins oh and hornets and grasshoppers as well.
I sadly dont have the time to do that. I wish I dud but for a 7 year old, you should keep the stock front end. The factory ABS is really soft and can take a beating. this front end is nylon and really cant be bashed. Glad your daughter is running that blackfoot!
Hello and probably you will not remember our short conversation in the comment section of your other Midnight Pumpkin 🎃 - Video?! My English was not good enough to call the piece by it's name you asked me after I told you which was responsible to ruin over & over the fun with this cool R/C Monster Truck because it broke over and over again & ordered new ones with a delayed of delivery (import to west Germany/Bavaria) from 5 to 8 weeks. I was so upset as a kid, maybe you can imagine what it means to see my brother driving and jumping around with his "pretty normal looking, standard R/C Truck. About our driving style: Not bashing btw. I would say jumping on little ramps out of carton-boxes or a little race-tracks we build with dirt in a little field in front of our house ... let’s say between 7 to 25 cm with soft landings in the grass and mine broke sometimes after 2 or 5 minutes of driving. My Pumpkin was painted in silver with blue flames on it & took around one year to have the money to buy it. (Pocket Money & money of B-Day, X-Mas and Easter 🐣 etc.) It was my first self-built R/C car around middle - late 80's and I was so proud because it looked way much cooler, for example than my 2 years older brothers Truck (I think he had a KYOSHO Monster Truck around the same price class?!). So, sorry fo the long text but now I can finally answer your question because of this nice video here: Exactly this little white piece in your hands @ 18:11 / or @25:33 the only white plastic part. (I wonder why you had no problems with it?! Mmh, maybe because I hat the first serial main production of the 🎃 and later it was a better material?!) Now I hate myself that I sold it to another kid after 2 years or so because I couldn’t afford the money for this "little demon of a crappy but important piece/part" ;] With kindest regards and a compliment to your nice videos who reminding me of my childhood as a young beginner of such a wonderful hobby! 👍🏼🙏 PS: again sorry for the long text & keep on going with your clips ;] ✌🏼
Oh that spindle? Hmmm...i guess with the silver can motor it never seemed to be over stressed? I can imagine that with a hot motor it could easily break off in an impact. As you say, my driving style is light to say the least so this is a contributing factor for sure!
Was that a naughty word at 8:38 ! Did you mean to leave that in ? Anyway you've got some great products. Shame that the shipping from the US to the UK is a bit expensive but I suppose it is quite a long way !
Great question. What servo saver are you using? I have the stock one that is a bit longer (and sloppier) than the usual aftermarket versions so that improves the servo throw. That is about all I have done to mine the issue with the truck is that those big tires always get in the way when you try to make them turn more.
Hi Eddie, don't worry about it man. I hate when people don't reply to me. Yes, I do. I have a rear swing arm brace which solves the warped and broken rear shock mounts as well as allows you to install a larger array of shocks. I have an antenna mount but I don't think that will work for the MB. I will be making new front upper and lower arms in a more flexible plastic vs the stock stuff. More stuff down the line!
never ceases to amaze me how much the wheels and tires wobble on the pumpkin and lunchbox i remember as kids we would rip on these 2 trucks joking around about what pieces of shit they were! lol
I have run these at the race track a lot but I run a stock motor. I have pulled the nylon versions and now have only offer the HP plastic with metal reinforced rods. Its likely I will pull these forever as soon as the rear IRS rear end is complete.
@@AMPROEngineering i ran stock motor on 6cell nimh and small crashes into obstacles in the back yard broke two of them.. I had purchased the HD wide arms. very disappointed in the durability
Just fitted this kit on my 'Racebox' Here you can see it befor the upgrade: aurigarius.blogspot.com/2019/02/meine-racebox-tamiya-lunchbox-im.html Installing was a breeze. All fitted just fine. Great piece of kit. Greetings from Germany
These are 3D printing prices. I do not set them. This is what shapeways charges, not me. Shapeways is based out of the Netherlands so maybe there are no import duties there. I also sell the STL on my mini factory.
This is one of those videos that gets the thumb down from me, so little content so thinly spaced out and with so much over explanation, just get to the point, intros are useless on TH-cam we've clicked on your channel we know what we're watching we don't need an intro. Just thought I'd stop and give you the feedback
just got my first lunchbox, I'm getting every upgrade i can find already got the rc pieces aluminum gear box amazing difference from the stock
got a brushless setup , aluminum chassis front suspension needs upgraded, and steering LOVE THE LUNCHBOX!!!! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS GOOD JOB PAL!!
Thank you! I really loved this mod. The trucks run a lot better now.
I used this mod on my sons Midnight Pumpkin , it works perfectly. It took some doing to gather all the parts I needed, but it was worth it. Thank you
HI Nate, I am glad its working out.
You are far too kind!
My dear old dad tried a few things back in the day to stop these things flipping over so easy. Everything from changing the camber by modding the steering hub to making a top link from a old school turn buckle but the most successful thing we ever found was using the balancig beeds from a comercial tyre.
Yeah I remember trying everything for these things too. Weights were a good idea!
@@AMPROEngineering I just run mine around the local park and my front yard. After watching yours jump onto the road I figured it would be ok!
Yeah sadly those are stolen versions of my designs. The FX10 upgrade is a good one too but I have not done it myself. I should look into it.
the futaba fx 10 arms fit, but the installation requires much more modification and isnt as clean of a fit as the AMPRO design. It also places the shock at an akward angle that has caused some breakage in the lower mount if you dont build a custom mounting solution.
Damn I've never seen a pumpkin land or even take off that way you did an awesome job.
LOL! That's the truth.
swapping the steering knuckles left on right etc might also work to keep the wheels on a zero camber it does with a lot of other tamiya cars
Here there is almost no bump steer now. The knuckles are the same for each side so Im thinking the ball stud moving from top to bottom make the length of the tie rod closer to the length of the arm so that the change is reduced.
@@AMPROEngineering cool thanks for the reply
Just ordered these parts for me and my pops from your shapeways! Can't wait for them to come
I am glad! Just remember these are not for hardcore bashing and I really do not recommend anything more than a good stock motor. I have had awesome reliability but I don't beat on my cars lol! I just don't want anyone disappointed so I always recommend a "light runner"
haha yeah me and my dad don't really bash lol! Only a good race or two haha.... Thanks!
They’re proper nostalgic for blokes my age :)
good modification, it looks very functional and easy to assemble. hopefully one day you will invent one for the tamiya dt01. Cheers!!
Thank you! I was given an original Fighter buggy from a friend of mine and it is going to get something like this for sure.
Wow yours looks very nice my 1st rc was lunch box still have it and midnight pumpkin
Glad to hear it! I love these cars.
Great design and video!! Blackfoot wheels with those tires work great and dont need glued.
Thank you!
Hi, I have just smashed m y Ampro upgrade after I hit a for sale sign support, bummer! Now I must return to the old setup until I get replacement arms, they’re not built to run into stuff.
I’ll have to find a clear run! 😀😀
Are they the new HD ones? Are you running a stock motor?
I bought the stock set up kit that you sell in your store. I haven’t driven the car for a while because of a knee replacement and rehab, but my driving could have been better. I am going to replace the broken part or I might buy the stronger wishbone arms to replace the old ones, I have not yet decided.
I am running the Tamiya Dirt Tuned motor, which I find is very fun to drive!
This is great to see how much you can improve on these RCs
Well thank you!
Do you know when you will have those king Blackfoot parts I know you don't want to dismantle your truck to make them but I would like to use the truck I'll take 4 or 5 sets of them just so I don't get Back in this
No idea. I am going to work on the ORV soon.
PP, never realized you had a YT channel for your stuff. Great work my friend. Subbed.
Well thank you! I also didn't know you had one! Subbed back at ya!
Any chance you might be able to release these some where other than Shapeways now that they seem to have taken a dump on their customer base.
YES! I will have everything you YouMagine shortly. They will have printable options.
Where can I find those upper shock conversion so I can go with a regular damper instead of the stock impossible to find/over priced ones?
You mean that little aluminum u-plate? So They are used on a lot of Tamiya cars like on the front lower suspension mount on the hornet or on the stock CW01. You can get them in some Tamiya parts bags but sadly you are going to have to look and see what bags they are in. My suggestion is to get a plate of aluminum and make your own. That is what I have done for a lot of other project. WAYYYYYY easier and cheaper than sourcing them. You would think Tamiya would make something so useful actually available to the public EASILY.
Where did you get the turn rods and ball caps for it? Looks like you can adjust with out taking of the caps. trying finds ones that fit the MP.
Yeah those are from ebay. they are adjustable turn buckles that you need to get in the correct length. You will need a 3mm threaded ball cup to accept the 3mm turnbuckle.
I have 2 CW01 chassis, this upgrade seems very interesting and useful.
It really helps the CW01 but the added mass of the truck and tires puts them under a lot of stress. They cannot take anything more than the stock motor.
looks great the pumpkin, got the upgrade, now installing it. thanks.
Nice!
A symphony indeed. I need some threaded rod and ball cups, or ends...I don't have a stockpile of parts. Where might I look online?
Hey Peter, I would look on ebay. This is where i get everything!
Thanks
I wish I had the time to do that but it is so hard for me to get things like that together and sell on ebay.
Thanks for this Mod..Just Completed Today,And Wow! what a difference!..Waiting for parts for the MB to change out that shoddy rearend setup to the new and improved!..thanks man! keepum comin!
That rear end brace makes a massive difference! Glad you like the parts!
Iam going to get them great video I wish someone would 3d print some tamiya madcap front and rear bumpers
Thanks! Ill have them all on MyMiniFactory soon.
has there been a redesign, What is the difference between these and the offset...or what is each differnt purpose?
No they are still the same. Tests have shown that they are about as strong as SLS nylon permits. The offset differences are for a stock look (zero) and more stability (8mm). Hope that helps!
Did you get to the king Blackfoot front end parts yet
Ill post here when I do. I am close.
I like this hop up. I'm gonna get a Pumpkin and do this mod. Never liked the front end before.
It is a good one but the nylon plastics used are rigid and therefore not good for bashing as the factory ABS can bend like crazy. Still, i have run my for years with no issue but a lot of people make theirs way too fast and crash once...and nylon sprinkles the yard.
Where can I find the upper suspension link behind bumper?
Call me
It is in the CW01 Section
shpws.me/Mp6R
There is the link
Do they still make this truck? I was wondering if it was hard to get parts for this truck I see online the transmission gear was discontinued I'm in fear is they will stop.making parts
They sure do! It is a really great seller to this day.
@@AMPROEngineering I was shocked when I looked at it seems they don't sell replacement gears on the website says Discontinued
is there something like this for a grasshopper?
Yes, episode 3 and 7 show different versions using the stock front springs or touring car shocks. There is also a version with cantilever suspension. That is episode 63. Please note that modifications to the Grassshopper body is needed since the GH uses the same mounts for the body as I use for the upper link mount.
How can I order this ? I just purchased the midnight pumpkin and would love to install this
There is a link in the description to the parts on Shapeways (minus hardware). They will be on my mini factory soon for home print.
Alberto, I've nearly got my Piecemeal CW-01 finished! I'm down to just needing an ESC, body and reciever.
I temporarily swapped the ESC and reciever from my Landfreeder into it - because I just HAD to try it! 😲
OMFG!!
Hahahahahha! I know what you mean! I am glad you like it!

Can you please give me a list of the additional parts i need that are not in the lunchbox kit
Thanks
No worries mate, I’ll leave it as is, but I will definitely get the rear chassis/diff fix, it’s a brilliant idea. Thanks for all of your help.
As much as I enjoy your excellent improvements to our beloved Midnight Pumpkin, I enjoyed your whale's pelvis analogy and use of the word interestingness more. Keep up the good work!
Hahah! I thought that was creative too.
Hello again. I've got a Pumpkin and I am going to try your 8mm offset front arms. What shocks do you recommend please? Thanks.
Hi. Can I please have a list of the hardware needed to install these front arms?
Isn't the Mad Bull a G2 chassis?
Is it possible to get these made out of the more hard wearing plastics that shapeways have?
Yes, shapeways has a couple of new and much stronger plastics but they cost WAY more. I will have them on myminifactory soon for home prints so they can be made in ABS.
@@AMPROEngineering Damn it, guess it's time to pick up a 3d printer
@@AMPROEngineering Well... I bought one. Any chance of them being on MyMiniFactory some time soon?
I got mine in 91 thanks I'm ordering 3 kits 2 for mine and 1 for my son's
Oh awesome! Remember that these are not great for bashing and you need to run the stock sliver can. I love these so much since I put them in all mine.
Just gotten my 1st lunchbox as a gift, can I use WR rims on Lunchbox?
I am pretty sure the hubs and offset are different.
I got my threaded rod, M3 500mm from this Seller on Ebay for $.3.71... cskwin2015.
China,so it will take about 10 working days for delivery.
you can't beat that price!
I've done the trans brace, locking diff and a few other bits this seems more complicated just from the number of additional parts (screws and fittings) am I being overly cautious ?? Ps your videos are awesome !! Thanks for the effort you put in
No you are correct. There are a lot of parts for this an this is also weaker than the stock arms. I have an HD set that I need to do a video on soon!
bro the work your doing is awesome, I've tagged your videos on my tumbler. get the word out about proper upgrades. by the way where can I get the cups u have?
Oh thanks! I really appreciate it. All the hardware I use I purchased on eBay. For me it is by far the easiest way to get all the bits I need.
You sold me! I just bought a set for my lunchbox!
Nice! Remember that the big tires of the LB can put a big load on the arms so I always recommend a silvercan with these.
Hi there do they still do this upgrade? Can’t find anything on shapeways at the moment?
Yup, link to the CW01 section in the video description. You need to supply your hardware and this is not intending for bashing or any motor other than the stock silver can.
I think it's time to my this upgrade for my Lunchbox.. has there been problems with people braking the A arms?
Never mind just got to the end of the video were you said they are strong
Lots but no one listens to me. They are all running mods. This will only work with a silver can. I have a vid coming soon where I take this to the track and hammer it. Nothing broke but again...silver can! Haha!
Oh they are but they cannot be bashed and need a silver can motor. I have run mine for 4 years now.
I only have an RS540 so not much faster than normal I'm expecting ...cannot wait to see that video 👍
Gotcha. I will edit it soon. I still need to edit the Pumpkin Buyers Guide!
Does GPM steering arm LB160STM work with Futaba servo?
Oh sorry man I dont.
Will the 3x22 mm screwpins be long enough?.I have some laying around I could use . Thanks, and great work! Makes me want to get into 3D printing!
Yes, the width of the arm there is 21mm. A 22mm shaft including the threads will be perfect.
Hi, I did the double wishbone conversion on my CW-01 Unimog a few years ago. Unfortunately I've just noticed that a section on one arm has cracked. Can you recommend an adhesive that might be used to bond the 3D material together? Hope you can help, thanks, Dave.
Hey Dave, I sure can! Super glue works awesome on nylon. It absorbs in there and makes a great bond.
Thanks Ampro I’ll give it a go. I think I have some Tamiya CA glue in a glass jar, that’s the same stuff isn’t it?
Does this work on the original or just the 2015?
Yes, this one here is an original
Hi , what diameter threaded rod did you use? thanks
I use m3 all thread.
Loved the slow-mo jumps!
Right?! I need to do that on all my videos, even if unrelated!
I looked on the AMPRO sir for the CW01Front Suspension Upgrade but I could not find this kit. Do you have a part number??? I can't wait to get this!
Hello Joe, both versions are in here:
www.shapeways.com/shops/ampro?section=CW01+Wheelie+Chassis&s=0
Please remember, and I cannot stress this enough, that this is not intended for hard bashers nor is it for novice drivers. They Nylon has served me well with no problems but I run a stock silver can motor and I am experienced. I have had all to many installed on 50 mph brushless CW01's and they will in no way survive any impact at that speed. Just a heads up that these are perfect for a light runner and not much more.
AMPRO Engineering That's great and this will be for my Sunday driver. Thanks for the heads up and great work!
Sorry what’s the difference between the lunch box and the midnight pumpkin
Just the body and body mounts.
Looks good, I'll be ordering this for my Unimog CW-01. Do you have a parts list for the other required, ball studs, ball cups etc?
I may need to do that as it is not a major pain.
would you happen to know the part number on the shock mounting brackets ?
I need some too...........www.ebay.com/p/Tamiya-Spring-Mount-58035-2pc-Tam9805082/1100226983
Tamiya calls that bracket a "Spring Mount". It comes in many of the metal parts bags in Tamiya kits.I think the part number is 9805082 but the only way to get them alone is on eBay for way too much. Find a parts bag that has them for a little more money and you will get other goodies too.
they are a bit much alone..I must agree
great video!
@@AMPROEngineering I currently am running an even slower motor because my little boy likes to drive it. I just am sick of the bump steer haha
Hi I just sat down to start working on these.. One arm went fine while drilling the 2mm hole. The other arm, while drilling very carefully, cracked in the middle and now there is a hole in it. Can you send me another arm?
also is CA glue safe to use on the arms to glue the rod?
photos.app.goo.gl/vmycFUsm6TF33nUv5 here's pictures of the arm where it randomly cracked. I don't understand why it did this. the other arm had no issues.
So you don't Recommend tamiya sport turn motor
For me, the CW01 needs nothing more that the silver can. With the nylon arms, I feel more that way since they are not soft like the stock ABS arms.
Are you still making stuff for pumpkins
For now yes. It is all on shapeways.com in the Ampro Engineering store.
@@AMPROEngineering Thanks I ordered some stuff over the weekend for my pumpkin thank you
That is such a cool upgrade!

Oh man, that body has got to be 20 years old. I think it is a parma shell. I think Team Blue Groove makes on (on Ebay) but I know Tamiya does make a clear shell for their onroad pumpkin on the M06 Chassis.
Oh yeah! I forgot about the Lowride Pumpkin. Thanks!
Alberto, HOW did the sound end up getting SO out of sync??? 😲😳
Anyway, you mentioned that upgraded Arms were available for this.
Weird. 😲
Thanks, I'll take a look at those! BTW, the original, 2 year old Arms are still going strong!!
@@AMPROEngineering It's out of sync from 8.17 and outwards. But I don't remeber it was like that when this was released...
Hey do you have the stl file I could buy to print myself at home please?
Yes, they are going on the Ampro MyMiniFactory page. Just finished talking to a lawyer about it so we are good.
@@AMPROEngineering Awesome good to hear! I am guessing that is to prevent people re-selling your work? At least you're covered now! Btw is there any eta on when they will go up?
Are you using Tamiya 5mm Ball Connectors ?
Yup, they seem to measure at 4.8 but those are the ones. I use almost all Tamiya hardware.
Is it weird as someone born after the Lunchbox was obsolete to want one? Maybe it's because my first hobby grade was the Tamtech Frog.
Na, it is all about the fun value. Sure it's old and outdated but that doesn't mean it isn't awesome.
I gotta get this upgrade for mine
Glad you like it Mike! Like I tell everyone, the meaty tires on the CW01 mean that there is a lot of load on these arms. Bashing will destroy them and I recommend nothing faster than the stock silver can motor.
Your designs are awesome!! Very nice looking with great functionality! Did you make the wheels at :06 in the intro?
Thank you very much. They are a lot of fun to design. Yes I did. I designed them in 2006 and printed them in 2013 finally. They are 1:10 scale versions of the American Racing Vector wheels. Standard touring car dimensions. They are also on Shapeways. I have a video for all my Tamiya High Lift parts soon!
Where i can find those shocks?
These are stock Tamiya upgrade CW01 units. I got mine on ebay.
After 8 years are you still selling them
Yes, they were on our store but they closed down and we are getting the store going on a new site. At the moment, you can home print these here. youmagine.com/designs/e5945ed1-4c62-4f4a-b8d8-f4c0a8a02f5b#top
This... is... awesome!
Thank you!
@@AMPROEngineering I'll be looking to buy a set in a few months after I pull my Lunch Box out of storage and make sure it's not too far gone.
What happened at the 8:16 mark ha :-)?
Lol, I just edited it but one of my colleagues was texting me about a design we were working on. It was irritating me.
Ah ha texts have a way of coming through just at the wrong time, they do with me anyway. Love the channel. I'm building a LB at the minute. Started with a neo scorcher and decided to go retro.
Yes they do. I am (clearly) all about retro. Even my big car is 40 years old, lol.
Women!
Yes, sadly hindsight is always too late.
Is that the normal suspension
No the stock suspension is a swing arm with camber gain.
(Pocket Money & money of B-Day, X-Mas and Easter 🐣 etc.)
It was my first self-built R/C car around middle - late 80's and I was so proud because it looked way much cooler, for example than my 2 years older brothers Truck (I think he had a KYOSHO Monster Truck around the same price class?!).
So, sorry fo the long text but now I can finally answer your question because of this nice video here:
Exactly this little white piece in your hands @ 18:11 / or @25:33 the only white plastic part.
(I wonder why you had no problems with it?! Mmh, maybe because I hat the first serial main production of the 🎃 and later it was a better material?!)
Now I hate myself that I sold it to another kid after 2 years or so because I couldn’t afford the money for this "little demon of a crappy but important piece/part" ;]
With kindest regards and a compliment to your nice videos who reminding me of my childhood as a young beginner of such a wonderful hobby! 👍🏼🙏
PS: again sorry for the long text & keep on going with your clips ;] ✌🏼
Oh that spindle? Hmmm...i guess with the silver can motor it never seemed to be over stressed? I can imagine that with a hot motor it could easily break off in an impact. As you say, my driving style is light to say the least so this is a contributing factor for sure!
You should sell the STL file for these and all your parts
I used to, then other people started to sell them as their own or my favorite, companies in china started making my parts.
Was that a naughty word at 8:38 ! Did you mean to leave that in ? Anyway you've got some great products. Shame that the shipping from the US to the UK is a bit expensive but I suppose it is quite a long way !
OMG. Yes. Whoops. Sorry bout that. Oh and Shapeways is in UK also so shipping should be low.
Oh yeah, I've found your stuff on their website. Thanks for the info :-)
Pete Wylie RC Videos I didn’t hear one
were did you purchase the screwpin
I found some
Sorry for the delay. Glad you found some. I get everything on eBay.
AMPRO Engineering that's were I found the ones i ordered
Finding this video almost makes me want a Pumpkin or Lunchbox .... now tonfigure out how to make steering and rear suspension decent...lol
I have a rear IRS coming soon for it.
I have a full IRS for the rear end that I made that is going in soon!
5:00 should have been the video thumbnail you would have gotten 10,000,000 views.
LOL good point
hi...do you have any suggestions for lunchbox steering circle upgrades? the standard steering circle is huge...thanks
Great question. What servo saver are you using? I have the stock one that is a bit longer (and sloppier) than the usual aftermarket versions so that improves the servo throw. That is about all I have done to mine the issue with the truck is that those big tires always get in the way when you try to make them turn more.
why did it took so long to find you :):9)
Oh man no idea! Freaking TH-cam....
Great video!!
Thanks Ryan!
Replies would be nice...thanks!..you want Bizz? right?
Sorry I was in China for work. No internet access in Shaanxi.
Ok sorry..i like your designs/work etc. Have you any mods for the monster beetle?
Hi Eddie, don't worry about it man. I hate when people don't reply to me. Yes, I do. I have a rear swing arm brace which solves the warped and broken rear shock mounts as well as allows you to install a larger array of shocks. I have an antenna mount but I don't think that will work for the MB. I will be making new front upper and lower arms in a more flexible plastic vs the stock stuff. More stuff down the line!
I will soon! I have about 10 items on order to test out.
Eddie, I just finished the rear end for the Monster Beetle. Check out episode 35 & 37
Short ball cup =longer rod length 😜👍
Yup!
never ceases to amaze me how much the wheels and tires wobble on the pumpkin and lunchbox i remember as kids we would rip on these 2 trucks joking around about what pieces of shit they were! lol
Hahah, yeah they do that. They are crappy but that's part of the charm.
27:37 Lol you're a funny guy.
Do my best!
Just did my first test run. Now, my god, the Lunchbox actually has steering! lol
Haha! I know...weird....
I got my lunch box when I was 11
That's awesome to hear!
Before videos would have been benificial
I figured anybody who owns this truck is aware of how terrible the front suspension is but yeah I would've been cool
these work great but they are SUPER weak.. Two of them broke from tiny crashes.. Do not buy these if you plan to drive more than 1/3 throttle.
Just fitted this kit on my 'Racebox'
Here you can see it befor the upgrade: aurigarius.blogspot.com/2019/02/meine-racebox-tamiya-lunchbox-im.html
Installing was a breeze. All fitted just fine. Great piece of kit.
Greetings from Germany
I would love to see your car! Send me some pix at amproengineering@gmail.com. I would love to feature you!
Absolute rip off prices. Although it's pretty damn cool. I wouldn't pay that much I am afraid. Plus I will have to pay a customs charge for the uk.
These are 3D printing prices. I do not set them. This is what shapeways charges, not me. Shapeways is based out of the Netherlands so maybe there are no import duties there. I also sell the STL on my mini factory.
Those prices are ridiculous! What a ripoff!
3D printing is not the same as injection molding.
This is one of those videos that gets the thumb down from me, so little content so thinly spaced out and with so much over explanation, just get to the point, intros are useless on TH-cam we've clicked on your channel we know what we're watching we don't need an intro. Just thought I'd stop and give you the feedback
I need to explain a lot since there is a ton of information that needs to be known.
@@AMPROEngineeringjust giving you feedback, there's a lot of waffle and not a lot of content, you're not explaining it to 3-year-olds.
