Just a heads up with that Chevy Tahoe that you bought, aka the Cadillac short wheelbase, the full-time all-wheel drive is based on the borg-warner 4473 transfer case, they like to puke out their seal in the input shaft and contaminate your transmission fluid. If that transmission was replaced at 77,000 miles, the transfer case is likely going bad and needs to be replaced before ruins your new transmission. You generally can't replace the seal because it's part of the bushing and the bushing is pressed into the front half of the transfer case.
@@knurlgnar24 I have a GM all wheel drive cargo van that has the same all-wheel drive setup as these, and the input shaft seal failed on the transfer case, and the input shaft actually ate into the front half of the case. The transmission fluid got contaminated with the shiny bits from the transfer case, because it literally pushed the output shaft seal of the transmission in. It then ruined my transmission.
@@chubbysumo2230 seems about average for a GM vehicle. it wasnt ruined, thats just a feature once your warranty expires. always baffles me, hundreds of thousands of engineers work on these, and youre telling me all of them have no idea how to make it not implode? yah right
@@MrPaxio it's actually a little more complex than that, it's a balancing act between cost and viability. The manufacturer only wants to put in enough cost to get it to last through the warranty. The engineer wants to make it bulletproof. More of a delicate Balancing Act of how much can the engineer tweeze in that the customer will actually pay for. Remember, some manufacturers went overboard on bulletproofing their engines, and it raised the price of the vehicle so much that it pushed out all of the buyers that normally would purchase that vehicle. The Toyota Supra is a very good example of this. The 2jzgte was extremely overbuilt by toyota. It also pushed the cost of the car up Beyond where the average buyer for that type of vehicle would pay, which killed sales. I would say in the case of the Borg Warner 4473 transfer case the parts reuse is really what hurted the most. The outer casing is the same across basically all 2002 to 2015 GM transfer cases, it just depended on what holes were drilled out. The flaw in the design is that the input shaft seal is pressed into the case, and when it fails because it is an interference fit, it usually takes out the front case half with it. This could have been engineered around, they could have improved it, but that would mean re-engineering the castings that are already made, and on top of that that would also mean added cost to the customer that the customer may not want to pay. The obvious compromise is that if they didn't make it through the warranty, GM had to eat the cost. And this happened a lot, that's why it's a very well-known flaw of the transfer case in particular listed here, and the bushing itself is non-replaceable, as you cannot get it out of the Magnesium or aluminum case without damaging the case.
@@chubbysumo2230 the 2jz is over built because its ment to handle 1000 horse power. thats the reason its been over built, cos they knew people would be modifying them. they're not gonna put double turbos on that cadillac. they don't need to over engineer it in that way, but they certainly didnt even make it last under its own weight it needs to pull to be considered a regular vehicle. toyota did it, they build SUVs, why can't GM? let alone when you put two turbos on it.

GMT800 is peak GM truck. The GMT400 is nice but it and everything before were just building up. The GMT900 and later are generic and cheap inside. Not that the GMT800 isn't full of cheap plastic but the 800 feels better. The 800 has some of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. They're thickly padded leather thrones. After that era of GM ended they made all their seats hard with stiff leather or cloth stretched over them. I want to sit in my seat, not on it. The 800 has a modern engine without the 900's active fuel management that would burn out camshafts at 100k. The only thing that can kill them is rust. Also, it was last generation with barn doors, though not available on the Escalade.
@@bwofficial1776 What I like about the gmt800 is that it has the honest simplicity of the gmt400, but with just a hair more capacity, a smidge more comfort and a far superior engine. Once the gmt900 came out I feel they focused more on the features and the appearance of a nicer truck without keeping the durability.
@@Maxzillian I feel the same way. My biggest complaint about the GMT900 was how generic it looked inside and out. We had one and it was just acres of hard black plastic inside. Not that the 800 wasn't full of plastic but the 800 had curves and pockets and different colors. The 400 and 800 plastics feel durable without feeling cheap while the 900 just feels cheap. The 800 is modern enough to do just about anything you need to do with a truck without having to worry about it.

Gmt800 Escalade can't be beat, that 6.0 is a beast that will run forever and that soft comfy boat will always have you coming back!.. Seen many ppl always go back to this model/style because of it. Plus no afm/dod bs.
And articulating headrests on GMC and Cadi. Headrests at the ear height in case a lil old Buick decides to tap your bumper. Swap the air filter and keep driving. All lights in steering wheel controls still illuminate? Do the driver seat controls all work?
The previous owner of that Escalade saw the check engine light come on, traded it in to the dealer, the dealer cleared the codes and put a dirt cheap price tag on it hoping some sucker would snap it up before the OBD2 lit the CEL again. Always plug into the OBD2 and make sure it's run a full diagnostic cycle before buying a used vehicle, so stuff like this doesn't happen.

I'm not a Caddy man at all, but I have had 2 Silverado work trucks which I've loved and ofcourse I recognize a lot of the same elements here, good thing about this gen is cable actuated throttle body, no drive by wire electronic idioacy, and the computer doesn't hover over how you drive either. This is a nice car.
Diff noise is par for the course on Gen2 CTS-Vs. Either GM or the diff maker didn't properly fill them with fluid after assembly and caused premature wear. Diff on my 2012 Vagon moans during slow turns in neighborhoods. And that's even after a dealer drained and refilled it under warranty.
GMT800 is the GOAT platform. And i owned a 200 Series LX. Sold my LX to get an E63, and when looking for my next camping rig, all signs pointed me to a Suburban Z71 04-06. Its hard to get that sort of reliability, easily findable parts, space, creature comforts, and ease of work all in one package.

❤❤❤ Yep, I had that rim fixed instead of replaced. I actually bought aftermarket set of rims in bronze. Didn't like them and went back to the factory rims. The diff has been making that noise on and off since I owned it.
I still miss owning the CTSV Wagon 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Last domestic and front wheel drive car was a 1997 Deville that was a PITA to work on and blew the head gasket at hundred K on the clock even with all the proper maintenance. Turned to BMW and never looked back.
The Wizard is currently ordering a couple of Seamasters at Hoovie's expense lol
Maybe a set of His and Hers Seamasters!
Let's add the money needed for the Wizard to complete his bus-based RV conversion!
That 1949 cadillac looks really good! Cadillac's are great vehicles when maintained. Love my 2004 Cadillac ctsv!!
Of all the cars these guys run through, if I could have my pick of any single car, it would be this beautiful old Caddy! That interior, those fins, the whitewall tires, she's just beautiful!
I need a family car on a budget… looks like I need to look at mid-2000’s Escalades??
Great video as usual, glad you’re a long time advocate for comfortable cars!!
Not dumb. Smart. As you buy these, entertain and teach many, then you can sell it again!
The title is spot on you continue shelling out enough money to buy 2.5 plaids for old ICE trash with the hopes it will be worth more not less going forward and dealing with how bad they are arguable as bad as the lighting.
Hoovie will never cease to amaze me
"What a life we live Wizard" - Delivered like an aged thespian on a final run of a favourite old play on the stage of a classic Broadway theatre: Beautifully poetic and, indeed accurate!
Good luck, Hoovie! 🙂
I wanted to love my 2004 Blue Chip Escalade... but I just HATED IT. the loose recirculating ball steering drives me nuts. White Diamond is stunning tho, and what a gem of an example.
Now you need an 2000 Oldsmobile bravado
Thumbs down for bad luck
You make all of us from Kansas both proud and maybe a little jealous of your hoopty "trouble". Merry Christmas Tyler.
That gen Escalades had the best seats of them all. Literally comfy lazy boys!
These are the kind of car purchases we love! Much more relatable than the high dollar stuff.
10:03 A winning driver Stix with Wix!
Hoovie I would so buy this truck from you I have a family with 3 kids and need some extra space! Keep up the great videos
This makes me miss my Suburban. I had an extended wheel base push button select 4x4 with duallys on the rear, supercharged Vortec 6.2L, dual gas tanks, dual 6"TVs in the driver and pass head rest, 2 DVD players, dual wireless headphones, PS2, XBox 360, Nintendo 64, the very back had a custom inverter so could have a coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge/freezer, computer printer, fold out desk, roll out awning, gravity feed shower, small sink, 22 in Inki wheels with Toyo Proxis. My contracting business required me to do estimates and supervisory work in the field which is why I installed the little office and kitchen. When my kids were out of school for summer they could hang out in or around the suburban all day and nit be bord. I always kept there bikes on top.
I like the way he still has the ml 55 AMG😂😂😂
345 HIgh Output LQ9 6.0L is a darn good engine, sell those often. I am curious about the V rear end issue. I too have a 2010 V in the sedan form, also no moonroof. Mine makes a "rubbing" sound when I make a turn after it sits awhile. Love the 49 caddy!
IN LOVE WITH THE CADILLACS!
A buddy bought one brand new..... loved the power back then. Cadillac had to replace the entire front axle under warranty after we had a big blizzard.... I think has been trouble free ever since.
Only hoovie would call a 70s era engine a “Modern V8”
For the ACDelco oil filters, they changed the gasket designed and they do need to be installed fairly tight to prevent them from leaking
You really can't go wrong with a clean GMT800.
The cts-v wagon is one of my dream cars! I love powerful wagons, usable and fast
When both of your Cadillacs are broken you put your middle finger to caution the wind and buy third
I never get tired of looking at that Caddy either. I'm so jealous.
low key I really really really hope Hoovie keeps the escalade with those rare wheels. that thing is really sweet. and the color is just gorgeous (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I liked Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiptide blahue more. :)
@@hotshtsr20 loved the blue much more but like the short wheel base is amazing
Tyler Soprano..... Love that esky. What a gem, great find.
First !!
Sew?
Nope.
I LOVE MY 2011 CTS COUPE
IT IS ONE OF MY TOP 10 FAVORITE CARS OF ALL TIME !!!
I pull it out and drive it for a few hours around the city on the weekends when the weather is nice about 30 times a year. (if that)
it just sits in the garage 95% of the year lol.
First comment
Sofa king what...🤷
Not even close.
Now your life is complete!
What do you do, sit on Hoovie's Garage all day and click reload? Stalker much?
@@kensuenobu7717 The real "STALKER" is the guy that mentions the Wizards walk in every video and how he wants a video of a continuous loop of him walking around...
That black car is BY FAR the most beautiful car you own and is so cool, Man that is gorgeous
That's why I tell everybody that I know not to buy Cadillac they don't make good cars my grandma's was in the shop more than she had it in her garage
i am still glad that you have the 49 still please never get rid of that beauty
These are the last good years of gm when you could still buy something relatively reliable and AMERICAN. Not just a stupid copy of a sporty european car. Cushy pillowy seats, silky smooth v8, and a smooth ride.
That caddy is a car that would never leave my collection. I like it even more as a semi restomod then original maybe.
Look at 10:02 to the left of the header. Someone hooked the aluminum frame there and pulled reallllly hard forward and ripped the aluminum... then they hammered it back in. Time for a 4 wheel alignment, Hoovie! Frame straightening evidence right there..
The sad thing is that the car DOES have those inserts in the bumper to screw in a tow hook. That's a towing or impound company just being lazy.
Hoovie had mentioned that the front corner was crunched.. I was thinking the frame damage was from hooking it to a frame machine and pulling
3rd reason the leak could stop, it's empty. Great show and nice cars.
Gmt800 Escalade can't be beat, that 6.0 is a beast that will run forever and that soft comfy boat will always have you coming back!..
Seen many ppl always go back to this model/style because of it. Plus no afm/dod bs.
Such a beautiful laugh from the lady and cute baby elephant .. thanks for sharing 😊
The temerity of this guy to be working on his OWN broken Cadillac rather than any of yours - not once, but twice! Outrageous.
Tyler, I had a 2011 CTS wagon. The top of the tail lights warps and the plastic tab that holds it to the body breaks. So it it does not surprise me it broke off in the car wash.
That wagon is gorgeous! One of the best things GM ever did
This show is genius. He may look like he doesn't know what he is doing, but he sure does. He buys the bottom of the barrel of really nice cars, and we watch him bring them to his favorite mechanic to get them fixed. I already can't wait to see what is next.
And the wizard makes videos as well. Pure $$$$$
Grats on the survivor escalade! I have an 05 with same wheels and its a great daily driver.
Hey Tyler, I believe this might be my old friend's truck. He passed away in a motorcycle accident a few years back. If you're ever thinking about selling it, it sure would be cool to roll around with my old buddy's memories. Love your videos!
Wizards business must be little slow so Hoovie just brings him cars to keep the business income rolling. What a guy. Hoovie is so humble by sharing his success.
Liked hearing Arlington. I worked Monday and Fridays on the line while in college. (Lots of sick workers apparently on Monday and Friday) We made the number 1 selling car in America. No, not a Chevy! Olds Cutlass. Made chevys, olds and El Camino. A car came by every 60 seconds. And if you were using any air hose, you knew your limits.
“Warm amber glow of the check engine light” 😂🤣
They say bad things usually happen in 3's or it takes certain individuals 3 times before they’ll learn their lesson.
I'd say you’re learning that lesson in real time in regards to Cadillacs. Fingers crossed it won’t take a 4th.
Nice! I had one I bought from auction then sold it 2 months later identical to this Escalade. I gotta get another one soon 😁
Now that that Escalade is the deal of the year no doubt. A winner ! 👍👍
My daily is a 1993 7.3 IDI NA & for abt the last few months the oil pan gasket had been getting bad. My oil cooler was leaking, so my dad & I resealed that then literally a few months after the oil pan started leaking.
I fix one oil leak then another starts. Because of this I check my oil nearly every time I go to start the truck & keep 2 extra was of oil in it.
Always keep extra oil in an old Diesel that’s not a HEUI injected motor that’ll shut itself off with no oil pressure.
