    When I encounter tough wallpaper, I use a cowbell to scrape the adhesive. The tougher it gets, the more cowbell I use. More cowbell is always the answer. (thanks for the video, it helped me out of a jam)

      @@spencercolgan sometimes of the old paper is solid and to labor intensive to be cost effective to remove we remove any loose bits, sand the seams as often they're wired and will show thru, then a light coat of spackle or joint compound to flush out those areas then prime with kiltz or bullseye 123 or if it's old paper (porous) gardz. Still a fair bit of prep so we always try to remove when possible. I'm sure you do pretty much the same? I also picked up a perforating roller in Germany similar to paper tiger with teeth but much more solid and faster with less wall damage.

    Hi Spencer, I have followed all your videos to help me prepare drywall walls for wallpapering and paper removal. I sealed the drywalls with a high quality Groproc sealer and when wanting to take the paper down again a few days later, because the paste had damaged the ceiling paint, and the low tac masking tape used to protect the wallpaper from the new paint damaged it, I decided to start again.
    The top layer of paper peeled off relatively easily, and the underlying paper pulled off in complete sheets after being sprayed with a sealer remover concentrate. The problem I am faced with is its almost impossible to remove the jelly like adhesive even when sprayed with concentrated adhesive remover and washing up detergent. The scraper, cloth and sponge just spread it around.
    My question is, if I leave it to dry then lightly sand to flatten the wall and then coat it with another layer of sealer, will it be safe to wallpaper of this? Thanks for the great videos.

      @@spencercolgan Hi Spencer, I had to make some decisions, so I left the paste to dry over several days then sanded it and sealed it. I repapered the wall and it’s looking great. I changed to a different paste that I found much easier to wash off. Your preparation videos really helped, when it came to removing the new paper without damaging the drywall. It’s all in the preparation 👍

    Your comment may save my project. Recently have given up my wallpaper removal & paint project. This gives a glimmer of hope. These 38 year old Walls have 3 layers of paper and heavily ridged vinyle wallpaper glued right over original walls which have no sealant. It took 4 days to remove 8 meters of wallpaper. Spencers’ advice helped tons because taking time saved the walls. There are over 30 meters left so plan F seemed the end solution, except covid blocked that idea.😂 What type mask must be worn to conserve lung health while sanding? I will do all plans and include plan C and plan D as you describe, but what do you mean by “ sand and skim seams and “hang over it”? Is this used when hanging new wallpaper only? Can I skim, seal, prime and Paint using your method? Can’t bare the thought of more wallpaper. If you have a different plan for painting, would appreciate your comments. Wishing you all the best and Thanks to Spencer and your comments.

    How do you remove wallpaper if someone put a coat of paint over it?

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is an excellent question. Wallpaper that has paint over it, depending on how old it is, can be easier or more difficult. If it is very old, not only does the paint to make the wallpaper brittle and messier and easier to remove, but the paint can make the wallpaper more difficult if it is over vinyl and many years of paint has covered it. In both cases what I would do is to use a wall perforator which puts hundreds of holes through the wallpaper and then you wet it down in the paint will actually assist you in removing it and why is that? Because the paint will keep the wallpaper from tearing and it will tend to keep the wallpaper together so that you can remove the wallpaper in bigger sheets when you tear it down

      Why don’t you try this? Scrape off anything Loose. Then prime over the wallcovering with kills, oil base. When that dries, go over it one more time with kills, oil base. Then get your spackling knives out and give it a nice skim coat to Dash three times. Then prime your skim coat with Guardz from Zinsser
