I just don't know why nobody else is doing this? Thank so you so much so sharing this. I am working on my wardrobe doors now and I will make those this way. Subed/liked ty
Ive been looking for a carpenter friendly cabinet design good job Its interesting when you look back at vintage cabinets from Frank Lloyd Wright many of them appear to be maple plywood cabinets as well as built in furniture 1950 plastic laminate countertops I like the look and budget friendly
Craftsmanship Wes. Very nice work. Love your shop. Always wanted to use those hinges but could never know where to place them on the doors from the edge.
who knew this could be done and look good. The plywood edge can be a feature. I want redo my kitchen and make my cabinets> There's always small pieces that can be used to make the doors
Wow! Those doors look amazing. Can you offer some advice on finding a good material supplier? Local home centers in my area don't seem to have a very good selection of materials for woodworking. Thanks for the video.
It looks like he used furniture grade 18mm and 8mm birch plywood (not sure what the Imperial equivalents are). It should be available pretty much anywhere in the northern hemisphere at least, even in your local big box stores.
I have a aquarium stand that I am building out of two-by-fours trying to make it look like it was part of the house the front half will have two doors on the bottom frame that swings out doors on the side of the aquarium that swings out and two doors above the aquarium that will go up towards the ceiling on the side of my case work I will have two doors that will swing open my question is what's the best way to mount the framework to the two-by-fours and what type of hinges would I need to hold the upper doors that swing towards the ceiling upright and the doors do not come down on my head when working around the aquarium also on the side of my stand I was thinking about the bottom door having glass so I can see my control board is this something that can be done if all the other doors will be flat panel or do you think that would look out of place
Did you find that you had to fill some of the holes/gaps with the plywood edges? Didn't look like it in the video but I know in my own experience that's usually the case.
Thank you for subscribing, sorry about the late reply. I have not been back to this job to see if there was any warping. I would suspect there wouldn’t be any. Baltic birch plywood is a very stable plywood.
Can you tell me the size plywood panel, is it 3/4 rails and styles with 1/2 panel? Also please confirm if its maple plywood with polyurethane spray. Thanks
Another great video. Man I hate sanding tho. Just one question. You made a jig for the hinge screw holes. Why didn't you add the large hole to the jig?
Why not just make doors out of half inch plywood and trim moulding around edge, it would be more solid and nobody would notice or even care about the difference
@@WesHamstra that's the way basic kitchen cabinet doors are made, but the more fancier ones are just more expensive but it's just harder to make, but since moulding s were invented some older techniques are not necessary, but shows like This old house are paid to peddle fancy gadgets
Just came back from the home depot to buy some poplar to build a couple of doors and the price was $150. I saw this video and can get a sheet of birch for $60 at a cabinet shop and have a nice chunk of scrap wood left over.
@@WesHamstra yes i plan on doing. I have everything cut up and I tried to be lazy and pocket screw the frames together and that was a bad idea lol. Gonna have to whip out the dowelmax and fix up my mess.
OMG! Finally someone who just builds. No hipster beard or ear gauges. No stupid music. THANK YOU!!!
sounds like you are referring to bourbon moth??
Nothing beats a man around the house.
That is by far the best push stick I’ve ever seen lol
Great work, especially using regular plywood rather than expensive solid wood. Compliments!
I love this kind of vid. No talk. Just work. Super relaxing
Thanks. I like making these types of videos. They are easy to edit lol
That was GREAT!!! For a cheap Carpenter like me, that was amazingly budget friendly.!!!
The kids look really interested and helpful, so great
Bravo.. great skills great set up great job.. the 007 of woodworking..
Thanks, I wouldn’t go that far..
The best part was when I saw his children with him. Congrats, looks sharp with the plywood edge look

Very nice! You did make it look very easy. All of your knowledge, experience, and equipment does help.
Thank you! yes, have the right tools help to make it easy.
Big fan of this chanel
Beautiful job.😍
I was really impressed with the timber handle stop you made for the dropsaw bench.😁
Awesome set up ... the right tools make the difference! Nice work, good vid
thanks! Yes they do

Awesome little crew you have there! Good help is hard to find!😄
👨🏽🎨 you are a Maestro and an Artist! 👏
Great project, it looks easy to build and looks cool at the same time WES.💯👌
Thanks. As long as you have a router table and t&g bit you are all set
WOW!! They look great!
I pretty much couldn’t focus once I saw that awesome revolver table saw push 😱
That was a cool build, no talking just getting on with it
Thanks!
Nice job on making the plywood cabinet doors Wes! And nice touch on the sound effects :) Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Thanks!
Your very welcome Wes! Have a great week!😎
If I could give this video a thumbs up each time I watch it I def would. 😂👍👍👍👍
Beautiful doors. You did an awesome job and you make it look easy.
Easy when you have all the nice tools nicely done ✅
Yes that is true. When you have the proper tools for the job, it definitely makes it easier
Nice job and from cheap materials!!! 👏👏👏👋
Baltic birch is not that cheap lol
Great job & nicely executed Wes! 👏👏👍👍😉😉
Thank you!
Very nicely done Wes!!
Thank you!
He is such a professional guy
Thanks!
absolutely love the kids !
Craftsmanship Wes. Very nice work. Love your shop. Always wanted to use those hinges but could never know where to place them on the doors from the edge.
Once you use them you will never go back. The adjustability on them is amazing.
Nice finishing touch wes 💯% 👍🇬🇧.
Thank you!
Love your helpers!
I love them too!
Turned out really nice!
Thanks!
Nice work
Loved the video. Favorite part though is your push stick!
Thanks. You are the first one ever to comment about that.
I've thought it, but never tried it. I'm kinda itchen to go make some now. Great job!!!!
It works great as long as you don’t mind plywood edges.
great video, thank you!
who knew this could be done and look good. The plywood edge can be a feature. I want redo my kitchen and make my cabinets> There's always small pieces that can be used to make the doors
Good job
Any reason you didn't edge band? Just like the look of the Baltic ply layers?
Nice work. Thank you, Do you think I could use 1/2" ply for cabinet face frames?
you probably could if you are concerned about keeping the weight down. 3/4 would be better
What size plywood did you use? Was the out side 3/4" and the inside 1/2" or 1/4"?
The rails and styles were 3/4 and the panel was 1/4

Nice one, Wes :)
Thanks!
Nice. Should last a long time and never distort at all.
That’s the beauty of plywood! Thanks!
Hola muy bueno tu proyecto, cuál es la medida del enchapado o plancha de madera, gracias
Perfect job. What did you do to the edges? Just standing
the edges are just exposes plywood. Baltic birch is 11 ply. It looks really cool. I just left it.
Literally has a personal factory set up for this. 🤷♂️
How much charge per door?
I need a table saw to handle material that size. My jobsite saw always feels sketchy af
What size round-over bit did you use to knock off the sharp edges of the doors?
1/8 round over
Great idea Wes. What is the description /offset on those hinges?
The off set is adjustable from 1/2” - 5/8” they are called a full overlay face frame hinge.
Did you find that you had to fill some of the holes/gaps with the plywood edges? Didn't look like it in the video but I know in my own experience that's usually the case.
I did not. I used Baltic birch plywood. It’s a high grade plywood that doesn’t have any voids in it’s veneer core.
With today’s crappy and expensive wood this is a great option !!
That’s for sure! Also it’s a lot cheaper then solid wood.
Have a close up of the varathane?
Nicely put together video, subscribed!. Have you had any issue with the doors warping or anything?. Even slightly?
Thank you for subscribing, sorry about the late reply. I have not been back to this job to see if there was any warping. I would suspect there wouldn’t be any. Baltic birch plywood is a very stable plywood.

Read the video description
Another great video. Man I hate sanding tho. Just one question. You made a jig for the hinge screw holes. Why didn't you add the large hole to the jig?
Great question.. probably because my little brain doesn’t think that far lol.
@@WesHamstra just an idea. But if you make many doors. It could ensure accuracy. Even your screw hole jig is a great idea.
Nice job!
By the way, where did you get those hinges?
I can’t seem to find them at HomeDepot.
Thanks! I bought them off amazon.
What product was it sprayed with.
Varathane satin finish.
What is a wood window sash?
How wide are your rails and stiles?
I tend to always make the rails and stiles 2” wide
Water based or oil based?
I don’t remember
Baltic Birch sure can be pretty.
I like it.
What is the tickness of door insert?
1/4”
Compared t massive oak/ birch/ and others I think is ok😂
Table saw, planer, router, mitre saw…and not a single spot of tear out?
That’s correct
What took me so long??
Nice work! You could easily hide the plywood (if you wanted) by edge banding the outside and adding a trim piece to the inside.
Why not just make doors out of half inch plywood and trim moulding around edge, it would be more solid and nobody would notice or even care about the difference
Never thought of that. That would be an easier way.

You can do nothing wrong!!
Yes I can. I have done plenty wrong in the past
Talk!
frist
Frist? Or first
Yes, nice project, but I have to say, enough of the mime videos in TH-cam woodworking. We learn so much when we chat. Thanks for the video though.
Just came back from the home depot to buy some poplar to build a couple of doors and the price was $150. I saw this video and can get a sheet of birch for $60 at a cabinet shop and have a nice chunk of scrap wood left over.
You could take it one step further and edge banding the edges so it does look like plywood
@@WesHamstra yes i plan on doing. I have everything cut up and I tried to be lazy and pocket screw the frames together and that was a bad idea lol. Gonna have to whip out the dowelmax and fix up my mess.
