    I swap cranks all the time in these honda mowers. For my shop to do it about 300-350ish. The cranks are pretty cheap and i do the lower oil seal and thrust washer on all of them. Worth it in my opinion if the rest of the mower is in good shape. I can do one in about 2 hrs from start to finish

      I just got another one in yesterday with a bent crank. Customer decided not to fix it. I though the lawnmower was going to take off when I started it :-)

      For that much, you can buy a new engine.

      @metoon3092 why?? They are great engines.. the reason the crank gets bent is from hitting a hard object while mowing. It's all user error it jas nothing to do with the engine one bit. They are ceasing production because of stupid emissions standards are getting too strict and it's too much work to restrict their engines even more just to meet the requirements so they just pulled the plug. I work one all types of small engines on the daily basis and the Hondas are the best as long as you take care of it.

      @@Bassin07Siwell... the engine it's self is by design quite nice but such a weak crank and horrible one piece blade plates rather than a decent blade disk with detachable blades, its a recipe for disaster, at least with the proper old blade disk and swivel blades when you hit something the blades can flick out of the way. These modern mowers with the flat one piece blade are just asking for trouble there's just no margin for error, you should be able to hit the od obstacle without completely destroying your mower lol. I mean I have mowers here from the 80s their cranks have had more hits than elvis and they still run perfect but my 2 year old Honda powered mower is junk already because I hit a rock with it just once, same rock that my 80s mower has hit 200 times. Just typical of modern rubbish

    Great video, I would recommend only tilting the mower with the carb and air cleaner facing up.

    I have tried everything to get the blade mount plate off. It won't budge. Even tried a gear puller

    The piece that you connect the the blade too…is that separate from the crank shaft on all mowers? Because I don’t think my crank shaft is bent just the piece that you screw the blade into is bent

    • @small_engine_repair
      @small_engine_repair  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it is separate. I just had one the other day where the adapter and blade were bent but the crank was good. Customer got lucky!!

    • @joegabriel6001
      @joegabriel6001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for response. I took off the blade adapter today. My crank shaft has a very minimal bend to it ..I think 😅

    Hi
    How can i fix my mower if the crankshaft is bent????
    It is possible to fix it ,and to not replace the crankshaft??
    My serial mower is HRR216
    THANK YOU

      I have never attempted to “un bend” one. I would think you would need some major machine shop equipment to attempt it.

    How did you open that transmission belt holder? I cant take it off! Thanks.

    • @small_engine_repair
      @small_engine_repair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remove the blade. Remove the bolt holding the blade adapter on. Then remove the two bolts that hold the belt guard on. Impact gun will make it easier.

    • @small_engine_repair
      @small_engine_repair  ปีที่แล้ว

      O wait, are you referring to the piece that covers the belt from the engine to the transmission? Each model is different. On this one that plastic does not come off. You need to rotate the transmission so you can remove the belt from the pulley on the transmission and then feed the belt through. It is a pain!!

    • @Eashan0007
      @Eashan0007 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one part you holding at 03.04min. The part wher the belt sits on. Idk for some reason its just not coming off on my mower. I have a HRN216VKA. Just 2 months old 😭

    • @small_engine_repair
      @small_engine_repair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did the key way already come out on yours? If not, maybe it is sheared and that is what is keeping it on the shaft. Keep wiggling it back and forth. You could also try tapping it with a rubber mallet while wiggling it to help it free.

    • @Eashan0007
      @Eashan0007 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yah the key came out. Probably its not coming out because the shaft is bent? Ill give it another go but thank you so much for your response 😊

      I’ve seen videos where people just bend the shaft back to near straight. Not sure how safe that is as the shaft will be weakened. The thought of a mower blade coming free spinning at about 90 mph so close to your feet/legs makes me think it’s smarter to just buy a new mower.
      Do you think it’s a bad idea to straighten the shaft by bending it?

    Tech to tech, let me give you a little help here. First of all, never flip any 4 stroke engine to have the carburettor/air filter facing down, it will leak gasoline from the reservoir and oil from the sump will find way to conterminate the carb and clog the air filter. For bent crankshafts, I link you directly to a good video. Have a further look to Steve´s other videos, he makes content that likely will help you out a lot. th-cam.com/video/w2Ro9GmEyOE/w-d-xo.html
