Love this video. I grew up in Omaha, graduated from South in '69. Came back after the Navy, stayed til '84. My home town will always be home. My grandmother worked at The Castle, The Hill, and The Blackstone. Did you know that the Reuben sandwich was created by a chef at the Blackstone in 1936 ? I miss you, big O.
I love this so much, I grew up in Omaha and this video is like snapshots from the first 25 years of my life, so many wonderful memories! Thank you!!!❤❤❤
My hometown from 1952 tom 1960, I remember riding the bus to downtown Omaha so my mom could shop at the Brandeis dept store. Also remember going to the movies at the Orpheum , The Beacon and the Skyview Drive-in.
Thank you! This brought back a lot of wonderful memories of living in Omaha from 1964 until '68. It was such a different time then. I remember riding our bikes up to Benson to the hobby store, taking the bus downtown to shop at Brandeis, Creighton basketball games at the Civic Auditorium, eating the delicious chocolate pie at Bishop's, and more. Thanks again!
Scored my first goal at Aksarben in 1970. Grew up 2 blocks away. Shavers. Rexall. Petrows. Tropics. One Eyed Jack's. The Kellly Bowl. The Rose Bowl. Sortinos. Broncos. Westside billiards. Crossroads. Kings. Etc.
my grandfather, Sam DiMauro owned the land they built the center shopping center on, I remember him giving some of the money from it to his 9 kids he also owned a parcel of ground where they built the crossroads mall
My Grandpa raced horses there and actually won a few. Ridden by Fred Ecoffey. Luckily in 1975 he and 3 of his friends had just left the track and were on their way back here before the tornado went down 72nd St. towards the end of the races.
Yep. That's the Big O. I was wondering if you would include Bishop's Cafeteria and you did. For a young kid that was the maximum possible Sunday morning breakfast treat. We had a lot of mouths to feed in our family so I didn't get to go that often but it was a thrill I'll never forget. I'm 74 now and live in South America but I'll always be a kid from Omaha.
In 2011, Rosenblatt Stadium was replaced by TD Ameritrade Park and the College World Series has been held there ever since; plus the Creighton Blue Jays play their baseball games there, as well. You also mention Eppley Airfield; in recent years, the city of Omaha has talked about possible expansion of the airport to allow more airlines to start flying into and out of Eppley Airfield, and even go so far as to make it a hub for at least one of the airlines that fly in and out. Currently, as you probably know, only eight airlines fly out of Eppley Airfield: United, Frontier, Southwest, Delta, American, Alaska, and two charter airlines called National (not to be confused with the former National Airlines that operated between 1934-1980, then was absorbed by Pan Am at the end of 1980-start of 1981) and Allegent.
Omaha's elected leadership has a "tear it all down" mindset that continues to this day. The cancerous expansion of UNMC has spread so aggressively that 10 homes, all in the so-called "Blackstone District" and all on the National Historical Register, are next in line for demolition. While progress is never perfect, there's a blatant recklessness to it all that is indefensible. Thank you for posting these wonderful photos. The tunes are also great.
I remember staying in a hotel in omaha in the 90s where the pool was in the middle and the hotel rooms were all around it. It was torn down in the 90s i can't remember what it was called
I am looking for anyone that remembers a hotel by the name of the Milner Motel. Prob from tge 50s or 60s. I remember it was not far from channel 3 . My aunt and uncle used to manage it.
at least omaha didnt destroy the city they didnt fall for that stupid urban renewal which destroyed most cities so the city officials and developer could get rich at our expense ,council bluffs had corrupt fools that got rich but destroyed the city
My hometown, and very proud.
Delightful video. Wish you were still making them. Well done. Thank you.

When I was 6 years old the western boundary of the Omaha city limits was 42nd street. Now look at it!

I remember going to see Santa Claus on the 8th floor at Brandeis in the late 1950's.
Hello
That entire floor was spectacular!!!
Dangggggg
Of course, this such a moving video will not leave different those who lived in that era of carefree Omaha!
