This is my husband’s TH-cam account. I lost him 2 weeks ago and this was our song. It makes my heart sad as I remember him. Our love was Devine. We gave thanks and prayed. This song takes away my sadness. He eased my troubles that’s what he did. Prayers to all who’ve lost loved ones.

This song is the most strong hug inducing song for my wife and I. Often times, the hugs lasted longer than the music. We first heard it early in our marriage. We almost made it to our 50th anniversary. She died of cancer on March 3, 2024.
I appreciate that many others are aware that it was sung as a song of Praise to Jesus by Van Morrison. I don't doubt that Jesus would mind sharing it with my wife.
I miss her so very much, but can never find the words that adequately tell how much.

Fair enough but the songwriter's original intention is more valuable to me. Id rather hear Van singing this over Rod Stewart. Not just because Van wrote it, but it is about his relationship with God. Whereas Rod sang it thinking about Rachel Hunter. That's why I can't take Rod's version seriously

Well, it certainly matters to Van who wrote it to God. In case you think I'm putting my beliefs on my old friend (I've known him since I was a small child), I'm not. Van Morrison was brought up in Christian home &, as he would say, "After a bit of a wander, I came home!"😊.

I understand your viewpoints. But music for me is not so literal. As the listener I interpret songs for me, what worlds, images, feelings they bring me. I am a participant in it. What is Van singing about in “Into The Mystic?” That iconic, lovely Morrison song takes me to another world. That is a trademark of music and lyrics done well.
Since we first met at the age of sixteen, I have been with the same wonderful girl who has helped me through all of my challenges. After fifty-two years of marriage, I've come to the realization that the good Lord above has blessed me beyond measure with her unwavering love, children, and grandchildren. Women are truly exceptional; they make the best companions. The best things are simple! A man has struck it lucky when he discovers a good woman. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of her love.

When my husband was in the late cancer stages before entering palliative care, he could hardly stand, I would take him down to our family room, & we would put on the last cd that van made and ,I would hold my husband tight,& safe, we would dance to a few songs , my husband would smile and dance, it gave him a sense of stamina, and a smile, I'll always remember, it just was totally amazing how this man,Van Morrison could give a man an energy through his music, I cry just thinking about happy it made a dying man,happy for a few moments, rest in peace Larry, 🙏, I'll always play, "Someone like you" for you and me and picture us dancing, love you always! ❤😊❤

When we talked and fixed whatever was wrong, this song was playing. It became "our song". It was our choice for the first dance at our wedding and it saw regular play in our homes over the years.
