  • In this video I am taking the concept of a Master Board and creating it in book form using a catalogue. I have made a few, so some I will use as an Art Journal, and others I will cut up as you would a master board! Happy Creating!

I really love this idea of a master board journal made of old magazines! I must admit, I’ve recycled magazines that I didn’t think I could use for junk journaling and now I’m kicking myself for not thinking of this idea! I also love how you emphasized that this doesn’t need to be finished in one sitting. I get so caught up in finishing that it sometimes takes the joy out of creating. Thank you Natasha!

Nathasa, you always have something wonderful to teach us for recycling all kind of magazines that arrives almost every day by mail and usually go in to the trash. And all of them are magnificently beautiful and practical to use as you say, for journaling, or drawing, even for saving those ideas that we have and wanted to put in one place for when we need it. I love all your wonderful ideas. You're more clever than any magician, you always have something new, simple, unique and very useful up your sleeve. Thank you very, very much for sharing!!!

How fun! What a fun way to use up scraps! Love all the ideas you shared - as an art journal, to clip in and save things made and to cut up as a master board. I think it would be a fun treasure book for those last bits of favorite papers, laces, trims and images…and to keep “samples” of the beautiful things I learned to make from your videos!❤ Thank you! I’m looking at catalogs and brochures in a new way! 😉

I use this as I have scraps I will grab it and open to a page and glue some paper, put it aside and when I come to a creative block or just have a few minutes I glue something else down. It makes it my art/ practice anything book. So It doesn't matter. Its all about playing and seeing what works.

  • @thaliahelene

This is a great idea! I like how you have used the existing magazine as a base. Yet the contents don't matter because you are collaging over. One could just use other paper... I have a booklet stapler so could make my own. I also might cut down the size of the sheets to have a more interesting booklet with square or golden-mean size leaves. I love your more vintage style rather than some "cute" scrap book styles I have seen out there. To each his/her own, but find yours very attractive. I just found your channel a couple of days ago. My mother was a fine bookbinder, but she was only so good at it. I wish she had found the relaxed style of modern art book collaging before she passed away. She might really have enjoyed this. How you would have loved her scraps!

Well, I left a lot of pages in my catalogue, but I'm almost towards the end - 4 more to go!! And you know what? The pace doesn't matter. ❤️ I'm so delighted for this video! I have been making similar books intuitively as I watch other techniques. I started last summer and did multi page spreads with base pages of an old school year book. I used seasonally themed colors, nature images, and collected fairy art. I added all sorts of pockets, tuck spots, flips,(I love layering flips! ) and the bits of extra bling that I have learned from watching all of your videos. I have three completed, and one that is a work in progress that I pass back and forth with my daughter. We take turns adding new art, and I love that we can share the process and have something to gift to her when it's completed that we made together. Thank you for your bounty of wonderful ideas! ❣️

This was the perfect video to stumble across today - I just went through all my old magazines, got out what I could use & tossed the dregs. But, I get brochures from travel places, & it's really good quality paper. The central spread of one is a lovely mostly blank spread with a stretched out world map. The cover is colourful so I knew I could use the whole thing to make a journal. Your idea is exactly what I can do!

Hello there, I really love this project a lot, it's a great idea to use it as storage of your favorite things as in art journal, definitely will do it, just need to find the right magazine. Thank you Natasha.

Yes! I am inspired😊 Started getting into mixed media a short while ago and really enjoy it. Also want to start an art journal. This "board" would be great for cutting up for collage cards! 😊 Thank you for teaching!🤗 Going to send to my friend!

Oh, I love this idea. I recently cleaned out a stash of travel brochures and maps from a time when a friend visited me here in Australia from UK. I discovered we had duplicates of some things and set them aside to see if they'd be useful for snipping. I realised a couple will be perfect to make into journals so will keep them aside especially.

Her explanations are VERY good and she's one of my favorite youtubers. If you've just discovered her channel then you've got a treat in store! While you're waiting for her next video to come out you can go watch her old videos. Some of my favorites are when she made the paper flowers (not the pleated ones - the ones where she cuts out individual petals) and the envelope junk journal. I need to watch the one with the pleated flowers again during the day with some good quality paper strips at hand. When I watched it the first time it was late at night and I didn't have the right materials to follow along and my flowers were a miserable fail - which is really unusual because she does such good tutorials. I'm getting my craft closet put together now and my mouth is watering because I can't wait to get crafting. Right now all of my craft supplies are scattered hither and yon. It will be so nice to have a whole little space just for crafting! Welcome to junk journaling! I know you will have a fun time! There are lots of excellent JJ channels on YT. Be sure to check out Camellia Crafts Designs. (I love her accent.) Nik the Booksmith is great fun too. Happy crafting!
